You’re invited to make computer science
education available to more WNY students.
WNY STEM Hub and Code.org are
recruiting teachers for Code.org
professional learning program. This is an in-
depth learning experience for teachers
interested in learning Code.org’s Computer
Sciences or Computer Science Principles
(for middle school and school students
respectively). The training is offered free of
charge to teachers who are accepted into
the program. WNY STEM Hub is the
Regional Partner (there are only two
regional partners in NYS). Details are here,

York Power Authority and Mission Ignite
Computers for Children to present a series
of FREE two-hour computer classes for

finalists include teams from Olean High
School and Lockport High School.
Honorable mentions went to teams from the
King Urban Life Center, Harry F. Abate

Calling All Student Artists and
Designers!
Astronauts have had custom-designed
Mission Patches on their space suits since
1965. The Student Spaceflight Experiments
Program celebrates this tradition with a
Mission Patch Design Competition.
Students (any school, any grade) can draw
an original design that embraces the spirit of
this competition or the American space
race. Designs must be on 3.5” x 5” paper
only and submitted by Feb. 28. There are
some local experts willing to inspire your
class, too. A local panel of judges will select
two designs to submit to SSEP.

WNY STEM Hub is often asked to have a
table at community events. We like these
tables to be fun and engaging and include
STEM-themed activities for kids, too. Would

$125,000 from AT&T, as well as access
expert services and mentorship both from
AT&T and external ed-tech thought-leaders.
The application is open through January
27 and the program will begin with
selected ventures in April 2018.
Potential areas of focus include, but are not
limited to: mobile applications that drive
education outcomes; platforms for teachers,
students and/or parents; learning and
curriculum management tools; assessment
and outcome tracking platforms; education
distribution (online instruction, courses,
etc.); and increased access for existing best
practices.

STEAM Ahead, a day of interactive
