Group B

Lecturer Professor Madya Dr. Shakinaz Binti Desa

Objective
1.To determine the blood pressure and heart rate in different conditions2.
2.To determine the human respiratory volum

MATERIALS
Blood pressure sensor
Cold water
Spirometer

METHODOLOGY
A. Blood pressure as a vital sign
1.The subject was sat in a chair quietly with their forearm resting on a table
surface

2The blood pressure and heart rate was checked by using the Blood
Pressure sensor andwas written down in a table.

3.The supine blood pressure and heart rate was checked and written down in
a table.

4.The subject was asked to do continuous squats for one minute, The blood
pressure (B)and heart rate was then taken immediately, for every 1 minute up
to 5 minutes and waswritten down in a table.

B. Human respiratory volume

1.Tidal volume (TV)A)

A)The spirometer dial was set to zero (0). After taking a normal inspiration,
the mouth-piece was placed upon the subject’s mouth and a normal expiration
was exhaled into the spirometer. Conscious effort was made by the subject to
not exceed their normal value.

B)The amount exhaled on the dial was read and written in a table.
C)The respiratory rate per minute was counted by counting the respiratory
cycle for 1minute while the subject was still at seated at the chair

D)To calculate the resting respiratory minute volume, the tidal volume was
multiplied by the respiratory rate per minute

2.Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV)

A)The spirometer dial was set to zero (0).

B)After a normal expiration, the mouth- piece was placed inside the subject’s
mouth and forcefully exhaled as much air as possible into the spirometer.

3.Vital Capacity (VC)

A)The spirometer dial was set at zero (0).

B)Subject was asked to inhale as deeply as possible. A mouthpiece was then

placed in the subject’s mouth while their nose was held and exhaled into the
spirometer with maximum effort.

C)The measurement was repeated 3 times and the largest volume was
recorded in thetable.

4.Inspiratory Reserve Volume (IRV) and Inspiration Capacity (IC)

A)The IRV and IC was calculated from the 3 previous volume measurements

RESULT

A. Blood pressure as a vital sign

Table 1. Blood pressure and heart rate readings

Systolic Diastolic Mean arterial Heart rate

Pressure Pressure pressure (beats/min)
(mmHg) (mmHg) (mmHg)
Sitting on 119 72 88 76
chair
Supine 133 70 91 73
(laying on
back)

Table 2. Blood pressure and heart rate readings response to climb up &
down stairs

Systolic Diastolic Mean arterial Heart rate

Min 1 146 79 94 128
Min 2 124 76 92 117
Min 3 117 74 88 112
Min 4 131 75 94 107
Min 5 116 91 93 104

Table 3. Blood pressure and heart rate readings response to cold water

Systolic Diastolic Mean arterial Heart rate

Pressure Pressure pressure (beats/min)
(mmHg) (mmHg) (mmHg)
30 second 124 61 82 82
60 second 111 61 78 87
90 second 108 58 75 85
120 second 106 58 74 81
150 second 103 51 68 86
180 second 108 53 71 82
B. Human respiratory volume

Table 4. Respiratory volumes

Respiratory volumes Value(mL)

Tidal volume (TV) 540
Inspiratory Reserve Volume (IRV) 260
Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV) 3500
Residual Volume (RV) 1200
Total Lung Capacity (TLC) 5500
Vital Capacity (VC) 4300
Functional Residual Capacity (RFC) 4700
Inspiratory Capacity (IC) 800

Calculation

TV=2500 X 13/60

=540mL

IRV=VC-(TV+ERV)

=4300-(540+3500)

=260mL

IC=IRV+TV

=260+540

=800mL

FRC=RV+ERV

=1200+3500
=4700mL

TLC=TV+IRV+ERV+RV

=540+260 +3500+1200

=5500mL

Discussion

While performing experiment there are some error affect the experiment
changed which when the subject did squats he/she walks around it will get not
accurate value.so the best way to fix it is do not walk after did the squats just
sit on the chair.

A. Blood pressure as a vital sign

I will be asked to sit still on the chair and someone took my systolic pressure,
diastolic pressure and heart rate used blood pressure sensor. The same steps
are used when I was lying on the floor. As we can see in the table 1 my
systolic pressure is higher when I was lying my back on the floor compared to
the systolic pressure when I was sit still on the chair.Next, diastolic pressure
for sitting on the chair higher than lying my back on the floor.Other than
that,Mean arterial pressure for sitting on the chair has lowest than lying my
back on the floor. The last one is heart rate is higher when I was lying my
back on the floor compared to sitting on the chair.maybe the are some error
for the data in table 1.

Next, the subject will be asked for did squats for one minutes and his systolic
pressure, diastolic pressure and heart rate will be measure used and will be
record as in table 1,the subject need to rest one minutes then we need to
measure it again, the same steps are applied until five minutes rest.

Lastly, the last activity is I was held a cup that contain ice for 30 second and
the other group member will took my my systolic pressure, diastolic pressure
and heart rate used blood pressure sensor. The same steps are applied until
180 second(5 times)

B. Human respiratory volume

for the part b I don’t do it because im to tired doing to many activities but I
picked my group member. As we can see in the table 4 vital capacity for him is
lowest than normal person which is 4300mL it should be 4440mL for male and
it will related to the other value as shown in table 4. The best way for him is
keep a balance diet and do exercise.

Conclusion

The objective have been achieve in our experiment. The experiment was
completely did. The heart rate will increase when someone did work or
exercise compared to the stay still.Nest, human respiratory volume should be
normal with adult male and it will be different to all person either male nor
female.
