Read and answer the following question !


1. In audio-lingual method, the use of drills and pattern practices are various. Brooks (1964)
proposed 12 kinds of drills. Meanwhile, in Total Physical Response, language mastery is
related to brain lateralization and reduction of stress. However, both methods primarily
focus on listening comprehension and speech production. Based on their characteristics
and activity types, explain the differences of these methods at least five points!

According to the descriptors above, design a set of activities, materials and classroom
procedure for one meeting using the principles of competency-based language teaching !
3. Cooperative/collaborative language learning essentially involves the students learning
form each other in group. Olsen and Kagan (1992) describe five key elements in
cooperative learning. Explain them briefly! Give examples as support.
4. Mr. Allan is teacher at one SMP in Jakarta. He teaches English in 35 student class with
mixed ability. In the next three months, the students will take national examination to
continue their study. According to you,
a. Which method (you have learnt) do you think would help him teach English best?
b. Give your reasons
c. Mention also the classroom procedure he should apply
