Accidental machine starting can cause injury or death to personnel working on the machine.

To avoid accidental machine starting, turn the bat- tery disconnect switch to the OFF position and re- move the key. If the machine is not equipped with a battery disconnect switch, disconnect the bat- tery cables from the battery and tape the battery clamps.

Place a do not operate tag at the battery discon- nect switch location to inform personnel that the machine is being worked on.

a. Remove the tandem charge pump. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Tandem Charge Pump - Remove.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

NOTICE Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, test- ing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before open- ing any compartment or disassembling any compo- nent containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, “Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide” for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pres- sure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Seri- ous injury can be caused if this pressure is not re- leased before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

1. Drain the hydraulic system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. The capacity of the hydraulic system is 181.7 L (48 US gal).

Measure the distance from the top of the surface plate to the top of Tooling (G). Record this dimension as Dimension (X). Measure the distance from the top of Tooling (G) to the top of retainer plate (25). Record this dimension as Dimension (W).

CALCULATION

Subtract Dimension (W) from Dimension (X) in order to obtain Dimension (Y).

Dimension (Y) is the Lift Off Height.

Note: The correct Lift Off height is 108.7+0.0 0.2 mm (4.2795+0.0 0.0079 inch) for standard machines and 117.4+0.0 0.2 mm (4.6220+0.0 0.0079 inch ) for narrow gauge machines. Call this height Dimension (Z).

Removal Procedure

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

NOTICE Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, test- ing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before open- ing any compartment or disassembling any compo- nent containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guidefor tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.

b e r Part Description Q t y A 138-7573 Link Bracket 1 Personal injury can

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pres- sure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Seri- ous injury can be caused if this pressure is not re- leased before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been low- ered, oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the en- gine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Note: Put identification marks on all lines, on all hoses, on all wires, and on all tubes for installation purposes. Plug all lines, hoses, and tubes. This helps to prevent fluid loss and this helps to keep contaminants from entering the system.
