INTRODUCTION

Meditation
The object of meditation is God our Creator, who
has revealed Himself.

It is written: Think about things that are true,

honest, right, clean and pure, things that are lovely,
and things that are good to talk about. If they are
good, and if they bring praise to God, think about
these things.

Things that are true include God’s Word. In this

book we will think about God, His nature, who He is
like, His teaching, and what the future holds for us
based on His Word. We will also find out how we
may enjoy Him from now on endlessly.

The chief purpose of man

According to the Westminster Catechism, “The
chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him
forever.”

It is possible for us to know our great God and

glorify Him. This book is written so that we may
know this God personally and enjoy Him forever as
His people do.

Since the year 2000, I have realised that this one

life on earth is not enough to serve our great God.

5
31 Days of Meditation

God’s greatness may be understood and

experienced to some extent in the complexity of the
universe and our human body; through the beauty of
people and the variety we find in His creation. God is
the blessed Controller of all things.

As we experience His greatness, we begin to enjoy

His fellowship and friendship. We realise what an
awesome God He is. We are able to enjoy Him
forever, because as His people we are never
separated from Him and His love; physical death
only leads us to His very presence.

May you be blessed as you meditate daily on

God’s Word and obey Him. May He make you a
blessing to many people on earth.

DAY 1

OUR GOD TAKES DELIGHT IN US

Praise the LORD!

Sing to the LORD a new song,
And His praise in the congregation of the godly
ones.
For the LORD takes pleasure in His people;
He will beautify the afflicted ones with salvation.
[Psalm 149: 1, 4 (NASB)]

The LORD longs to be gracious to you,

And therefore He waits on high to have
compassion on you
For the LORD is a God of justice;
How blessed are all those who long for Him.
[Isaiah 30: 18 (NASB)]

The LORD your God is with you,

he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.
[Zephaniah 3: 17]

Prayer: Dear LORD, even though You are very

great, You regard me as precious. I praise You
because You take delight in me. Help me to walk
before You blameless. Amen.

DAY 2

THUS SAYS THE LORD

Thus says the LORD Almighty:

“Be still, and know that I am God;
I will be exalted among the nations,
I will be exalted in the earth.”

[Psalm 46: 10. Our God is so great that no man

can measure His greatness. He is the Person of
greatest honour and holiness in the universe. We
are to be humble when we approach Him. It is
possible to know our great God personally by
meditating on His words and obeying Him. He is
exalted among the various people groups and in the
earth, as His message is spread all over the world.]

“For from the rising of the sun even to its setting,

My name will be great among the nations, and in
every place incense is going to be offered to My
name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My name
will be great among the nations,” says the LORD of
hosts.
[Malachi 1:11 (NASB)]

Thus says the LORD:

“Behold, I am the LORD, the God of all flesh;
is anything too difficult for Me?”
[Jeremiah 32: 27 (NASB). Our God is the God of
all living beings in this world. He is the greatest

8
31 Days of Meditation

Person in the universe. We are all accountable to

Him. Nothing is too hard for Him.]

Thus says the LORD:

“I am the LORD, that is My name;
I will not give My glory to another,
Nor My praise to graven images.”
[Isaiah 42: 8 (NASB) Our Creator does not give His
glory to another person.]

“I desire mercy, not sacrifice,

and acknowledgment of God
rather than burnt offerings.”
[Hosea 6:6]

“I, the LORD, love justice;

I hate robbery and iniquity.”
[Isaiah 61: 8]

Prayer: Dear God, I thank You for Your own

words written for me. You are awesome. I praise
You because You hear my prayer and answer me. I
acknowledge You. As I meditate on You and Your
words, I ask the Spirit of God to inspire me. Amen.

DAY 3

GOD’S NATURE

The LORD your God is God of gods

and Lord of lords,
the great God, mighty and awesome,
who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
He defends the cause of the fatherless
and the widow,
and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.
[Deuteronomy 10: 17-18]

God is not a man, that he should lie,

nor a son of man, that he should change his
mind.
Does he speak and then not act?
Does he promise and not fulfil?
[Numbers 23: 19]

“Who among the gods is like you, O LORD?

Who is like you —
majestic in holiness,
awesome in glory,
working wonders?
The LORD will reign
for ever and ever.”
[Exodus 15:11,18 . Our God rules forever. He is
the King of the universe.]

10
31 Days of Meditation

The LORD hears, sees and disciplines

Does he who implanted the ear not hear?

Does he who formed the eye not see?
Does he who disciplines nations not punish?
Does he who teaches man lack knowledge?
The LORD knows the thoughts of man;
he knows that they are futile.
Blessed is the man you discipline,
O LORD, the man you teach from your law.
[Psalm 94: 9-12 (NIV UK)]

Prayer: O King of the universe, You are above all

human beings. I worship You because you are my
Creator and You rule forever. I praise You for Your
wonderful creation and people. I surrender myself to
You. Amen.

11
31 Days of Meditation

DAY 4

DO NOT WORRY

Cast your burden upon the LORD

and He will sustain you.
[Psalm 55: 22 (NASB)]

Jesus said:
“I tell you this. Do not be troubled
about what you will eat or drink to keep alive.
Do not be troubled
about what you will wear on your body.
Life itself is worth more than food,
and the body is worth more than clothes.

Look at the birds that fly in the air. They do not plant
or cut or keep any food. Yet your Father in heaven
feeds them. Are you not worth more than birds? Can
any one of you live any longer by troubling yourself
about these things?

And why are you troubled about clothes? See how

the flowers grow in the fields. They do not work or
make cloth. I tell you, King Solomon was a great
man. But he was not dressed as fine as one of these
flowers. God dresses the grass in the fields so it
looks nice. It is in the field one day and the next day
it is put on the fire. If God dresses the grass like that,
he cares much more that you have clothes to wear.
You do not believe in God very much!

12
31 Days of Meditation

So then, do not keep asking, “What shall we eat?”

“What shall we drink?” and “What shall we wear?”
It is the people who do not believe in God who work
for all these things.
Your Father in heaven knows that you need them all.
Work first for God’s kingdom and what He calls
good. Then you will have all these things also. So do
not be troubling yourself about tomorrow.
Tomorrow will have its own trouble. Today’s trouble
is enough for today.”
[Matthew 6: 25-34. (WE)]

God himself has said, ‘I will never be away from

you. I will never leave you alone.’
[Hebrews 13: 5b (WE)]

Jesus said, “Are not five sparrows sold for a tiny

sum of money? Yet God does not forget about one
of them. Even the number of hairs on your head is
known. So do not fear. You are worth more than
many sparrows.”
[Luke 12: 6, 7 (WE)]

Prayer: Dear God, if I worry I don’t trust You and

it is sin against You. I believe that You do care for
me and You know my needs. Help me to be
interested in Your affairs and to seek Your Kingdom
and Your righteousness. Amen.

DAY 5

Thanks for the LORD’s Goodness

Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Give thanks to the God of gods,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Give thanks to the Lord of lords,…
To Him who alone does great wonders, …
To Him who made the heavens with skill,…
Who gives food to all flesh,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
Give thanks to the God of heaven,
For His lovingkindness is everlasting.
[Psalm 136:1-5, 25-26 (NASB)]

The LORD Extolled for His Goodness

I will extol You, my God, O King,
And I will bless Your name forever and ever.
Every day I will bless You,
And I will praise Your name forever and ever.
Great is the LORD, and highly to be praised,
And His greatness is unsearchable.
One generation shall praise Your works to another,
And shall declare Your mighty acts.

On the glorious splendour of Your majesty

And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.
Men shall speak of the power of Your awesome acts,
And I will tell of Your greatness.
The LORD is gracious and merciful;

14
31 Days of Meditation

Slow to anger and great in lovingkindness.

The LORD is good to all,
And His mercies are over all His works.
The LORD keeps all who love Him,
But all the wicked He will destroy.
My mouth will speak the praise of the LORD,
And all flesh will bless His holy name
forever and ever.
[Psalm 145: 1-6, 8-9, 20-21. (NASB)]

Prayer: Dear God of gods, You alone do great

wonders. I praise you because You are always good
and give food to all living beings. You love all You
have made. Thank You for Your love for me and all
people. Amen.

DAY 6

TRUSTING IN MAN vs TRUSTING IN GOD

Thus says the LORD,

“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the LORD.
For he will be like a bush in the desert
And will not see when prosperity comes,
But will live in stony wastes in the wilderness,
A land of salt without inhabitant.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD

And whose trust is the LORD.
For he will be like a tree planted by the water,
That extends its roots by a stream
And will not fear when the heat comes;
But its leaves will be green,
And it will not be anxious in a year of drought
Nor cease to yield fruit.
The heart is more deceitful than all else
And is desperately sick;
Who can understand it?
I, the LORD, search the heart,
I test the mind,
Even to give to each man according to his ways,
According to the results of his deeds.”
[ Jeremiah 17: 5-10 (NASB) ]

16
31 Days of Meditation

Thus says the Word of God:

It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in man.
It is better to take refuge in the LORD
than to trust in princes.
[Psalm 118: 8, 9 ]

Jesus said, “Do not let anything trouble your heart.

You believe in God and you must believe in me also.
In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not
so, I would have told you. I am going to make a
place ready for you. If I go to make a place ready for
you, I will come again. I will come to take you so
that you may be with me.”
[John 14: 1-3 (WE)]

Prayer: Maker of heaven and earth, You are great.

Help me not to trust human beings, my riches,
strength, knowledge, power, etc. I trust in You
and Jesus Christ whom You sent for my salvation.
Amen.

17
31 Days of Meditation

DAY 7

WHO IS GOD’S EQUAL?

“To whom will you compare me?

Or who is my equal?” says the Holy One.
Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:
Who created all these?
He who brings out the starry host one by one,
and calls them each by name.
Because of his great power and mighty strength,
not one of them is missing.”
[Isaiah 40: 25,26]

Jesus’ Equality with God

Jesus said:
“Truly, truly, I say to you,
the Son can do nothing of Himself,
unless it is something He sees the Father doing;
for whatever the Father does,
these things the Son also does in like manner.
“For the Father loves the Son,
and shows Him all things that He Himself is doing;
and the Father will show Him greater works than
these, so that you will marvel.
“For just as the Father raises the dead and gives
them life, even so the Son also gives life
to whom He wishes.

18
31 Days of Meditation

“For not even the Father judges anyone,

but He has given all judgment to the Son,
so that all will honour the Son
even as they honour the Father.
He who does not honour the Son
does not honour the Father who sent Him.
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word,
and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life,
and does not come into judgment,
but has passed out of death into life.”
[John 5:19-24. (NASB)]

“I tell you the truth,” Jesus answered,

“before Abraham was born, I am!”
[John 8: 58]

“I and the Father are one.”

[John 10: 30]

Prayer: Dear God, You call each star by name. You

sustain the world. I thank You for Jesus who has
existed from the beginning. The world was made
through Him. He is the coming Judge of all human
beings. Make me ready to face You. Amen.

19
31 Days of Meditation

DAY 8

WISDOM

What is wisdom?
‘The fear of the Lord—that is wisdom,
and to shun evil is understanding.’
[Job 28:28 Wise people are those who honour and
obey the LORD. A person of understanding is one
who avoids evil and does not do it.]

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom;

all who follow his precepts have good
understanding. To him belongs eternal praise.
[Psalm 111:10]

Who is wise?
Jesus said: “Everyone who hears what I say and
obeys me will be like a man who has good sense. He
built his house on a rock. It rained hard. The water in
the rivers came up high. The winds were strong and
beat on the house. But it did not fall down. It was
built on a rock.

But everyone who hears what I say and does not

obey me will be like a man who has no sense. He
built his house on the sand. It rained hard. The water
in the rivers came up high. The winds were strong
and beat on the house. It fell down with a loud
noise!”
[Matthew 7: 24-27 (WE)]

20
31 Days of Meditation

Two kinds of wisdom

Who among you is wise and knows about things? He
should show what he knows by his good life. He will
not be proud because he is wise.

Are you a person who is very jealous? In your hearts

you want to be better than others? Then stop being
proud of yourself. Do not say what is not true.

God did not give you wisdom like that. But it comes
from this world. It comes from people. It comes
from bad spirits.

If people are jealous of others, their lives are not

right. They do every kind of wrong thing to get what
they want. They confuse and upset people.

First of all, when God makes people wise, they are

holy. They do not fight. They are gentle. They listen
to what other people say. They are very kind and do
many good things. They do not quarrel. They do not
say what is not true.

People who do not quarrel have peace. When there

is peace, there is a good life.
[James 3: 13-18 (WE)]

Prayer: Dear God, I have made decisions ignoring

You. Help me to know the difference between good
and evil. Give me wisdom. Help me to obey the
teachings of Jesus Christ and thus be wise. Amen.
21
31 Days of Meditation

DAY 9

RETURN TO THE LORD

Thus says the LORD:

Cease to do evil, learn to do good.
[Isaiah 1: 16 (NASB)]

The Word of God says:

Let the wicked forsake his way
And the unrighteous man his thoughts;
And let him return to the LORD,
And He will have compassion on him,
And to our God,
For He will abundantly pardon.
[Isaiah 55: 6-7 (NIV)]

Joy in Heaven over One Repentant Sinner

The tax collectors and bad people all came close to
Jesus to hear him.
The Pharisees and scribes did not like it. And they
said to each other, ‘This man is glad to have bad
people come. He eats with them.’
So Jesus told them this story.
He said, ‘Which one of you will not do this?
A man has a hundred sheep. He loses one of them.
He leaves the ninety-nine in the wilderness,
and he goes to look for the one that is lost. He looks
until he finds it.
And when he has found it, he is very glad. He carries
it on his back.

22
31 Days of Meditation

When he comes home, he calls his friends and

neighbours to come. He says, “Be glad with me! I
have found my lost sheep.”

‘I tell you, the angels in heaven will be glad like that

when one bad person stops doing wrong things. The
angels will be more glad about that one person than
about ninety-nine good people who do not need to
change their ways.’
[Luke 15:1-7 (WE)]

The LORD Jesus Christ said:

‘The Son of Man came to look for
and to save those who are lost.’
[Luke 19:10 (WE)]

The Scripture says:

God wants all people to be saved
and to know what is true. There is one God.
There is also one man who can open the way
between God and all people.
That man is Christ Jesus.
[1 Timothy 2: 3, 4 (WE)]

Prayer: Dear Father, I have done many things

as I wished. Thank you for Jesus Christ who died
on the cross for me. Forgive me all my sins. I now
receive the Lord Jesus Christ into my heart as my
Saviour and only Lord. Help me to follow Jesus all
the days of my life. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

23
31 Days of Meditation

DAY 10

FOLLOW GOD

Try to be like God, because you are his own dear

children. Love others as Christ has loved us. He
gave his life for us, a sweet smelling offering and a
sacrifice to God.
[Ephesians 5: 1, 2 (WE)]

Be Perfect
You must be good in every way, as your Father in
heaven is good in every way.’
[Matthew 5: 48 (WE)]

Be Holy
God says in the holy writings, ‘You must be holy,
because I am holy.’
[1 Peter 1: 16 (WE)]

Be Merciful
Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
[Luke 6:36]

Forgive
Be kind and compassionate to one another,
forgiving each other,
just as in Christ God forgave you.
[Ephesians 4: 32]

24
31 Days of Meditation

Be Concerned about People

The LORD said [to prophet Moses], “I have indeed
seen the misery of my people in Egypt. I have heard
them crying out because of their slave drivers, and I
am concerned about their suffering. So I have come
down to rescue them from the hand of the Egyptians
and to bring them up out of that land into a good and
spacious land, a land flowing with milk and honey—
the home of the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites,
Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites. And now the cry of
the Israelites has reached me, and I have seen the
way the Egyptians are oppressing them. So now, go.
I am sending you to Pharaoh to bring my people the
Israelites out of Egypt.”
[Exodus 3: 7-10]

[The people of Nineveh, Assyria were enemies of the

people of Israel. God sent the prophet Jonah to
them with a message so that they might repent.]
God said to Jonah, “Nineveh has more than a
hundred and twenty thousand people who cannot tell
their right hand from their left, and many cattle as
well. Should I not be concerned about that great
city?” [Jonah 4: 11]

Prayer: Dear God, You are wonderful. Thank you

for Your concern for me. Jesus Christ is my model
in this world. May I become like You in holiness,
in showing mercy, in forgiving
and in having concern for people. Amen.

25
31 Days of Meditation

DAY 11

FASTING AND PRAYER

Thus says the LORD,

“Is this not the fast which I choose,
To loosen the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the bands of the yoke,
And to let the oppressed go free
And break every yoke?
“Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry
And bring the homeless poor into the house;
When you see the naked, to cover him;
And not to hide yourself from your own flesh?
“Then your light will break out like the dawn,
And your recovery will speedily spring forth;
And your righteousness will go before you;
The glory of the LORD will be your rear
guard.
“Then you will call, and the LORD will answer;
You will cry, and He will say, ‘Here I am’…
Then your light will rise in darkness
And your gloom will become like midday.
“And the LORD will continually guide you,
And satisfy your desire in scorched places,
And give strength to your bones;
And you will be like a watered garden,
And like a spring of water whose waters do
not fail.”
[Isaiah 58: 6-11 (NASB)]

26
31 Days of Meditation

On Prayer

Jesus said:

“When you talk to God, do not say words that mean

nothing, over and over again. People who do not
believe in God do that. They think their god will hear
them because they say many words. Do not be like
them. Your Father knows what you need before you
ask him. So talk to your God like this:
“Our Father in heaven, may your name be
kept holy. May your kingdom come. May
your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us our food for today.
Forgive us for the wrong things we have
done, the way we forgive those who have
done wrong things to us. Do not test us but
help us, so that no one will make us do
wrong. Deliver us from the evil one. The
kingdom and power and praise belong to
you for ever. Amen!”
If you forgive others for the wrong things they have
done, then your Father in heaven will forgive you.”
[Matthew 6:7-17 (WE)]

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for these truths. Let

me have a constant communication with You. Help
me to fast and pray as You desire. Amen.

27
31 Days of Meditation

DAY 12

WORSHIP

The LORD said,

“… this people draw near with their words
And honour Me with their lip service,
But they remove their hearts far from Me,
And their reverence for Me consists of
tradition learned by rote.”
[Isaiah 29:13(NASB)]

Jesus said, ‘Woman, believe what I say. The time

is coming when you will not come to this mountain
or to Jerusalem to worship my Father. You worship
one whom you do not know. But we know whom we
worship. The Saviour will come of the Jews. But the
time is coming, yes, the time is here already, when
those who worship God will worship him in spirit
and in a true way. My Father is looking for that kind
of people to worship him. God is Spirit. Those who
worship him must do so in spirit and in a true way.’
The woman said to Jesus, ‘I know that Messiah is
coming. His name is Christ. When he comes he will
tell us everything.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I who am
talking to you am he.’
[John 4: 20-25 (WE)]

Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the

mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When
they saw him, they worshipped him; but some

28
31 Days of Meditation

doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said,

“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given
to me.” [Matthew 28: 16-20 (NIV UK)]

I, John, your brother and companion in the

suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are
ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because
of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.
On the Lord’s Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard
behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, which said:
Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the
seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum,
Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. I turned
round to see the voice that was speaking to me. And
when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, and
among the lampstands was someone like a son of
man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and
with a golden sash round his chest… His face was
like the sun shining in all its brilliance. When I saw
him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed
his right hand on me and said:
“Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am
the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for
ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and
Hades. Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is
now and what will take place later.”
[Revelation 1: 9-19 (NIV UK)]

Prayer: Dear God, You are awesome. No one can

see You face to face in all Your glory. I worship You
in spirit and in truth. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.

DAY 13

GOOD NEWS FOR ALL

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

I have called you by name; you are Mine!”
“You are My witnesses,” declares the LORD,
“And My servant whom I have chosen,
So that you may know and believe Me
And understand that I am He.
Before Me there was no God formed,
And there will be none after Me.
“I, even I, am the LORD,
And there is no saviour besides Me.”

“I, even I, am the one who wipes out your

transgressions for My own sake,
And I will not remember your sins.”
[Isaiah 43:9-11, 25 (NASB)]

Honour the LORD and you will be blessed and

honoured

How blessed is everyone who fears the LORD,

Who walks in His ways.
When you shall eat of the fruit of your hands,
You will be happy and it will be well with you.
[Psalm 128: 1, 2 (NASB)]

31 Days of Meditation

Thus says the LORD,

Those who honour Me I will honour, and
those who despise Me will be lightly esteemed.
[1 Samuel 2: 30 (NASB)]

Jesus the Messiah says:

“I tell you the truth.
People who do wrong things are not free.
They become a slave of the wrong things they do.
A slave does not belong to the family for ever.
But a son belongs for ever.
So if the Son makes you free, you will be truly free.”
[John 8: 34-36 (WE)]

Prayer: Dear immortal God, I am a slave to the

wrong things I do — a slave to sin. I am not truly
free. You sent Your Son Jesus Christ into the world
so that He can make me free. I now ask You to
remove my love for the wrong things. Take away my
bad desires. Thank You for the freedom You have
given me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

DAY 14

KNOW GOD PERSONALLY

Thus says the LORD:

“Know that there is none like me in all the earth.”
[Exodus 9: 14]

“Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom,

and let not the mighty man boast of his might,
let not a rich man boast of his riches;
but let him who boasts boast of this,
that he understands and knows Me,
that I am the LORD who exercises loving kindness,
justice and righteousness on earth;
for I delight in these things,” declares the LORD.
[Jeremiah 9:23, 24 (NASB)]

Jesus said, ‘Father, you are Lord of heaven and

earth. I thank you because you have hidden these
things from people who are wise and know many
things. But you have shown them to people who are
like children. Yes, Father, that was the way you
wanted it.’ He said, ‘My Father has given everything
to me. No one knows who the Son is but the Father.
No one knows who the Father is but the Son and
those to whom the Son wants to show him.’
The holy writings say, ‘Everyone who calls out to the
Lord will be saved.’
[Romans 10: 12, 13 (WE)]

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one

comes to the Father except through me.” — Jesus
[John 14: 6]

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no

other name [than Jesus] under heaven given to men
by which we must be saved.
[Acts 4: 12]

Jesus said:
You are the only true God. If they know you, and
Jesus Christ whom you sent, they will live for ever.
[John 17: 3 (WE)]
“All you who work hard! All you who carry heavy
loads! Come to me! I will give you rest.
Do what I tell you. Learn what I teach you.
I am gentle. I am not proud.
Then your hearts will rest.
What I tell you to do is easy.
What I give you to carry is not heavy.”
[Matthew 11: 25-30, (WE)]

I have written these things to you who believe on the

name of the Son of God. I have written them so that
you will know that you will live for ever.
[1 John 5: 13 (WE)]

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for opening the way

to Yourself through Jesus Christ. By faith in Jesus
Christ, I come to know Him and You. Amen.

DAY 15

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS

[These were given to us for our good through Moses

and the people of Israel.]
“I am the LORD your God, who brought you out
of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.
“You shall have no other gods before me.
“You shall not make for yourself an idol in the
form of anything in heaven above or on the earth
beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow
down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD
your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children
for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth
generation of those who hate me, but showing love
to thousands of those who love me and keep my
commandments.
“You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your
God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless
who misuses his name.
“Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy…
“Honour your father and your mother, so that you
may live long in the land the LORD your God is
giving you.
“You shall not murder.
“You shall not commit adultery.
“You shall not steal.
“You shall not give false testimony against your
neighbour.

34

“You shall not covet your neighbour’s house. You

shall not covet your neighbour’s wife, or his
manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or
anything that belongs to your neighbour.”
[Exodus 20:1-17]

Jesus refines the law

Jesus said:
You have heard that the law says, “Do not commit
adultery [have another man or woman who is not
your husband or wife].” But I tell you that if a man
looks at a woman and he wants her, then he has
already committed adultery with her in his heart.
‘You have heard that the law says,
“Love your neighbour and hate your enemy.”
But I tell you, love your enemies.
Ask God to do good to those who trouble you.
In that way you will be sons of your Father in
heaven. He makes his sun shine on both wrong and
good people. He lets the rain fall
on people who do right and
on people who do wrong.
[Matthew 5:27, 28, 43-45 (WE). This shows
the holy standards of God and the authority of
Jesus Christ.]

Prayer: Dear God, You are the One who created

me. You are a God of order. Since you love me,
you want me to obey You. I ask Jesus Christ and
the Spirit of God to enable me to obey You. Amen.

DAY 16

WHAT DOES THE LORD WANT US TO DO?

Thus says the LORD:

“Don’t be afraid. And now here’s what I want you
to do:
Tell the truth, the whole truth, when you speak.
Do the right thing by one another, both personally
and in your courts. Don’t cook up plans to take
unfair advantage of others. Don’t do or say what
isn’t so. I hate all that stuff. Keep your lives simple
and honest.”
[Zechariah 8: 15-17 (The Message)]

He has showed you, O man, what is good.

And what does the LORD require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.
[Micah 6: 8]

Thus says the LORD:

“Let justice roll down like waters
And righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.”
[Amos 5: 24 (NASB)]

Thus says the LORD,

“Heaven is My throne and the earth is My
footstool.
Where then is a house you could build for Me?
And where is a place that I may rest?

36

“For My hand made all these things,

Thus all these things came into being,”
declares the LORD.
“But to this one I will look,
To him who is humble and contrite of spirit,
and who trembles at My word.”
[Isaiah 66:1, 2 (NASB)]

Be just and honest

Do not have two differing weights in your bag—
one heavy, one light.
Do not have two differing measures in your house—
one large, one small.
You must have accurate and honest weights and
measures, so that you may live long ….
For the LORD your God detests anyone who does
these things, anyone who deals dishonestly.

[Deuteronomy 25: 13-16. We are to follow the ways

of our God. He hates dishonesty and false
measures. In every nation, traders and business
people must use honest measures. When people
know and follow our just God, nations will progress
and be blessed.]

Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, help me to be

blameless before You. May I humbly walk with You.
May the nations be righteous and be blessed. Amen.

DAY 17

POWER OVER THE WORLD, SIN, SATAN

AND TEMPTATION

Jesus Christ said:

“I give you peace. The world will trouble you
much. But be glad. I have power over the world.”
[John 16: 33 (WE)]

Who wins a victory over the world? It is only

the person who believes that Jesus is the Son of
God.
[1 John 5: 5 (WE)]

Do not love the world or anything in the world.

If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is
not in him. For everything in the world—
the cravings of sinful man,
the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has
and does— comes not from the Father but from the
world. The world and its desires pass away,
but the man who does the will of God lives for ever.
[1 John 2: 15-17 (NIV UK)]

I tell you the truth,

everyone who sins is a slave to sin. Now a slave has
no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs
to it for ever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be
free indeed.
[John 8: 34-36 (NIV UK)]

38

So now those who belong to Christ Jesus will not be

judged.
[Romans 8: 1, 2 (WE)]

God gives peace. He will soon crush Satan under

your feet. May our Lord Jesus Christ bless you.
[Romans 16: 20 (WE)]

No testing has come to you that other people do

not have. But God will not fail you. He will not allow
the testing to be too hard for you. No. When
the testing comes, God will make a way out for you,
so that you can go through the testing.
[1 Corinthians 10: 13 (WE)]

Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial,

because when he has stood the test, he will receive
the crown of life that God has promised to those
who love him. When tempted, no-one should say,
God is tempting me. For God cannot be tempted by
evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is
tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged
away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived,
it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown,
gives birth to death.
[James 1:12-15 (NIV UK)]

Prayer: Our Father, as Jesus overcame the world,

help me to follow Him and have power over the
world, sin, Satan and temptations. Amen.

TO BE HEALTHY

“Worship the LORD your God,

and his blessing will be on your food and water.
I will take away sickness from among you,
and none will miscarry or be barren in your land.
I will give you a full life span.”
[Exodus 23:25, 26]

“If you listen carefully to the voice of the LORD

your God and do what is right in his eyes,
if you pay attention to his commands
and keep all his decrees,
I will not bring on you any of the diseases …,
for I am the LORD, who heals you.”
[Exodus 15: 26]

Praise the LORD, O my soul;

all my inmost being, praise his holy name.
Praise the LORD, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits —
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
[Psalm 103: 1-5]

DAY 19

WAIT ON THE LORD

Thus says the LORD Almighty:

28
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.
29
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.
30
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;
31
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.

[Isaiah 40. The Holy One tells us that He cannot be

compared to any other person or any idol or thing.
If we look at the sky and the heavens at night, we
see billions of stars that have been created by our
great God. He has a name for each of these stars
and He sustains them.
The LORD has no beginning and no end. He
created the entire universe. He does not get tired.
We cannot measure his understanding power —
He knows each of our thoughts. He gives strength

42

to the weak people. Even the young people may

grow tired and fall on the way. But if you keep on
trusting the LORD, you will become strong in all
possible ways. In your spiritual life, you will fly like
eagles.]

Jesus said:
“If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink.
Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said,
streams of living water will flow from within him.”
[John 7: 37, 38]

Prayer: Dear Glorious God, I praise You because

You are not in a hurry. Help me to be patient before
taking any action. May I wait on You and Your
guidance. May I trust You always. Amen.

43

DAY 20

LOVE

Love the LORD your God with all your heart and
with all your soul and with all your strength.
[Deuteronomy 6:5]

Jesus said:
“ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
This is the first and greatest commandment.
And the second is like it:
‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two
commandments.”
[Matthew 22: 37-40]

“A new command I give you: Love one another.

As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
By this all men will know that you are my disciples,
if you love one another.”
[John 13: 34, 35]

Dear friends, let us love one another,

for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has
been born of God and knows God.
Whoever does not love does not know God,
because God is love.

This is how God showed his love among us:

44
31 Days of Meditation

He sent his one and only Son into the world that we
might live through him.
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved
us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our
sins.
[1 John 4: 7-10 (NIV UK)]

Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue

but with actions and in truth.
[1 John 3: 18 (NIV UK)]

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous.

Love is not proud and does not boast.
Love does not do things that are not nice. Love
does not just think of itself. Love does not get angry.
Love holds no wrong feelings in the heart.
Love is not glad when people do wrong things. But
it is always glad when they do right.
Love forgives everything. Love is always trusting,
and always hoping, and never gives up.
Love never ends.
[1 Corinthians 13:4-9 (WE)]

Prayer: Dear loving and holy God, You took the

initiative to love me and send Jesus Christ into the
world to be a model for each human being. The
Scripture says that You love me with an everlasting
love. Jesus Christ even while dying on the cross
loved His enemies because He prayed for them:
“Father, forgive them for they do not know what
they do”. Fill me with Your love. Amen.

DAY 21

THE LORD CARES FOR US

The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed,

a stronghold in times of trouble.
[Psalm 9: 9. The oppressed people are to go to our
God. He alone can change their condition. In
times of trouble, they are to seek Him and hold on to
Him.]

Sing to God, sing praise to his name,

extol him who rides on the clouds —
his name is the LORD—
and rejoice before him.
A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows,
is God in his holy dwelling.
[Psalm 68: 4, 5]

Thus says the LORD,

“Can a woman forget her nursing child
And have no compassion on the son of her
womb?
Even these may forget, but I will not forget you.
“Behold, I have inscribed you on the palms of My
hands…”
[Isaiah 49:15, 16(NASB)]

Though my father and mother forsake me,

the LORD will receive me.
[Psalm 27: 10]

46
31 Days of Meditation

Turn all your troubles over to him,

because he cares for you and is watching over you.
[1 Peter 5: 7 (WE)]

Jesus said:
“All that the Father gives me will come to me, and
whoever comes to me I will never drive away.”
[John 6: 37]

“I know the plans I have for you,”

declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not
to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Then you will call upon me and come
and pray to me, and I will listen to you.
You will seek me and find me
when you seek me with all your heart.”

[Jeremiah 29: 11-13]

Prayer: Dear God of compassion, even though You

are great, You do care for me and have good plans
for me. You care for the neglected and downtrodden
as well as those with no hope. Thank You for Your
personal interest in me. So may I give all the honour
and glory to You, and not to anybody or anything
else. Help me to rely on You alone. In Jesus’ name.
Amen.

DAY 22

WHAT ARE WE TO DO?

Fear God and keep his commandments,

for this is the whole duty of man.
For God will bring every deed into judgment,
including every hidden thing,
whether it is good or evil.
[Ecclesiastes 12:13,14]

People asked him, “What must we do to do the

works God requires?”
Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe
in the one he has sent.”
[John 6: 28,29 (WE). To believe in Jesus Christ is to
do God’s work. God requires all of us to believe in
Jesus.]

Thus says the Word of God:

Delight yourself in the LORD
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
[Psalm 37: 4]

This is what the LORD Almighty says:

‘Administer true justice;
show mercy and compassion to one another.
Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless,
the alien or the poor.
In your hearts do not think evil of each other.’
[Zechariah 7: 9, 10]

Jesus said:
“If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you.
This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much
fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”
[John 15: 7, 8]

Prayer: Dear God, You are always good. You sent

Jesus Christ from heaven and He lived a blameless
life. He never sinned. Through Him, You have
provided a way for me to know You personally.
Now I put my trust in Jesus Christ, since You want
me to. Amen.

A RIGHTEOUS GOD

“It is I who made the earth, and created man upon it

I stretched out the heavens with My hands
And I ordained all their host.
I, the LORD, speak righteousness,
Declaring things that are upright.
A righteous God and a Saviour;
There is none except Me.
“Turn to Me and be saved, all the ends of the earth;
For I am God, and there is no other.”
[Isaiah 45:12, 22 (NASB)]

God’s Omnipresence and Omniscience

O LORD, You have searched me and known me.
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
You understand my thought from afar.
You scrutinize my path and my lying down,
And are intimately acquainted with all my
ways.
Even before there is a word on my tongue,
Behold, O LORD, You know it all.
You have enclosed me behind and before,
And laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
It is too high, I cannot attain to it.
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?

If I ascend to heaven, You are there;

If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are
there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
Even there Your hand will lead me,…
For You formed my inward parts;
You wove me in my mother’s womb.
I will give thanks to You,
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Wonderful are Your works,
And my soul knows it very well.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxious thoughts;
And see if there be any hurtful way in me,
And lead me in the everlasting way.
[Psalm 139: 1-10, 13-14, 23-24 (NASB)]

Prayer: Dear righteous God, help me to do the right

thing always for Your glory. You hate sin. May I
also hate the wrong things. Amen.

DAY 24

GOD’S WORD

“My thoughts are not your thoughts,

Nor are your ways My ways,”
declares the LORD.
“For as the heavens are higher than the earth,
So are My ways higher than your ways
And My thoughts than your thoughts.
“For as the rain and the snow come down from
heaven,
And do not return there without watering the
earth
And making it bear and sprout,
And furnishing seed to the sower
and bread to the eater;
So will My word be
which goes forth from My mouth;
It will not return to Me empty,
Without accomplishing what I desire,
And without succeeding in the matter
for which I sent it.”
[Isaiah 55: 8-11 (NASB)]

All Scripture is God-breathed

and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped
for every good work.
[2 Timothy 3: 16, 17]

52
31 Days of Meditation

Christ is God and by his own power he has given us

everything that we need to live and to please God.
He has given this to us because we know him, and he
has called us because he is great and good. Because
of these things, he has promised us things that are
worth very much and are very great. He has
promised these things to us so that by them you may
become like God too. By them you will be kept free
from the selfish desires of the people in the world.
These desires lead to death.
[2 Peter 1: 3,4 (WE)]

Jesus prayed:
“Make them clean by the true word and keep them
for yourself. Your word is true.”
[John 17: 17 (WE)]

Jesus said:
“You are already clean because of the word I have
spoken to you. If you remain in me and my words
remain in you, ask whatever you wish,
and it will be given you. This is to my Father’s glory,
that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be
my disciples.”
[John 15: 3, 7, 8 (NIV UK)]

You have preserved all these years. Sanctify me
as I obey Your words. May I be fit for Your service.
Amen.

DAY 25

THE IMPORTANCE OF GOD’S WORD

Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your

mouth; meditate on it day and night,
so that you may be careful to do everything written in
it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
[Joshua 1: 8]

Oh, how I love your law!

I meditate on it all day long.
Your commands make me wiser than my enemies,
for they are ever with me.
I have more insight than all my teachers,
for I meditate on your statutes.
I have more understanding than the elders,
for I obey your precepts.
I have kept my feet from every evil path
so that I might obey your word.
[Psalm 119:97-101]

“All men are like grass,

and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.
7
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
because the breath of the LORD blows on
them.
Surely the people are grass.
8
The grass withers and the flowers fall,
but the word of our God stands forever.”

DAY 26

SACRIFICE OF PRAISE

I have no need of a bull from your stall

or of goats from your pens,
for every animal of the forest is mine,
and the cattle on a thousand hills.
I know every bird in the mountains,
and the creatures of the field are mine.
… the world is mine, and all that is in it.
Do I eat the flesh of bulls
or drink the blood of goats?
Sacrifice thank offerings to God,
fulfil your vows to the Most High, …
He who sacrifices thank offerings honours me,
and he prepares the way
so that I may show him the salvation of God.
[Psalm 50: 9-15, 23]

Let us always give a sacrifice of praise to God

through Jesus. We do it by thanking him for all that
he has done and also by talking about him. That is
the sacrifice we make with our lips to his name.
[Hebrews 13: 15 (WE)]

O clap your hands, all peoples;

Shout to God with the voice of joy.
For the LORD Most High is to be feared,
A great King over all the earth.

Sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the King of all the earth;
Sing praises with a skilful psalm.
God reigns over the nations,
God sits on His holy throne.

The princes of the people have assembled

the shields of the earth belong to God; He is highly

DAY 27

THERE IS HOPE FOR US

He raises the poor from the dust

and lifts the needy from the ash heap;
he seats them with princes,
with the princes of their people.
He settles the barren woman in her home
as a happy mother of children.
Praise the LORD.
[Psalm 113:7-9. Our God uplifts the poor and seats
them with great people. Through Him, the childless
woman becomes a happy mother of children.]

Never give up asking God

Jesus told them a story to teach them that they
should keep on talking with God and not give up.

He said, ‘There was a judge in a city. He did not

respect God or care about people.
There was a woman in that city whose husband was
dead. The woman came to the judge again and again.
She said, “Save me from my enemy!”
For a long time he would not do it.
But after a time he said, “I do not respect God or
care about people. But this woman is troubling me.
So I will save her from her enemy. If I do not, she
will keep coming until I am tired.”

The Lord said, ‘The judge was a bad man. And yet
you should listen to what he says.
When the people whom God has chosen call to
him day and night, he will save them from their
enemies. He may let them wait a time.
But I tell you, he will save them from their enemies
soon. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find
any people who believe in him?’
[Luke 18:1-8 (WE)]

Jesus said:
‘Ask, and you will get what you ask for.
Look, and you will find what you look for.
Knock, and the door will be opened for you.
Everyone who asks will get.
The one who looks will find.
And the one who knocks will have the door opened
for him.’

Prayer: I praise You, Father, because You are on

the throne. You are the King of the Universe. May
all the people of this world realise this great truth and
rejoice in You. Amen.

DAY 28

SIGNS OF THE END OF THE AGE

Jesus said, ‘Take care. Do not let anyone fool you.

Many men will come in my name. They will say, “I
am Christ.” ... Do not go after them. When you hear
about wars and fighting, do not fear. These things
must happen first, but it is not the end right away.’
Then he said, ‘One tribe will fight against another
tribe. And one country will fight against another
country.
In some places the earth will shake very much. In
many places the people will have no food to eat. And
many people will be sick. There will be things to
make people fear. There will be big signs in the sky.
‘But before all these things happen, people will
catch you and trouble you. They will take you to the
meeting houses to be judged. They will put you in
prison. They will take you to kings and rulers
because you are true to me. This will be a chance for
you to talk about me...
I will give you words and sense. All those who are
against you will not be able to answer your words or
say they are not true. Even your parents, brothers,
family people, and friends will give you over to
trouble. They will kill some of you.
All people will hate you because you are true to
me. But you will not lose one hair from your heads.
If you keep on being true to me, you will live for
ever.’

60

‘There will be signs in the sun, moon, and stars.

And there will be much trouble for the people on
earth...It will be like the sound of big waves of the
sea. Men will be weak with fear. They will be afraid
of the things that will be happening to the world. The
powers in the sky will be shaken.
Then people will see the sign of the Son of Man in
a cloud. He will have much power and will be very
great. When these things begin to happen, look up.
Lift up your heads. You will soon be free.’
Jesus told them a story. He said, ‘Look at a fig
tree. Look at all the trees. As soon as you see the
leaves coming, you know that it will soon be the
warm time of the year. It is the same way when you
see all these things happening. You will know that the
kingdom of God is near. I tell you the truth. People
who are living then will not die before all these things
happen. The sky and the earth will pass away, but
my words will not pass away.’
‘But take care. Do not think too much about
eating, drinking, and things in this life. If you do, that
day will come and catch you like a trap. That day
will come to all people who are living on the whole
earth. Watch all the time. Ask God to make you
strong to do right so that you will not go through all
these things that are going to happen. Ask him to
make you able to stand in front of the Son of Man.’
[Luke 21:8-36 (WE)]

Prayer: Dear Father in heaven, I thank You for

Jesus’ warnings. May I always be ready for the
Second Coming of Jesus Christ. Amen.

DAY 29

THE MESSIAH

His Coming Foretold

The LORD said to Prophet Moses: “I will raise up
a prophet from among their countrymen like you,
and I will put My words in his mouth, and he shall
speak to them all that I command him. It shall come
about that whoever will not listen to My words
which he shall speak in My name, I Myself will
require it of him.”
[Deuteronomy 18: 18, 19 (NASB)]

His Suffering Foretold

He was despised and rejected by men, a man of
sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from
whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we
esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities
and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him
stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was
crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that
brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds
we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray,
each of us has turned to his own way; and the
LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. He
was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his
mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as
a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not
open his mouth.

62
31 Days of Meditation

... For the transgression of my people he was

stricken. He was assigned a grave with the wicked,
and with the rich in his death, though he had done no
violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it was
the LORD’s will to crush him and cause him to
suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt
offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his
days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his
hand.
After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light
of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my
righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear
their iniquities. Therefore I will give him a portion
among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the
strong, because he poured out his life unto death,
and was numbered with the transgressors. For he
bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the
transgressors. [Isaiah 53: 3-12 (NIV UK). These
words were written about 700 years before Christ.]

A promised ruler from Bethlehem

You, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small
among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for
me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins
are from of old, from ancient times.
[Micah 5:2 (NIV UK). This was promised about
700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ.]

Prayer: Thank You, God, for Jesus’ death and

resurrection. He thus proved Himself to be the Son
of God. Amen.

DAY 30

KINGDOM, RESURRECTION, ASCENSION

AND SECOND COMING

Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it

were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest
by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another
place.”
“You are a king, then!” said Pilate.
Jesus answered, “You are right in saying I am a
king. In fact, for this reason I was born,
and for this I came into the world, to testify to the
truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”
[John 18: 36, 37 (NIV UK)]

The Empty Tomb – Jesus the risen Saviour

Early on the first day of the week, while it was still
dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that
the stone had been removed from the entrance. So
she came running to Simon Peter and the other
disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “They have
taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know
where they have put him!” So Peter and the other
disciple started for the tomb. Both were running,
but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the
tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips
of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon
Peter, who was behind him, arrived and went into the
tomb. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well
as the burial cloth that had been around Jesus’ head.

64
31 Days of Meditation

The cloth was folded up by itself, separate from the

linen. Finally the other disciple, who had reached the
tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.
[John 20: 1-8 (NIV UK)]
Jesus came and talked to them. He said, ‘All
power in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
So go and make disciples in all countries. Baptise
them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and
of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to do all the things I
have told you to do. I am with you always, even to
the end of time.’
[Matthew 28: 18-20 (WE)]
Jesus said: ‘When the Holy Spirit comes upon
you, you will receive power. You will speak of me in
Jerusalem and all around in Judea and Samaria and
everywhere in the world.’ When Jesus had said this,
he went up. They watched him going. Then a cloud
hid him, and they did not see him any more. While
they were looking at the sky as he went up, two men
stood by them in white clothes.
They said, ‘You men from Galilee, why do you
stand there looking at the sky? Jesus has gone up
into heaven. In the same way that you saw him go
up, he will come again.’
[Acts of the Apostles 1: 8-11 (WE) Jesus’ death
and resurrection are historical facts. Anything
contrary to these is not from God.]

Prayer: Dear God, I praise You because Jesus

Christ is incomparable. May His Kingdom come on
earth. Amen.

DAY 31

THE GLORY

Think the same way Jesus Christ thought. He was

in every way like God. Yet he did not think that being
equal to God was something he must hold on to. He
gave this up and became a servant. He was born a
baby. And when he was a man, he was humble. He
was even willing to die, yes, to die on a cross. That
is why God has made him very great. God has given
him a name above every name. Everyone in heaven,
everyone on earth, and everyone under the earth will
kneel before the name of Jesus. Everyone will admit
that Jesus Christ is Lord. They will praise God the
Father for this.
[Philippians 2: 5-11 (WE)]

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the

first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and
there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the
new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from
God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her
husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne
saying,
“Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will
live with them. They will be his people, and God
himself will be with them and be their God. He will
wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no
more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old
order of things has passed away.”

66
31 Days of Meditation

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am

making everything new! Then he said, Write this
down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the
Omega, the Beginning and the End. To him who is
thirsty I will give to drink without cost from the
spring of the water of life. He who overcomes will
inherit all this, and I will be his God and he will be
my son.”
I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord
God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city
does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for
the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its
lamp.
The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of
the earth will bring their splendour into it. On no day
will its gates ever be shut, for there will be no night
there. The glory and honour of the nations will be
brought into it.
Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone
who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only
those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book
of life. [Revelation 21: 1-7; 22-27 (NIV UK) These
things will surely happen. To know more about the
future of the world, the Antichrist, and Jesus’ 1000-
year rule, please read ‘Revelation’ in the Bible.]

Prayer: Dear Father, I thank You for the glorious

future of His people through Jesus Christ. Help me
to rejoice in You and prepare others for Your
Kingdom. Amen.

GOD HAS SPOKEN TO ME

In 1977 I became a research scholar in Computer

Science at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur
for my Ph.D. degree. I finished certain courses and
examinations. Then I started doing my research on a
topic, which was of interest then in Computational /
Numerical Methods.
My research was concerned with a technique
devised by the Argentinian astronomer Zadunaisky
(1973). He wanted to find improved solutions to
certain types of problems in astronomy. He applied
the technique to find solutions of ordinary differential
equations and obtained very good results.
To start with, I applied the Zadunaisky technique
to partial differential equations. But strangely, the
technique did not produce improved results. I then
tried it with various options. In hundreds of trials I
met with failure. Then I applied the technique to
another type of equations, namely integral equations.
When I used the technique with a suitable option, the
solution was greatly improved. I praised God.
During my research, I very rarely got help from my
supervisor. He asked me to write, in collaboration
with another colleague, a technical report on the
results I had obtained. This colleague was not
helpful, even though I trusted him for his help.
Since this was the first time I was producing a
report, I badly needed help.

68
31 Days of Meditation

One day, after discussion with the colleague, I was

cycling home very sad, wondering whether there was
anyone to help me. Suddenly I heard a voice
fromheaven: “Why don’t you trust Me?” I could
see no one near me.
I then started trusting God regarding my thesis.
(When I was 14, I had received forgiveness of my
sins through trust in Jesus Christ and His work on
the cross.) Later I read in the Bible: God is exalted
in His power. Who is a teacher like Him? I was
greatly encouraged. With the help of the colleague,
I produced the technical report.
By God’s grace, I then combined the technique of
Zadunaisky with that of Richardson (1927) and
obtained fantastically good results. God helped me
to find theoretical results confirming the numerical
solutions. Shortly afterwards, I combined the
Zadunaisky technique with that of Fox (1947) to
obtain a new method of iterative improvement for
the numerical solution of differential and integral
equations. I was also able to combine all the three
techniques mentioned above. My thesis came to
fruition when I trusted God for results. Glory be to
Him.
I taught Computer Science at the Banaras Hindu
University, Varanasi, and later at the Institute of
Public Enterprise, Hyderabad. I became more
interested in God’s work than in Computer Science.
I was willing to serve God by resigning from a
teaching position. However, I was worried as to
how I would provide for my family. Early one

69
31 Days of Meditation

morning, God spoke to me: “Seek first God’s

Kingdom and His righteousness, and all these
(necessary) things will be given to you as well.”
I praised God that He spoke to me and learned to
trust Him in the area of finance. Since God Himself
spoke to me, I decided to seek His Kingdom and His
righteousness. I joined a Christian mission in 1993.
Since then God has provided for us in wonderful
ways. He has blessed our family and ministry. We
have edited and published a bimonthly newsletter
News for Praise and Prayer that contains world
Christian news, since 1990. This newsletter is based
on the theme: The earth will be filled with the
knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters
cover the sea. Habakkuk 2: 14.
God has revealed more of Himself to me, and it is
wonderful to know His greatness and to worship
Him. This is my prayer: May the peoples praise
you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.
Early in one morning, God woke me up by
reminding me of the song:

Father / Jesus / Spirit, we love you,

We worship and adore you,
Glorify your name in all the earth;
Glorify your name, glorify your name,
Glorify your name in all the earth.

My life’s goal is contained in the above song.

I praise God for having given me a purpose in my
life, and for His guidance and leading.

No man spoke like this Man

Jesus Christ came from heaven and God. He taught

mankind spiritual and everlasting truths about
God, His kingdom, Satan, heaven, hell, etc.
For example, He said that hell is prepared for
the Devil and his angels. There is great joy in
heaven over one sinner when he repents and turns
to God.
