Who is your idol (favorite singer/film star/ writer/…) and why?
Questions involved:
- Tell me about your idol(favorite singer/film star/ writer/…)?
-How long do you have the idol?
- Why does he/she become your idol?
-Introduce his/her representative works.
- What is your craziest thing you have done?
-Does the idol influence your life positively or negatively? Why?
-How do you treat your idol in a good attitude?
- If you don’t have any idol, tell your reasons. Then choose anther topic: -What is
your favorite film/book/song/motto… And why?
--Where did you find it?
-What’s its role in your life?
My favorite star is Ariel Lin. Ariel is a famous actress from Taiwan. She was a very good Idol called
it started with A Kiss. Because the idol, in 2008, she became the first to get the Golden Bell
awards for best actress in a drama actor. Last year, she got the Golden Bell award for best actress
again by In Time with You. In addition, she released two Music Albums and acted in lots of Music
Video, advertisements and so on. Apart from her achievements, her inner beauty is the thing that
more attracted me and prompted her to become my idol. These advantages about her especially
impress me. First, she is a petite little girl with great perseverance and determination. She loves
her families so much. The initial motivation she entered the entertainment circle is to give your
family a better life. She used her frail shoulders to assume the responsibility to take care of the
family. Second, she keeps learning. During her high school, she was a good student. Later, she
graduated from the famous Taiwan Politics University, department of Korean. She love reading
and read vastly. Undoubtedly, she is knowledgeable. Even now, she was still studying in the UK
constantly. Last but not least, she is confident because of her hard-working yet humble,
apprehensive and treats people very carefully. She is enthusiastic about public welfare. I have
learned much from her since she became my idol in my high school period, her love towards her
families, her firmness towards her passion and her spirit towards her life. She is Ariel Lin, my idol
and my star.
If we think it for granted that an idol should have cool hairstyle or fashionable clothes, even just
distinctive appearance, we are absolutely wrong. With that idea we may waste a large amount of
time. At the same time, there exist many young people admiring entertainment stars crazily. In
my view, whoever is able to be our idol as long as we can learn something good from them? By
worshipping the idol, we can improve ourselves and we can lead a positive and happy life. So
here I want remind you of that: “Believe in the ideal, not the idol.” Of course we’d better not say
that an idol is nothing and after all we would need an example to direct us in our lives.
Unit 2
Is living together without getting married acceptable in your country?
Although this phenomenon is common and popular and extending, it is still difficult to accept for
the vast majority of people, especially the generation of our parents. Not parents will allow you
to do so, if you are a girl. Admittedly, cohabitation has its advantages. One of them is that the
lovers can know each other better by living together. They can decide whether their romantic
relationship should go on. Secondly, cohabitation improves their sense of responsibility. However,
there are also many problems resulting from the cohabitation. A good example to illustrate this
point is that some girls might be hurt by their irresponsible boyfriends.
Do you think couples should live with their parent or on their own?
I think couples can live with their parents but can not live on their parents. We all know that in
the United States, children generally seek an independent life at 18. But for us Chinese, we pay
special attention to the warmth of the family. Live together enable us to take care of each
other .So we hope all family members live together. "Four generations under one roof" is Chinese
biggest happiness. But this does not mean that children take for granted their excessive
dependence upon their parents. We should be ashamed of becoming “neets”. We also need a job
to have our own source of income and become economically independent and self-reliant.
Unit 6
What is your favorite food?
The Food is too much in China and I particularly like various features delicious food. So it is really
hard to say which one is my favorite food.
Unit 7
Part 1:
Where is your favorite place to travel?
My favorite place to travel is Qingdao, a beautiful seaside city. The red roofs, green trees, blue
sea, and sky form a bright and colorful picture of Qingdao. The city is sometimes known as the
Switzerland of the Orient.
Surrounded by the sea on three sides, Qingdao attracts many tourists with its charming seascape.
Sights like Qingdao Polar Ocean World, the Zhan Bridge, Wusi Square, Mt. Laoshan, will help you
remember Qingdao. Just walking on the sand and listening to the surf breaking on the beach
becomes enjoyable.
Do you like to travel? Do you like to travel alone or with others? Why?
Yes. I like to travel with others, especially friends or family members. There're some reasons that I
love traveling with others. The first is I wish I can share my every section of happy time with them
.Every thing encountered and every sights seen are novel on the way to travel. I wanted to share
the vision rather than see it for myself. The second is for safety concerns. After all, travel is to go
out in the outside, so we need to protect ourselves and watch each other's backs. Travel is not
always going smoothly. In this case, many difficulties and dangers will attend upon the travel
alone and I may feel very helpless.
Unit 8
Most people feel that their bodies have some kind of flaw (defect) that they would
like to enhance (improve, make better) or remove via cosmetic surgery... If you could
enhance or remove something about your body via cosmetic surgery, what would you
change?
Why do you think you need it?
What type of changes do you want?
Would this enhancement make you feel better about yourself?
Would you feel more attractive? Why / Why not?
Would cosmetic surgery make you feel more attractive? Why? Why not??
Loving beauty is part of human nature. Of his looks also is such. Cosmetic surgery can improve
your looks to a certain extent. Improving your looks, in the individual, you may raise confidence.
But for cosmetic surgery, only to these kinds of case I am for it. The first: It is a very sound person
originally, in life has an accident, make the body parts, such as a problem caused by accidents,
burns, sequela etc., cosmetic appearance is very necessary. The second is to oneself of face
special unsure or because the appearance affects the cause and harm of recruitment or
appearance, should do cosmetic, for example, cleft lip repair operation.
I am firmly opposed to some ordinary people because of some skin-deep reasons to do cosmetic
surgery. Because plastic surgery has a lot of risks and killed people is not in the minority. Good
appearance is not the major determining factor for one’s success. The ceo of alibaba, Mayun,is a
good example to illustrate it. One’s outer beauty will fade quickly as time goes by, but one’s inner
beauty will always shine. What’s more, although cosmetic appearance after changed but it will
not pass on to the next generation. Here is a joke said: Have a look of Kim Hee Sun’s and
zhangbozhi’s children, you will know who on earth had plastic surgery. The genes will not lie. Our
appearance is the look of a person and another person’s together and is a gift of our parents. We
should cherish and live with it.
I know some people may resolutely claim that we are living in a highly competitive society.
People regard appearance as a weapon and a means of empowerment. To do cosmetic surgery or
not to do, it is their rights to choose. I just want to say: Have a realistic understanding of the risk
of the surgery (death, injury, failure) and think about what the results will be in the immediate
and long term, as the operation may be irreversible. Make a balance decision and do not rush
into surgery.
Unit 10
1. Do you think advertising influences what people buy very strongly? And explain
your opinion.
Yes!Advertising is a tremendous force. First of all there is such a fact. Every day, it is easy to see
advertisements all around us. Look around. It is common to find advertisements on TV or radio.
Most advertisements are very short for people to remember. Nike, for example, has a simple
slogan used all around the world: "Just do it". You might think that advertisements do not affect
you, but the next time you buy a soft drink, ask yourself: Why am I buying this particular product?
Secondly, the presence of advertising is reasonable. There are some merits of advertising. The
first is advertising is informative, which provides the customers with a quick access to the product
needed. The second is consumers can expect to have a best price by comparing and contrasting
the prices and specifications of the commodity advertised by different suppliers.
2. Can you give me an example of advertising that you don't like? And why?
I do not like the ad is Yang Yang Yang's ad and naobaijin’s ad. They are difficult to see, and it is
difficult to listen to the voices in my time watching TV and it is a way to waste my time.
Naobaijin advertising is such: There is an old couple, wriggling their hips and dancing. But
advertising does not stop shouting: no gifts for the holidays this year ah, no gifts, only gifts
naobaijin, naobaijin. It is not a bit of creatives. And there's not some introduced products just
shouting slogans.
3. “Brands give people a sense of identity and help them fit in with a peer group”.
Do you agree or disagree? Why?
It is hard to say agree or disagree completely.
I admit brands give people a sense of identity. A brand to grow up is very not easy. Because of
the advertisements, the brands are better known. And all advertisements are designed to make
people buy a product. An advertisement for a soft drink, for example, might show a group of
trendy young people who are having fun. The young people are all drinking the soft drink.
Advertisers are saying to you, "Why don't you buy it and be like these people? You can be young,
modern and trendy, too." The peer group do this, so do it. But young people should have their
own independent thinking and gradually formed its own consumption concept. They should not
only follow the brand but should have their own unique personality and taste. In addition, of
course, the most need to consider is their economic capacity. The economic base determines the
level of consumption.
Undoubtedly, nothing is more important than living in a society where ordinary people can enjoy
the conveniences and competitive prices brought by commercials. I believe that the negative
effects can be minimized through sustainable economic growth and education.
