Instead of a warm-up question from the unit test, have students answer an exit ticket from the unit test (attached)
Review what we went over before the break using the interactive notes
1. What did taxes from Parliament have to do with the start of the war between the colonists and Britain?
2. Why did the King give the colonists taxes?
3. Why did the colonists think the taxes were unfair?
4. Who was Thomas Jefferson?
5. What was the Declaration of Independence?
Talk about "No Taxation Without Representation"
1. What does this mean?
2. Why do you think the colonists agreed with this?
3. Do you think that it is fair that the colonists had to follow a law without having any say in the government?
4. Compare this to today
1. democracy
2. we follow the laws of our government because we are represented in our government
3. the people have the power and have representation through voting and freedom of speech
Say that we are going to learn about an important person that played a large role during the American Revolution

Read Textbook: pgs 82 - 83
Have students talk about the questions below in small groups and write down some notes:
1. Who do you think this person was?
2. Why do you think he was important?
3. What was he talking about?
4. Why do you think he was giving this speech?
5. Who do you think he was giving the speech to?
6. Do you think he was on the same side as the colonists or the British?
Come together as a class and talk about their ideas
Talk about "Give me Liberty or Give me Death"
