1. Site selection and planning:


 Site Environment Management
Intent:

Adopt environment friendly measures at the site to minimize negative impacts of construction activities on
surroundings

Prepare site environment management plan during construction, covering the following:

 Top soil preservation (as applicable)


 Wheel washing facility at exit points of all construction sites
 Measures to mitigate air, ground water, noise and soil pollution at all construction sites
 Safe disposal of sanitary waste and food waste
 Traffic Management at all construction sites

 Passive Architecture

Intent:
Adopt passive architectural design features to minimise negative environmental impacts.
 Climate-responsive concepts and design features
(Eg: orientation, skylights, light wells, courtyard, shaded corridors, shading devices, shading from trees &
adjacent buildings, pergolas, punched windows, extended louvers, horizontal and vertical landscaping)
 Passive cooling / heating technologies
(Eg: wind tower, earth tunnel, geothermal technologies)

Day lighting: 50 % of the regularly occupied spaces with daylight luminance levels for a minimum of 110 Lux
(and a maximum of 2,200 Lux) in a clear sky condition on 21st September at 12 noon, at working plane
(through simulation or measurement approach)

 Basic Facilities for Construction Workforce


Intent:

Promote welfare of construction workforce by providing safe and healthy work environment

Provide the following basic facilities for construction workforce:

 Personal protective equipment


 First-aid and emergency facilities
 Sanitation facilities to meet or exceed BOCWA* requirement
 Adequate drinking water facilities

The Building and other Construction Workers Act 1996 & Rules 1998
 Integration with other Modes of Transport
Intent:

Encourage integration of MRTS network with other modes of transport thereby improving connectivity

Demonstrate that rail network is integrated with atleast two of the following transport modes:

 Bus Terminus (inter city / intra city)


 Railway Station (inter city / intra city)
 Airport

 Intermodal Commuter Transport


Intent:

Facilitate accessibility to station, thereby improving first & last mile connectivity

Provide the following to enhance accessibility to station:

 Bus stop (Public bus / Feeder bus) within 100m walkable distance from all entrance / exit points of
station (3 points)
 Dedicated Drop-off zones for Intermediate Public Transport (e-Rickshaw, Auto Rickshaw,
 Cycle Rickshaw etc.) Within 100m walkable distance from all entrance / exit points of station
 (3 points)
 Secured bicycle parking spaces (1 point)
 Motorcycle parking facility (1 point)

 Universal Access
Intent:

Ensure that station is designed to be commuter friendly, so as to enhance ridership

Demonstrate that the project has implemented the following: (1 point for each measure)

For Wheelchair Bound Commuters, provide the following:

 Ramps to maintain uniformity at all floor levels (station entrance / exit, concourse & platform level)
 Main walkways / pathways with adequate width in exterior areas.
 Dedicated space inside train, to be located close to entrance / exit doors
 Low height ticket counters

For Visually Impaired Commuters, provide the following:

 Tactile path from all entrance / exit points of station to platform, along with warning strip on
Platform edge
 Braille assistance were ever applicable
 Braille buttons inside and outside of all lifts
 Travel related announcements inside train and station
 Chime and audio indication during train arrival / departure

For Hearing Impaired Commuters, provide the following:

 Directional information and signage


 Dynamic display inside train

Restrooms (toilets) designed for differently abled people.

Designated parking close to entrance / exit of station

Note:

 Preserve / Restore Trees


Intent:

Preserve / restore existing trees to protect habitat and promote biodiversity

 Preserve / restore at least 50% of existing trees during construction. (OR) For every uprooted tree,
plant at least 10 new saplings.
 To plant new saplings, the project shall follow local bye-law or Ministry of Environment & Forest
(MoEF) guidelines, whichever is stringent.

Note:

For the credit calculations, the project shall consider all existing trees in the proposed corridor (stations &
viaduct)

 Heat Island Mitigation, Non-roof


Intent:

Minimize heat island effect so as to reduce impact on microclimate

For at least 75% of exposed non-roof impervious areas within the project site, implement at least one or
combination of the following:

 Shade from existing tree cover / newly planted saplings within 5 years of plantation
 Open grid pavers, including grass pavers (at least 50% pervious)
 Hardscape materials / parking sheds with Solar Reflective Index (SRI) value of at least 29 (and not
higher than 64)

Notes:

Non-roof impervious areas include but not limited to footpaths, pathways, surface parking etc. SRI values of
reflectance material shall be as per ASTM standards

 Heat Island Mitigation, Roof


Intent:

Minimize heat island effect so as to reduce impact on microclimate

Use material with high solar reflective index (SRI) value (or) vegetation (or) a combination, to cover the
exposed roof areas.

Notes:

 For Low-sloped roof (Slope < 2:12) the minimum SRI value shall be 78 and for Steep-sloped roof
(Slope > 2:12) the minimum SRI value shall be 29
 Roof areas include but not limited to station roof, entry / exit roofs, ancillary facility roofs, etc.
 The project may exclude roof areas covered by solar panels, equipment, cooling towers, skylights etc.
from credit calculations
 SRI values of reflectance material shall be as per ASTM standards
 Economic Internal Rate of Return
Intent:

Maximize Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) to enhance environmental, economic & social benefits.

Achieve at least 15% Economic Internal Rate of Return (EIRR) for the project in accordance with the
sanctioned Detailed Project Report (DPR)

Note:

Economic Internal Rate of Return includes but not limited to:

 Time savings
 Fuel savings
 Pollution reduction
 Accidents reduction
 Decongestion etc.

 Green Education
Intent:

Increase awareness on green practices among commuters thereby leading to environmental benefits.

Demonstrate that the project has a plan to implement at least three of the following Green Education
strategies:

 Comprehensive signage programme on Green Education


 Environmental awareness campaigns in association with NGOs / walking clubs / bicycling clubs
 Initiatives to encourage use of MRTS among public
 Organize seminars, workshops and training programme on Green Education for staff

2. Water Efficiency:
 Efficient Water Fixtures
Intent:

Encourage the use of efficient water fixtures, thereby minimizing the use of potable water

Low water consuming fixtures like Dual-flush WC, low flow taps etc. can be installed at the stations. These
fixtures help reduce water consumption without compromising on the water requirements.

Note:

Water from sources such as bore wells, natural wells and municipal water systems is considered as potable
water

 Rain Water Harvesting, Station


Intent:

Encourage effective rain water management, thereby enhancing ground water table.

Reduce municipal water demand through effective rainwater management (reuse and recycle).

 Capture at least 25% of run-off volumes from roof and non-roof areas of station. The harvesting
system designed shall cater to at least one day normal rainfall* occurred in the last 5 years
 In areas where the central / state ground water board does not recommend artificial rain water
recharge (or) if the groundwater table is less than 4 m, such projects need not comply to the
mandatory requirement.

Notes:

 *To arrive at one day normal rainfall, divide peak month rainfall occurred in each year (in last 5
years) by number of rainy days in the respective month, and take the average of the five values
obtained.
 Abnormal rainy days like flash floods can be excluded from calculations.
 In areas where the water percolation is limited, collection tanks may be provided to meet the
requirement
 Runoff Coefficient of various surface types is as follows:

 Ultra Efficient Water Fixtures
Intent:

Encourage the use of ultra-efficient water fixtures, thereby minimizing the use of potable water.

Use efficient Water Closets, Urinals, Faucets / Taps, Health Faucets, whose flush / flow rates exceed the
following baseline criteria:

Intent:

Encourage effective rain water management, thereby enhancing ground water table.

Intent:

Encourage continuous monitoring to improve water performance of the station, thereby reducing the usage
of potable water.

Demonstrate that the project has installed sub-meters for atleast 2 of the following end uses: (1 point)

 Municipal water supply


 Water consumption through bore-well
 Water purchased from external sources (water tanker)
 Water consumption/ supply for HVAC cooling tower make-up
 Water consumption/ supply for landscape requirements

Ensure Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Plan for the below applications: (1 point)

 Rain water harvesting structures


 HVAC cooling towers (AND)
 Carry out comprehensive water audits once in three years and explore opportunities for water
efficiency.

3. Energy Efficiency:
 Commissioning of Equipment & Systems
Intent:

Ensure that equipment & systems are commissioned to enhance efficiency, thereby reduce environmental
impacts.
Demonstrate that the project has commissioned the following equipment, systems & controls, as applicable:

 Heating, Ventilating and Air-conditioning (HVAC)


 Lighting
 Elevators & Escalators
 Pumps & Motors
 On-site Renewable energy systems
 Building Management System (BMS)
 Power back-up systems (Generators sets, gas turbines etc.)

Note: The commissioning process for each equipment & systems should cover the following:

 Equipment / system specifications


 Key monitoring aspects to sustain performance
 Estimated energy consumption (required for benchmarking)
 Minimum Energy Efficiency, Traction & Non-traction
Intent:

Enhance energy efficiency of the project to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, thereby minimizing
environmental impacts.

Traction Power

Demonstrate minimum energy savings of 25% through Regenerative Braking System over peak traction
power requirement.

Non-Traction Power

Demonstrate that the following equipment & systems are designed to meet minimum energy efficiency
requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2010 or ECBC 2007 (Revised version, May 2008), whichever is stringent:

 Heating, Ventilating and Air-conditioning (HVAC) equipment & systems


 Lighting systems

Note:

Projects can show compliance to ASHRAE 90.1-2010 or ECBC 2007 (Revised version, May 2008), whichever is
stringent either through Whole Building Approach or Prescriptive Approach to demonstrate energy efficiency.

 Enhanced Energy Efficiency, Traction & Non-traction


Intent:

Enhance energy efficiency of project to reduce dependency on fossil fuels, thereby minimizing
environmental impacts.

(A traction network or traction power network is an electricity grid for the supply of electrified rail
networks.)

Traction Power

Demonstrate minimum energy savings of 30% through Regenerative Braking System over peak traction
power requirement.
Non-Traction Power

1. Building Envelope

Envelope measures for the following to exceed requirements of ASHRAE 90.1-2010 or ECBC 2007 (Revised
version, May 2008), whichever is stringent:

 U-value of Wall assembly


 U-value of Roof assembly
 SHGC of Vertical Fenestration

("U" Value is the coefficient of transmission, i.e., the transmission of heat through the materials, which
compose the building's "envelope," or outer shell.)

2. Lighting

Demonstrate that the project has reduced LPD requirement over minimum LPD requirements of ASHRAE
90.1-2010 or ECBC 2007 (Revised version, May 2008), whichever is stringent.

Lighting power density is a simple screening measure that indicates whether a space offers opportunities for
energy savings. Lighting Power Density (LPD) is defined as watts of lighting per square foot of room floor
area (W/sf).

3. HVAC Equipment & Systems.

Demonstrate percentage improvement in efficiency of HVAC equipment over minimum efficiency


requirements of ASHRAE 90.1 - 2010 or ECBC 2007 (Revised version, May 2008), whichever is stringent.

3.1 Demonstrate that the project has installed Variable Speed Drives (VSDs) for all pumps and motors with a
rating of 15 HP and above.

4. Escalators & Elevators

Demonstrate that the project has installed Variable Voltage Variable Frequency (VVVF) technology for all
escalators and elevators.

5. Other Applications

Demonstrate that the project has implemented energy efficiency measures for atleast four of the following:
(1 point for each measure)

 LED fixtures for 100% general lighting inside the train


 LED fixtures for 100% signages inside station
 Occupancy sensors in public toilets
 Dimmers/dimmable lights with programmable dimming schedule in passenger areas
 Building Management Systems (BMS)
 All office equipment such as computers, printers, fax machines, etc. to have Energy Star or
equivalent labeling

 Eco-Friendly Refrigerants and Halon-free Systems


Intent:
Encourage use of eco-friendly refrigerants and halon-free systems in the project, thereby minimising impact
on the ozone layer.

Demonstrate that refrigerants used in the station are eco-friendly and have low or no Ozone Depleting
Potential (ODP) and Global Warming Potential (GWP).

 On-site Renewable Energy


Intent:

Encourage the use of on-site renewable energy systems, to minimize the environmental impacts associated
with use of fossil fuels

Demonstrate onsite renewable energy generation for at least 2.5% of total annual non-traction energy*
consumption of the station.

Notes:

*Annual Non-traction energy consumption may be arrived by calculating the sum total of annual energy
consumed by all Lighting systems, HVAC equipment & systems (used for non-traction requirements),
Elevators & Escalators, Office equipment etc.

 Green House Gas Mitigation


Intent:

Reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions through use of MRTS, thereby mitigating global warming.

Note:

Percentage reduction in GHG emissions (direct & indirect) shall be calculated based on expected modal shift
from conventional modes of transport (baseline) to MRTS project.

4. MATERIAL CONSERVATIONS:
 Segregation of Waste, during Operation
Intent:

Facilitate segregation of waste at source to encourage reuse or recycling of materials, thereby avoiding
waste being sent to landfills

Provide dedicated space for segregation & collection of the following recyclable wastes (during operation) in
unpaid areas & landscape:

 Dry waste (Paper, Plastic, Metal)


 Organic waste (Food, Landscape waste)

 Handling of Waste Materials, during Construction


Intent:

Facilitate segregation of construction & demolition waste to encourage reuse or recycling of materials,
thereby avoiding waste being sent to landfills.

Prepare and implement Waste Management Plan to divert at least 50% of construction waste by weight or
volume, from landfills.

Notes:

Construction waste refers to civil & interior waste

 Demolition waste refers to waste from demolition of existing buildings / structures


 Construction & Demolition waste includes Cement Concrete pile heads, Cement concrete blocks,
 Broken Bricks, Broken Cement plaster, Rubble, Broken Stone (marble, granite, sand stone, as
applicable), Sand, Gravel, Broken Timber / Wood (especially in the demolition of old buildings), Steel
(from RCC, door / window frames, roofing support, staircase railings, etc.), Empty Cement bags, Paint
containers, Cladding waste (ACP etc.), False ceiling waste, Broken Conduits (iron, plastic), Broken
Pipes (Gl, Iron, plastic), Broken Electrical fixtures (copper / aluminum wiring, wooden baton, Bakelite
/ plastic, switches, wire insulation), Broken Panels (wooden, laminated), other (glazed tiles, glass
panes) etc.
 Excavated earth & stones should not be considered under this credit, as these are natural resources.
 Temporary materials such as materials used for formwork, scaffolding, etc., shall not be considered
for this credit calculation.

 Materials with Recycled Content


Intent:

Encourage the use of building materials with recycled content to reduce dependence on virgin materials.

Use materials with recycled content such that the percentage of recycled content to the total cost of civil
and interior materials is as > 10 % or > 20 %.

Notes:

 Only civil and interior material are to be considered in the credit calculations
 The project may exclude Rail Tracks, Overhead equipment, Rolling stock, Signaling &
Telecommunication equipment and MEP Systems from the credit calculation
 Recycled materials are generally manufactured from waste materials obtained from recycling
programs (post-consumer) or production process or industrial / agricultural source (pre-consumer or
post-industrial)

 Local Materials
Intent:

Encourage use of local building materials, thereby minimizing environmental impacts from transportation.

Ensure at least 10% of the total materials (by cost) used are manufactured locally within a distance of 400
km of project site.
Notes:

 Only civil and interior material are to be considered in the credit calculations
 The project may exclude Rail Tracks, Overhead equipment, Rolling stock, Signaling &
Telecommunication equipment and MEP Systems from the credit calculation
 Materials manufactured 400km away from the project site, but assembled locally cannot be
considered as local materials
 Extraction and processing of raw materials need not be considered as part of this credit calculations

2. Indoor Environment & Comfort:


 Fresh Air Ventilation
Intent:

Provide adequate outdoor air ventilation, so as to avoid pollutants affecting indoor air quality.

 For Mechanically Ventilated Spaces

Provide minimum fresh outdoor air rates for the following spaces:

Area cfm* per person cfm* per sq.ft

Platform and Concourse level 11 NA

Station Controller Room 5+ 0.06

Office spaces 5+ 0.06

Retail areas 7.5 + 0.12

Provide air filters having Minimum Efficient Reporting Value (MERV) of 8 or better, for treating
outdoor air.

 For Naturally Ventilated Spaces

Provide operable windows or doors to the exteriors, in all occupied areas, such that the operable
area is designed to meet at least 10% to the total carpet area.

Notes:

 The project need not consider Toilets, Store rooms, Equipment / Utility rooms under credit calculations
 For sliding windows / doors, only openable area to the exteriors shall be considered in calculations.
 The project need not consider platform levels of Elevated stations for demonstrating compliance.

 IAQ Management Plan, during Construction


Intent:
Reduce indoor air quality problems resulting from construction, thereby promoting health and well-being of
construction workforce

Develop and implement an Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) management plan during construction and pre-
occupancy phases, addressing the following measures, as applicable:

Scheduling

 Coordinate construction activities to minimise disruption of occupied spaces.


 Carefully sequence construction activities to minimise IAQ issues.
 Protect installed & on-site absorptive materials from moisture damage. Do not install moisture-
damaged materials unless they have been properly dried.

Protection of Electrical, Mechanical Equipment & Systems

 Store equipment & systems in a clean, dry location.


 Protect ducts and equipment by sealing openings.
 Clean air plenums before use.

Housekeeping

 Implement practices to ensure a clean job site to control potential contaminants such as dirt, dust
and debris.
 Clean up spills, and keep work areas dry.

Isolate Clean Areas

 Isolate areas to prevent contamination of clean or occupied spaces using physical separation.

Source Control

 Avoid use of finish materials with high Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) and formaldehyde levels.
 Isolate and ventilate, as appropriate, while using any toxic materials or materials creating exhaust
fumes.
 Implement measures to avoid the tracking of pollutants into the work area and occupied portions of
the building.

 Low-emitting Materials
Intent:

Encourage use of materials with low emissions, so as to reduce adverse health impacts on users

Demonstrate that the project uses paints, coatings, adhesives, sealants and sealant primers that do not
exceed the following Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) levels in grams / litre (less water) as applicable:

 Isolation of Polluting Equipment & Systems


Intent:

Minimize the exposure of commuters to hazardous indoor pollutants, which adversely affect indoor air
quality.

Demonstrate that the project has installed the following criteria, as applicable: (1 point)

 Permanent entryway systems such as grates, grills, slotted systems etc. of 6 feet long, at all entry /
exit points
 Deck-to-deck partitions, self-closing doors & independent ventilation for Janitor rooms with exhaust
rate of 0.50 CFM/sq.ft

 Day lighting
Intent:

Ensure adequate day lighting to improve visual comfort and connectivity with the outdoor environment.

The project can choose any one of the following options, to show compliance:

Option 1: Simulation Approach


Demonstrate through computer simulation that at least 75% of the regularly occupied spaces in the station
achieve daylight luminance levels for a minimum of 110 Lux (and a maximum of 2,200 Lux) in a clear sky
condition on 21 September at 3 pm, at working plane. Areas with 2,200 Lux or more daylight illumination
levels shall be not considered.

Option 2: Measurement Approach

Demonstrate through daylight luminance measurement that at least 75% of the regularly occupied spaces in
the station achieve daylight luminance levels for a minimum of 110 Lux. Areas with 2,200 Lux or more
daylight illumination levels shall be not considered. Measurements shall be taken after installation of
furniture, equipment & systems at floor level at 9 am, 12 noon, and 3 pm, on a 10 feet square grid. To show
compliance, consider the average of the measurements taken at 9 am, 12 noon, and 3 pm.

Note: The project need not consider areas such as Toilets, Store rooms, Equipment / Utility rooms under
credit calculations.

 Eco-friendly House Keeping Chemicals


Intent:

Encourage the use of eco-friendly housekeeping chemicals so as to reduce adverse impacts on environment
and occupant health.

Demonstrate that project is using eco-friendly chemicals that meet Green Seal standards (GS-37) / ECO
LOGO or other equivalent standard for all housekeeping applications.

 Commuter facilities
Intent:

Provide basic facilities in the station to enhance commuter safety & experience

Demonstrate that the project has provided at least 6 commuter facilities of the following: (1 point)

 Information kiosk
 Locality map*
 Ticket Vending Machines
 ATM
 Drinking water facility
 Washrooms
 First Aid/ Medical facility
 Provision for seating
 Mobile phone charging facility

 Innovation in Design & Construction


Intent:

Provide projects an opportunity to be awarded points for exemplary performance above the requirements
set by the IGBC Green MRTS Rating and/or innovative performance in green practices not specifically
addressed in the rating
 Grading System
