Skills Audit

My name is Darren Calderon I am a student of the Southampton Solent University and

seeking to get my BSc (Hons) degree in International Management.
I had the opportunity to receive multiple practical experience due to the fact that I started
working approximately 9 years ago and have been working since in serval companies as
well as living in multiple countries, this not only gave me strong intercultural competencies
and language skills but also awareness on my key strengths and I gained a variety of
different practical skills which was complimented by the theoretical know how I learned in my
time studying enabling a deep synergy as a basis for my current Employability.
The following list will give an overview of some of my key employment skills supported by
examples of my prior work experience and education gained globally.

Complex Problem Solving

Facility of experience: Hilton Hotel (Düsseldorf, Germany)
Situation: The Hilton Hotel regularly awaits celebrities from all around the world which have
to be served professionally and could otherwise have a loss of reputation or of important
customers as an outcome.
In connection to this I have for example served Germanys best female football players and
other celebrities who regularly demanded special offers it was therefore a daily routine to
overcome complex issues which not only led me to increase my confidence with key
customers but solving these complex problems independently.

People Management
Facility of experience: Swiss Life Group (HORBACH Cologne, Germany)
Situation: The Swiss life Group is one of Europe’s leading financial solutions providers who
therefore provides a high quality of individual customer service.
During my time working there it was not only important to acquire new customers and
maintain them but also to coordinate colleagues by organizing meetings which displays an
external people management with customers as well as an internal Management with
employees.

Judgement and Decision making

Facility of experience: Saluna Watersports (Gros-Islet, St.Lucia)
Situation: Saluna Watersports is the most successful privately owned water sports business
in St. Lucia operating daily with numerous visitors who are responsible for a majority of the
country’s gross domestic product.
Since I have had the opportunity to manage this business for a limited time it became the
usual for me to make judgements and often even quick decisions for the business, its
employees and customers which led me on having judgement and decision making as one
of my key employment skills.

Critical Thinking
Facility of experience: Hilton Hotel (Cologne, Germany)
Situation: It was prior mentioned that the Hilton Hotel deals with customers with a high
buying power it is also relevant to mention the quantity of the customers visiting this hotel in
each city in Germany which is likely to be high.
Besides studying I was working in the Hilton Hotel Cologne especially in a hotel it is very
common that customers are trying to minimize their expenses by for example complaints of
fictional mistakes in order to receive a compensation.
Regarding the high quantity of customers visiting this Hotel and the likelihood of contrived
problems and mistakes it was crucial to pay attention to their truth and carry out each
conversation sensitively in order to not only secure the resources of the company but also to
show sensitiveness and easiness in converse with the customers.

Emotional Intelligence
Facility of experience: Solent University (Southampton, England)
Situation: During my time in University I again became aware on how important it is looking
beyond people’s surface being a course representative did show me the significance of
reflecting on the words and behaviours of my fellow students in order to support us as a
group which has to be represented and therefore helped me further developing my
Emotional Intelligence as one of my key skills of employment.
