DAVIE is a specialized software tool designed for PACCAR MX Engine service work. The navigation steps used
for DAVIE are different than other applications and users should be sure to read the enclosed instructions.
To return to a previous screen, click the return arrow on the lower left. Do not use your browser back button.
Also, some actions require an “enter” keystroke – and that is done by clicking on the forward arrow, on the
lower right, that looks like a “play” button. This will move you to the next screen. If the instructions tell you to,
click the select arrow, at the lower right. It looks like a backward capital L.

Where to Find Updates for DAVIE on DealerNet
Before you start up DAVIE for the first time, you’ll need to check for updates and download and install them.
Also, this procedure must be done at regular intervals. Monitor DealerNet for newly released Application file
weekly; the PRS file should be updated every 3 months.
For download integrity and speed, it is recommended that a hard wire connection instead of wireless connection
be used to retrieve PRS downloads and other DAVIE updates. The downloaded file should then be transferred to a
portable memory device (such as a thumb drive) for updating all of the computers on which DAVIE is installed. On
a typical system, none of these downloads should take more than 40 minutes. If the download takes more than 90
minutes, dealers should contact the PACCAR Dealer Services Group to determine how download speed can be
improved.

Updating Application Files

To update the Application files, you do not open up DAVIE until the file is downloaded and unzipped.
NOTE: A file with the extension .zip is a file that is compressed so it can be transmitted more quickly over the Internet.
Unzipping a file is a procedure that Windows XP will do automatically when you activate the unzip command.
Because of the size of the Application and PRS files, they are always sent in .zip format and must be unzipped, or
extracted, before they can be installed. Instructions for managing zip files are on pages 9-10.

Updating PRS Files
PRS stands for Parts Rapido Subset. PRS files contain all the specifications and parameters of every vehicle powered
by a PACCAR MX engine. The PRS file is a database of vehicle configurations.
There are two types of PRS files:
• One is a large batch file which is the entire database. As new trucks are manufactured, every one with the
MX engine is entered into this database. The database is then updated and uploaded to DealerNet at periodic
intervals. This file is like a master file and grows with time as new information is entered – which is why you have
to update DAVIE regularly. With regular updates, your shop’s version of DAVIE will have all available information
about all the vehicles, the same as PACCAR and all other dealerships in the system.
• The individual PRS file. These are for trucks that have been manufactured since the most recent batch PRS.
An individual vehicle PRS file is accessed for update by going to the Parts tab (see pages 25-34) in DealerNet.

Updating Batch PRS Files

While the batch file contains data about all MX powered trucks, you also will need to update PRS files on individual
vehicles. It is possible that you can have a vehicle in your shop that is not in the large PRS batch file.
To update the large batch PRS file, go to DealerNet and click on the Service (1) tab.
Click on Diagnostic Tools (2) in the list on the left side, which will show you links to DAVIE Administration, DAVIE Tips
and ESA Administration.

To update your batch PRS files, you follow the same basic procedure used for Application updates. Make a note of the
PRS version number (0291). First, click on the DAVIE Parts Rapido Subset (PRS) (4) link.

Log files contain miscellaneous data like fault codes,
circumstances (freeze frame data) when the fault
occurred, software numbers and so on.
. The contents of the log file depend on the activities
that are performed by the technician during the DAVIE
session (entering and closing a direct test). The contents
of the menus, such as error information, ECU information,
functions tests, etc., that are entered during a DAVIE
session are written to the log file.
These log files can be analyzed, which is helpful in

The log file should now appear as a pdf file. If it

performance tests, refer to the Performance Test Guide
on page 101.

Example: Automated Cylinder

Performance Test
As an example, let’s go through the Automated Cylinder
Performance test. This test can only be used for
informational purposes and only provides information
about the mutual cylinders’ performance, not the total
engine state. During the test, the engine speed is
increased six times from engine idle speed. During each
of these accelerations one of the injectors is cut off.
DAVIE measures the acceleration time six times. The
acceleration time is the time needed for a fixed amount
of crankshaft revolutions during the accelerations. The
acceleration time is displayed on the DAVIE screen in
percentages. The cylinder with the longest acceleration

, time is displayed as 100%. The automated cylinder

performance test can detect a problem with the fuel
supply of a certain cylinder, but only if that cylinder
performs significantly worse than the others and the
compression test is OK for that cylinder.
Click to highlight Automated Cylinder Performance test,
then click the forward  arrow key.
>

After a performance test has been selected, DAVIE will

read the ECU to determine if there are errors that would
inhibit running the test. In this example, DAVIE indicates
that no relevant errors were found, so you can click
Continue to proceed.

In the next screen, DAVIE will evaluate the engine
system to determine if conditions are correct. In
this example, you are alerted, via a message

Comparing the required conditions to the results
displayed, note in this example that the engine
speed is too high.

After reducing the engine speed to the required

range you will receive a message from DAVIE that
test conditions are correct, you may now continue

For this and all performance testing procedures,

follow any on-screen commands. In the automated
cylinder performance test, DAVIE first instructs
you to hold the accelerator pedal to the floor until
