Activity Passage I:

A Travel Blog Exploring the Cultural

Differences between London and Denver
Passage Proposal
March 12, 2015
I. Introduction
Since a very young age, I’ve wanted to travel to London, United Kingdom and finally,
this year I am getting the chance to do so through a theatre based school trip. I also have been
fascinated with video blogs and online blogs the past four years of my life and some of my
family members have past experience in travel blogging. I have never really understood the art of
blogging, which is why I think keeping one during my travels with really help me learn a lot and
is why I am interested in this topic.
During my spring break trip to London, United Kingdom, I will create, post, update, and
maintain an online blog. On this blog, I will post daily comparisons and observations between
London and Denver, as well as what I did each day. Each post will be related to how Denver and
London culture and life are compared. I will compare the two places though analyzing the
universals of culture including arts, play, and recreation and social control. From my analysis, I
will address the following questions; How is leisure time viewed and spent? What is
entertainment? What are the rules in a culture? What is valued in a society? What values are
reflected in the system of social control?
During my Passage, I will be advocating for the importance of cultural awareness and an
interactive, international learning experience. This Passage will be done while I am in another
country that is completely different than Denver and the United States. Because the trip is theme
based, I will be exploring a different culture, the theatrical life in London.
This Passage will reach the GPS Global Domains of Investigate the World and
Communicate Ideas. From traveling to another country and experiencing their culture and ways
of life, I will be Investigating the World. Through my online blog and communicating with my
community in Denver and the United States from the United Kingdom, I will be communicating
my own and other’s ideas.
My greatest obstacle will being able to both maintain my blog, and to participate in the
planned activities of the trip. Another obstacle I will encounter is the various technical
difficulties including finding free and readily available wifi, the ability to upload images and
videos, and being able to charge my devices.
