Dear Colleague:

The Integrated Studies program is a major offered by the College of Arts,

Humanities and Social Sciences. The program allows students to develop an
individualized curriculum of study through a broad-based education in the liberal
arts and sciences. The flexible nature of the program allows the students to
integrate coursework from two specific academic disciplines. Students select two
focus areas and integrate them in a capstone experience which is a scholarly
interdisciplinary research paper.

It is the students’ responsibility to identify a focus area advisor from each

discipline who will oversee that portion of the capstone research paper. If you
decide to participate as a focus area advisor, you will be asked to read the
students’ first and final draft paper to determine if the information reflects the
concepts and methods of your discipline and is suitable to move forward to the
presentation phase. Finally, we would like you to serve as a review panelist for
the student’s capstone presentation which will be held at the last two weeks of
the semester for one hour.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you in advance for you time
and consideration of participating in the Integrated Studies program.

Best Regards,

Dr. Akwasi Osei, Associate Dean, College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences,
Chairperson, Department History, Political Science & Philosophy

Dr. Phyllis Brooks Collins, Director and Assistant Professor
