Introduction:

Water is one of the most important need of living things. It is second only to the air we
breathe. Water is a molecule that consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom. When
these atoms are heated to a high temperature, they join to form water. The scientific way to write
this molecule is "H2O."

Water is very important for life. We need water to drink, to wash our hands, to cook, to
water plants and many other things. Without water, the plants would die and people and animals
would go thirsty.

Our drinking water today, far from being pure, contains some two hundred deadly
commercial chemicals. Add to that bacteria, viruses, inorganic minerals (making the water hard)
and you have a chemical cocktail that is unsuitable (if not deadly) for human consumption.

In Davao City, our water has been recognized as one of those considered as potable and
safest to drink. Through the Davao City Water District, our potable tap water has been pumped
from Tamugan River. Before it reaches our home, this water that undergoes treatment and one of
which is chlorination. But how much chlorine has been added in our tap water?

The Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004 defines water quality as the characteristics of
water that define its use and measured in terms of physical, chemical, biological, bacteriological,
or radiological characteristics by which the acceptability of water is evaluated, to classify water
resources and their beneficial use.

A number of ambient standards for measuring water quality have been formulated by the
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). DAO 34, issued in 1990, includes
classifications for both surface and coastal water. For each classification, current beneficial use
(e.g., drinking water, etc.) is given. It also contains water quality criteria for each class appropriate
to the designated beneficial use.

According to the World Health Organization guidelines for drinking-water quality,

chlorine is present in most disinfected drinking-water at concentrations of 0.2–1 mg/liter. This
level has been maintained and provided by our local water district to every household in Davao
City.

But what happens when out treated water is heated. Will it still be safe to drink? This study
will determine if our tap water, heated for whatever reason, is safe or not, for human consumption.
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

This study focuses on the effects of tap water provided by the local water district, heated for
whatever purpose and used by families/persons in Davao City, and provided to other living
things specifically to plants. This study seeks to answer to the following questions:

1. What are the effects of post re-heated tap water when utilized by living plants?

2. Does re-heated tap water, when provided to plants, affect its growth?

Materials needed:

 1 pack of mongo seeds  3 equal-sized receptacle

 Cotton  3 clean 500ml bottles

Procedure:

1. Prepare 3 equal proportions of Tap Water.

2. In the first bottle, add tap water.
3. In the second bottle, add a cooled tap water (heated once)
4. In the third bottle, add another cooled tap water (re-heated more than once).
5. Prepare the receptacles for the mongo seeds.
6. Put equal amount of cotton in the three receptacles.
7. Place equal number of mongo seeds in each receptacle.
8. Add water in each receptacle as follows:
a. Unheated tap water in receptacle 1.
b. Cooled tap water (heated once) in receptacle 2.
c. Cooled tap water (heated more than once) in receptacle 3.
9. Place the three prepared receptacles with the seeds in an area equally receiving sunlight
and not exposed to rain.
10. Daily add water on the receptacles at the same time using the prepared water intended for
each receptacle.
11. Observe the plants for its daily growth.
12. Record observations.
