If a teacher asks you to give a presentation in class, it is very important to bear a few
things in mind. Everyone will choose and present a topic to the classmates and you will
have to do it too. There are people who get awfully nervous or simply are afraid to
speaking in public, or they are horrified at this. Many times, people get very nervous
either because of people looking at them or simply because they are afraid to make this
or that mistake in front of a certain audience. Whether before potential employers, in a
job interview, or before your classmates in an academic presentation, it is the same. It's
like they say: “You can run, but you can´t hide!” You must live the experience of giving
a presentation in public and after doing it you will feel better. You have two options: to
do a mediocre presentation and just call it a wrap, or, on the contrary, to learn the basic
techniques in order to do a more professional presentation. Many people who choose
the first option it is because they have not learned the necessary techniques to make a
successful presentation. But since at university we must make presentations and if it is a
requirement that we must meet, we must be skilled speakers before an audience. As the
Greeks and the Romans said, it is important to know how to have good rhetorical
competence in order to be good speakers and convince the audience you are addressing
to. Learning the basic techniques to make a good oral presentation will help you to
inspire those who listen to you. It will make them take action, move them or simply
change the way they view a given topic, for example. Instead of making a mediocre
presentation and getting nervous and that people notice it better is to take the second
option and try to enjoy the process by doing a well-made lake and thus emerge
triumphant from the presentation. Among the videos I have viewed, I have found many
suggestions on how presentations can be improved, making them more professional.
Among the techniques and suggestions is the subject of learning to have good body
language. I think that, if you know, you master the subject of the presentation and what
you are going to say, it makes it easier to be less nervous and therefore you have a body
language that shows that you are sure of yourself. It is important that your body is not
rigid and that with your movements of the hands and the whole body give the
impression that you are a confident person of yourself and in control of the situation. It
is also very important to look the public in the eyes, which shows that you consider the
opinions of others and that you will interact with your colleagues in the presentation.
Both body language and looking in the eyes of your audience will show that you know
what you are presenting and that you have a firm opinion on the subject.
