This homework assignment involves analyzing a gear reduction unit with a countershaft. Students are asked to:
1) Determine the output force on gear B and bearing reaction forces.
2) Draw shear force and bending moment diagrams for the shaft.
3) Calculate bending and torsional shear stresses at the point of maximum bending.
4) Determine shaft diameters and select bearings to support the shaft based on load and life requirements.
5) Specify a bearing from an online catalog that meets the shaft diameter and load rating.

Please solve the following problem. Show all the procedure. A gear reduction unit uses the countershaft shown in the figure below. Gear A receives power from another gear with the transmitted force FA applied at the 20o pressure angle as shown. The power is transmitted through the shaft and delivered through gear B through a transmitted force FB at the pressure angle shown. a) Determine the force FB, assuming the shaft is running at constant speed. b) Find the magnitudes of the bearing reaction forces, assuming the bearings act as simple supports. c) Draw shear-force and bending moment diagrams for the shaft. If needed, make one set for the horizontal plane and another set for the vertical plane. d) At the point of maximum bending moment, determine the bending stress and the torsional shear stress. e) Determine the main dimensions of the shaft (i.e., diameter at the point of maximum bending moment and in the supports O an C. f) Obtain the basic load rating (CR) for the bearings to be used in supports O and C. The shaft rotates at 1200 rpm and the desired bearing life is 15000 h with a 95% reliability. Use an application factor of 1.2. g) Use an online bearing catalog to find a specific bearing that satisfies both the needed basic load rating and the diameter of the shaft. Indicate the dimension (length) of the shaft in the section the bearing is expected to be mounted.
