1. The greatest and the least resultant of two forces are respectively 11 N and 3 N.

Find the
magnitude of the two forces.
Ans-Let P and Q are two forces , according to question
Greatest P + Q = 11 …………………..(1)
Least P - Q =3 …………………….(2)
Adding 1 and 2 we get 2P =14 therefore P=7
Substituting value of P in 1 we get Q = 4
2. The resultant of two equal forces P including an angle α is P. Find α.
Ans-
We know resultant R2= P2+Q2 +2PQ cos 𝛼
Here two forces are equal also resultant
P=Q=R=P (let)
P2= P2+P2 +2P.P cos 𝛼
P2= 2P2+ 2P2 cos 𝛼
P2= P2(1+ +2 cos 𝛼)
1
cos 𝛼= -2 therefore 𝛼 =1200
