1. Private Networks
l Private networks, jaringan yg digunakan secara khusus oleh
organisasi tunggal, institusi, atau bisnis tertentu à
memberikan komunikasi khusus untuk keamanan dan
keandalan. Mudah dan cepat dalam implementasi, dan
konfigurasi yg dipakai bisa Point-to-Point or Point-to-
Multipoint.
2. Public Networks
l Resource diakses dan terbagi pada user yg berbeda.
Jaringan publik tetap perlu bersifat cost effective, sekalipun

Possibilities of Interworking
Network
VoIP
MGW
GMSC
BSC
l An additional network
l AAA as a client of HLR
l MGW transform the VoIP from packet domain to
MSC circuit domain
l GSM and WiMAX are independent
l Less impact
l GSM is the trunking for WiMAX to PSTN
l One bill for two networks
l No roaming, no handover
l IMS is a better solution.
Modul 3 - Introduction to WiMAX Part II 31
GPRS Solution
l Loose coupling
l Same billing or authentication system for one
uniform bill
l Close coupling
l WiMAX BS integrates to GPRS PS
l Access GW is needed for SGSN interface, difficult to
implement
l GPRS integrates to WiMAX CN
l Change and upgrade the protocols stack
l Cost is very high since two far different protocols
WCDMA WiMAX
l Powerful services l Wireless data access
support l Services are under
l Voice & Data development
l Video Telephone l City coverage
l Seamless handover
l Uniform authentication and billing
l Uniform subscriber management
l Fully utilize WCDMA resources to promote
new services
l Easy upgrade network structure
l Comply to the technique development
tendency
l Smooth evolution to All-IP
l Inter-work with PS
l No services halt or
packets lost
IWU:
Inter-Working Unit
l Tight coupling
l Amend the protocols in a large scale
l High cost and risk
l WiMAX as access part of WCDMA
l In charge of RNS
l WCDMA RNC and WiMAX ASN report
loading and QoS to IWU periodically
l IWU harmonizes roaming and handover
between the systems
l No service pause or data lose
Modul 3 - Introduction to WiMAX Part II 50
Inter-working Scenario 6
l Tightest coupling
l Standards, inter-working deployment
l High cost and risk
l IWU is the crux
l Manages radio resources
l Determines the access system according to the
loading
l Controls roaming and handover
l WCDMA CS/PS services are available to
WiMAX seamless
l WiMAX network
l Protocols of IEEE802.16e and NWG are under
development
l Not as mature as commercial WCDMA
l will be complementary of WCDMA
l Close coupling can share current resources
of WCDMA but high impact
l Loose coupling has less impact
l Inter-working should consider their
commercial progress
