DBT Partnership Programme for Skill Development in Biotechnology

Department of Biotechnology has proposed to start programme for upgradation of skills of


college teachers (Undergraduate) engaged in biotechnology education and research, Skill
Development Programmes for school pass outs and undergraduates students for various
job perspectives in the Biotech industries and entrepreneurship development programme for
students who propose to set up their own enterprises.

Scheme Details: The scheme details are as follows:

(A) DBT Partnership Skill Development Centre: There is no need to create a de-novo
new Centre. An existing university or Institute/organization/ laboratory could be suitably
modified and strengthened to act as a Centre. This centre will be expected to create a
network by developing strong linkages with top academic institutions and research
laboratories. The core activities of the Centre will be:

 Study of demand and supply of trained skilled manpower in the State and
identification of gaps for initiating new pogrammes.
 Study of available skill development programmes in the country and overseas and
to adapt and adopt a suitable model.
 To prepare a plan for training of teachers, students and entrepreneurs, decide
curriculum, duration.
 Identification of experts and partner institutes for conducting specific technique
based skill development programmes, entrepreneurship development programmes
and faculty improvement programmes.
 Conduct faculty improvement programmes (2 weeks duration, preferably in
vacations) as per the curriculum prescribed by the universities in the State.
 Conduct skill development programme (3 to 6 months) for school pass outs and
undergraduate students.
 Conduct entrepreneurship development programmes (2 weeks) in collaboration with
industry associations and concerned State Industrial Development Corporation.
 Scheme has to be aligned with standards of National Skill Development Corporation
(NSDC) and Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council (LSSSDC) for
certification of proposed Skill Development Programme in Biotechnology.

(B) Partner Institutes: Activities of partner institutes will be as follows:

 Conduct faculty improvement programmes (2 weeks duration, preferably in


vacations) as per the curriculum prescribed by the universities in the State.
 Conduct skill development programme (3 to 6 months) for school pass outs and
undergraduate students of Biotechnology.
 Conduct entrepreneurship development programmes (2 weeks) in collaboration with
industry associations and state industrial development corporation.
(C) Who can apply
 University, Training Institute, Research Institute, State Councils/organization with
proven track record of conducting teaching/ training programmes in Biotechnology.
 The scheme is intended for universities /institutions/organization which have
substantial infrastructure, expertise and experience in teaching and training so that
strengthening of infrastructure would improve the quality of training imparted.
 The identified institution should have requisite networking and linkages with other
academic and research institutions to take advantage of existing expertise.
 The institution should be eligible for receiving Govt. grants/funds Evidence of
successful (technical and financial) implementation of minimum two projects funded
by any Govt. agency should be attached.

(D) How to apply:


 Complete postal address with email ID and phone/mobile numbers of Head of
organisation and coordinator for the programme should be mentioned.
 Consolidated proposal having details of Centre and partners should be submitted.
 The pages should be numbered and the proposal format should be in “Times New
Roman”, Font Size 12 with single spacing.
 There should be no colour photographs in the proposal. The proposal should be in
spiral binding as hard bound proposal is not required. The proposal should be printed
back to back to save paper.
 8 hardcopies of duly filled proforma, (printed on both side and should not be hard
bound) along with the soft copy (in MS Word format) should be sent to

 The last date for submission of applications in the prescribed proforma is 30
November, 2017.
 Incomplete applications shall not be entertained.
