Measurement Uncertainty (MU) Values for ALS Laboratories

Measurement uncertainty can be defined as the range of values that the laboratory
believes the result could reasonably be attributed to the concentration of the
parameter determined.
Date MU was determined: 3/10/2017
Division and Site: Water, Bendigo
Laboratory: Chemistry

Instructions
This table below is to be used if you require the MU for a laboratory result.
1. From your test report locate the Analysis or method code required.
2. Enter the corresponding MU in the cells below:

3. This will generate the result range that the laboratory can be 95 % confident in.

Lowest Result 90.0 Highest Result 110.0

Notes
1. These corrected results are only valid if the correct measurment uncertainity is
entered into the cells above.

2. The pH value can not measured using the above calculations. The MU for pH is
"your result" ± 0.3. For example 7.0 ± 0.3 (6.7 - 7.3).
3. The MU calculation is based on MU estimations performed in the vicinity of the
relevant regulatory limits. The calculations performed assumed the MU is consistent
over all concentrations.
