Introducing the new VMGSim 9.0

We're proud to announce the release of VMGSim 9.0, a more powerful version of
our innovative process simulator. We have dedicated ourself to ensure our
customers get the most out of these new features and improvements. We feel
everything from the design, user interface, and new process modelling technology
offers more functionality, depth, and precision. If you want to learn more about our
simulation technology, please contact us through our website.

Main Features of VMGSim V9

Thermodynamic model APR for Natural Gas 2 (APRNG2)
The thermodynamic model APRNG2 facilitate a powerful modeling for gas and
hydrocarbon system calculations. It supersedes the APR and APRNG property
packages.

 Designed to provide consistent modelling for hydrocarbon rich and water

rich phases using a flexible and consistent mixing rule, in particular systems
containing methanol, water and hydrocarbons.

 Provides a fully integrated multiphase envelope calculator ensuring a

complete understanding of highly complex mixtures for the hydrocarbon
processing industry.
 Delivers a completely generic mixing rule formulation and handle non-
polar or polar mixtures. The interaction parameters are easily accessible by
the user through the Basis or Model Regression environments.
 Models the vapour-liquid-liquid equilibrium computations and vapour
pressures of non-polar and polar compounds.
 Accurately calculates the enthalpies and liquid heat capacities for
mixtures of water and glycols.

PIONA Characterization Matrix

Fueled with a new approach of the pseudo-component characterization
technique, the PIONA (n-Paraffin, Iso-paraffin, Olefin, Naphthene, and Aromatic)
Characterization, VMGSim effectively models the oil environment.

 Maximize the use of your extended hydrocarbon analysis

 Easily characterize a wider span of materials from conventional oil to shale
fluids and heavy oil
 Track the composition of one to thousands of wells using one component
slate
 Better estimate your physical properties to meet your sales specifications
 Use accurate characterization to proactively manage your production
outcomes
 Mix, flash, fractionate and even react your feed by capturing the essential
chemistry of your feed stocks
 Calculate direct compositional based mixture properties
 Combine PIONA characterization with our Field-wide Allocation and
Composition Tracking System to proactively adapt to your changing field
conditions

Advancements to refinery reactors

Improve your modelling of refinery reactors utilizing VMGSim technology
advancements.

 Determine coke formation rates with tube coating and

feed inhibitors
 Handle up to C10 reaction pathways using the “Light
Ends” PIONA ethane or propane reactive option (Heavy
Option as well)
 Solve multiple tube section inputs within one Ethylene
Cracking unit
 Speed up solution times using the “All vapor option” by
simplifying internal flash calculations
 Directly specify coil outlet pressure, coil outlet
temperature and overall conversion

More simulation examples

examples using conventional and PIONA based characterizations

PVT Analysis
 Perform reservoir fluid characterization in VMGSim with the PVT analysis
unit operation
 Available experiments:
 Constant Mass Expansion
 Constant Volume Depletion
 Differential Liberation
 Separator
 Volumetric
 Viscosity

Tank emissions

 Estimate and report emission losses from organic liquid storage tanks
according to EPA’s Guidelines
 Calculate all sources of emissions under normal operation such as:
 Standing storage losses: tank breathing losses, rim seal losses, fittings losses
and deck seam losses
 Working / withdrawal losses
 Estimates losses per component and for the overall fluid; over annual and
monthly time periods
 Perform rigorous fluid property and flash calculations
 Produce emissions reports within seconds

Pipeline dynamics and Pigging Analysis

Model your pipeline slugging rate and pigging analysis using pipeline dynamics.

 Insert pigs directly in the pipeline or through the pig launcher

 Track pig location and velocity throughout the gathering system
 Predict liquid holdup and pressure loss as pig proceeds down the pipe
and sweeps liquid ahead
 Pig one or multiple pipes—there's no limit to the number of pipes in a
network that can be pigged
 Analyze different control mechanisms to mitigate large liquid slugs leaving
the pipeline into the downstream slug catcher
 Use Scheduler block to develop a pigging schedule for pipelines at
regular intervals
 Pipe slug frequency calculations

Min-Max Value Tracker

Effectively track your depressuring model by using maximum and minimum value
tracker in Depressuring historian.

For instance, we are interested in the minimum temperature in the vessel, to ensure
that it does not go below the minimum temperature rating for the vessel walls.

To facilitate this analysis, a min-max tracker has been implemented. You can
access it from the Dynamics menu. This tool will keep track of the minimum and
maximum values for variables during the course of the simulation.

Extension Unit Operation

 Develop your own custom unit operation
 Program the unit op through any COM supported language (C#, VB,
C++, etc.)
 Customize your own forms and Visio icons through visual designer to
meet your needs
 Access our shortcut distillation example in the help manual

Variable Stepsize
Track your depressuring better by optimizing your integrator stepsize using variable
stepsize.

 Shrink the stepsize if the gradients are large, allowing the calculation to
better track the evolution of the system over time.
 Expand back to the base size when the system is approaching a steady-
state, , allowing a better performance.

Stream Recording
Save your time and effectively share your data from upstream to downstream
processes by using stream record and playback feature.

 Model your process and flare in parallel, the data from a process team
analysis can then be passed to the flare team for the flare network
analysis.
 Share your data simply by copy and paste it using Excel.
