TEEN CLASSES
TEENS GETTING INSPIRED
Instructor: Maggie Kerrigan
Sun., 2/11, 2:00 to 4:00 pm Ages 13-17
Tuition: $30 Members: $25
Skill Level: All
We will study the style and techniques of a free contemporary artists. Students will choose one to emulate while creating a new, original
work of art. All supplies are provided. Kids should wear a painting shirt/smock to protect clothing.

ADULT CLASSES
ABSTRACTION IN WATERMEDIA ON ALTERNATIVE SURFACES
Instructor: Laura Gibbs
Thurs., 2/1, 2/8, 2/15, 2/22, 2:00 pm to 4:30 pm Ages 18 and up
Tuition: $110.00 Members: $100
Skill Level: Beginner
Participants will learn about materials, surface, application and lifting techniques for use with their chosen surface. Students may work with
Yupo synthetic paper or watercolor paper that has been coated in acrylic gesso or acrylic matt medium. (If you have old watercolor paintings
that you don’t wish to finish, they may be coated in gesso and then used for this class.) We will use these skills to explore non-
representational painting in watercolor and gouache along with ink, watercolor crayons and/or watercolor pencils. Students may also work
with simple landscapes or still life (please bring reference materials)
Supplies: Watercolor paint (any that you usually use are fine, however, fresh from the tube works best), gouache, watercolor crayons and/or
pencils. Instructor will have student grade paints, crayons and pencils to get you started if you don’t have these materials initially. You will also
need brushes, water container, palette, a support to paint on, and paper towels. We will use various materials (stamps, stencils etc.) to lift paint, so
if you have anything that you wish to use, please bring them with you. We will also use 3” yellow foam rollers which will be available for purchase at
class or you may bring 2 with you. You will also need surfaces to paint on –a pad of Yupo (9x12 or 11x14) the gallery also sells this by the sheet,
watercolor paper coated in either acrylic gesso or matt medium. Students are welcome to try all three.

REALISTIC WATERCOLOR PORTRAITS: CHILD


Instructor: Kathy Staicer
Wed.,3/7, Wed., 3/14, Sat. 3/24, & Wed. 3/28 Ages 18 and up
Tuition: $220 Members: $200
Skill Level: Beginner
Kathy will teach her way of painting portraits utilizing the techniques for capturing a likeness: getting an accurate drawing, layering colors,
softening edges and developing values by painting around the highlights and deepening the shadows. She will share the ways she has learned
to a capture a feeling for the person that she is painting. She will bring in an image to transfer and work from.
Supplies: Bring your basic watercolor supplies. Watercolor Paints*, watercolor palette with large mixing area, small, medium and large round
watercolor brush, 1 inch wash brush, ¼ or ½ inch angle brush, 1/4 sheet of Arches cold pressed 300 lb. paper (if you do not have one Kathy
can sell you one), paper towels, tissues, HB pencil, kneaded eraser, white plastic eraser, thin ball point red pen, transfer paper, 2 water
containers.
*My favorite portrait colors are: Winsor Yellow or Aureolin Yellow, New Gamboge, Yellow Ochre, Opera Rose, Rose Madder, Scarlet Lake,
Alizarin Crimson, Cobalt Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Paynes Grey or Indigo Blue, Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber.
Bring a notebook and a positive learning attitude.

PAINT YOUR PET


Instructor: Amber Angeloni
Sat., 3/24, 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Ages 18 and up
Tuition: $70 Members: $60
Skill Level: Beginner
Provide your pet's photo in advance and the instructor will sketch it on a 16x20 canvas for you. Then come ready to learn how to complete your
painting step by step. All art supplies will be provided. Once you have registered, email your pet photo to amberlangeloni@gmail.com by March
10, 2018.
Supplies: High quality photo of your pet in good lighting, all other supplies provided

COLOR
Instructor: Carole Peirson
Wed. 4/11, 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Ages 18 and up
Tuition: $135 Members: $125
Skill Level: All
The workshop “Color” will deal with the characteristics and organization of colors, how to see colors accurately and how to use color most
effectively in artwork. Color mixing will be part of the workshop as well as various examples of color schemes for paintings and how to
translate a value plan into color. Carole’s workshops will be 1-day in-depth workshop with the emphasis on learning from existing theories,
clear examples, exercises, demonstrations and hand-outs. Goal is not to go home with a finished painting, but to study and practice and
improve the ability to see & paint a subject more accurately and effectively in order to create paintings with more impact.

PAINTING ON LOCATION
Instructor: Jean Hearst

Students will learn how to use soft pastels to capture the immediacy of light, shadow, and color en plein air. Jeanie will share her rationale for
choosing a subject within a landscape, methods for rendering a composition, and capturing light and shadow as it is changing.
Supplies: Soft pastels (preferable Sennelier, unison, or other good quality pastel) and some Nu pastels, if you have them, or harder chalk
pastels. A support for your pastel paper (foam board from the Dollar Tree works well). Vine charcoal and/or pastel pencils. Drop cloth
(disposable plastic table cloth from Dollar Tree is fine). 9X12 colored Art Spectrum paper will be supplied; however, you may bring your own
favorite paper if you wish. Easel or lawn chair

Vinnie will meet with you prior to your class to discuss what you want to work on. He will observe your artistic process and make
suggestions on how you can improve it as well as talk about marketing and selling and reaching your audience .

PRIVATE REALISTIC WATERCOLOR CLASSES

If you are a total beginner or have previous watercolor experience Kathy will help you zero in on the area that you want to work on. Bring a
friend and enjoy the experience together. You will have homework based on what was done in the class and Kathy will review it in the
