On 15th August 2017, the Nature Club of SMK Batu 5 Jeniang
organised a beach clean-up programme at Tanjung Dawai beach. The programme was a success and the participants learned about the importance of keeping our beach clean.
30 members of Nature Club participated in the programme
under the supervision of Cikgu Rosli Bin Ramli, the teacher advisor. The 30 students were divided in ten groups consisting of 10 members in a group and a group leader was appointed for every group. The leaders’ responsibility is to distribute the cleaning equipment such as rakes, hoe, gunny sacks and spades.
Each group was designated areas at the beach to be cleaned.
The members of Nature Club were enthusiastic in carrying out their duties. A lot of rubbish such as soft drink cans, polystyrenes, newspapers, burnt woods, plastics and food wrappers were collected. Nature Club believes in recycling and therefore once they reach school, they separated the waste and put them in different recycling bins. The remaining rubbish was put in the gunny sack and was collected by the Municipal Council.
After 4 hours of hard work, the members were satisfied and
proud of their work. The unpolluted beach looked spotless. Before heading back to school, they sat and enjoyed the scenery of nature by the beach. Around 4.30, they went back to school.
