SPEAKING IN THE IELTS TEST (Part 1)

 Speaking is a part of the IELST test.

 In general, the IELTS Speaking test is a 10-


15 minute interview or conversation between
a candidate and an examiner.

 The Speaking test is the final section of the


IELTS Test, after the IELTS Writing section.

 At the end of the IELST Writing section of the


IELST test, you will be given a form to fill in.

 This form requires some basic information


about you, your career, your study plans and
your hobbies.

 The aim of this form is to give the examiner


some information to provide topics to ask
about in the interview.

 The IELST Speaking test has 5 phases:


1. Introduction. The examiner and candidate
introduce themselves. The candidate is
made to feel comfortable and encouraged
to talk briefly about his or her life, home,
work and interests.
2. Extended discourse. The candidate is
encouraged to speak at length about some
familiar topic, which is either of general
interest or of relevance to his or her culture,
place of living, or country of origin. This
stage involves explanation, description or
narration.

3. Ehcitatian. The candidate is given a task
card with some information on it and is
encouraged to take the initiative by asking
questions ei-ther to elicit information or to
solve a problem.

 The IELST Speaking test has 5 phases:


Example form:
Describe your holidays
1) Where do you go for the holidays and how long do them last?
2) Who do you go with?
3) Talk about any interesting thins happening during your holidays
Follow-up:
What do the Australian people mostly do in their leisure time?
What's the difference between holidays today and 5 years ago
and the reasons for the change?
Do you think people will spend more time on leisure or working
in the future?

 The IELST Speaking test has 5 phases:


4. Speculation and attitudes. The candidate is
encouraged to talk about future plans and
the proposed course of study. Alternatively,
the examiner may choose to return to a
topic raised earlier.
5. Conclusion. The interview is concluded.

Yes, it's a college.

Can you describe a little bit about your room or the college?
We have 8.............................. so it's good because if you stay in this
building you create 9......................, camaraderie between the people that
stay in the same floor, the same building and then we have like
10................................., like we have 11................ or basketball
competitions and all that stuff, so it's good.

That's the thing I like about Adelaide, you know, 12.................. by all your
parklands. That's one of the interesting 13........... that I have liked about
Adelaide.

And the people are 14..................., interesting. New culture, new language.
Although I have studied English before, but 15............... of English that you
use is totally different, you know, the 16.................. Australian version of
17.............. you know, 18................, laid back. So you live and learn. You
start saying things like 19.................. instead of 'very good' so you try and
20.................. the culture, and that's really good.
