Resident in Bovine Health Management

School of Veterinary Sciences, Bristol/Langford

Six months Employment followed by a 3 Year Residency

This is a Residency position in a training programme which is aligned with the European College of Bovine Health
Management (ECBHM) Diploma training programme, leading to eligibility to sit ECBHM board exams. It is
tenable for 3.5 years, subject to satisfactory annual review of progress. It will incorporate a fixed term scholarship
working towards a taught Masters in Veterinary Science during the last 3 years of the residency. The main role
of the post-graduate student will be to join our vibrant clinical / research group and be mentored by ECBHM
diplomats as well as other Diploma holders. Time will be split between clinical work, research and personal study.

The resident will perform ambulatory clinical work through our first opinion farm practice at Langford Vets,
serving all farm animal species across North Somerset. In this role, you will contribute to the clinical teaching of
veterinary undergraduates, have responsibility for individual animal and herd health work and assist with
farmer education and training courses.

As a member of the University of Bristol’s Farm Animal Group, you will collaborate with academics at all levels
conducting multi-million pound interdisciplinary and internationally recognised farm animal research in a number
of fields. Current active research themes include antimicrobial stewardship and resistance (@AMRForce),
livestock sustainability, veterinary-farmer communication and population health. You will be supervised to
undertake research leading to peer-reviewed publications.

The MSc in Veterinary Science will develop your clinical research skills and enhance universally important skills
such as scientific writing, critical reading and data analysis.

The Resident will be expected to undertake informal group teaching of undergraduate students undertaking
rotations and a small amount of formal teaching. The position carries responsibilities for out of hours care of
emergency first opinion cases on a rota basis (1 in 5).

You must be a member (or eligible to become a member) of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons with at
least 2 years experience in practice or 1 year in a recognized internship. You must satisfy the English
Language requirements for the Masters in Veterinary Science programme
