Academic Accreditation

(EAB). Under Washington Accord (WA), degrees are recognized by

1A limited selection of GE modules which can best meet the interests and professional needs of BTech students, will
be offered specially in the evenings. Refer to SCALE website for the list of modules.

3 UEMs enable students to pursue their interests without any restrictions. Students may select any module at any
level from among Technical or GE modules to meet this requirement.

Note:
The limit on Level-1000 modules to be counted towards fulfilment of graduation requirements is 40 MCs.

Programme schedule
● Academic Calendar comprises a total of 3 terms:
 2 regular semesters (Aug-Dec, Jan-May)

 Special Term (May-Jul)

● Workload:
 3 modules per regular semester

 2 modules in Special Term

● Class Schedule:
 One evening class (lecture/tutorial) per module per week (6pm to
9.30pm) on weekdays. Lab session, if any, will be on separate
evenings.

 Occasionally, Saturday mornings/afternoons

Candidature period for
Bachelor of Technology
● Normal candidature: the duration that students are normally expected
to take to complete the degree programme.

 4.5 years

● Maximum candidature: the maximum duration that students can be


given to complete the degree programme, failing which a student’s
candidature will be terminated.

 6 years

CAP for Continuation
and Graduation Requirement

For students admitted from AY2016/2017 onwards:

 Graduation: a minimum CAP of 2.00.

 Good academic standing: a student may not have CAP below 2.00 for two
consecutive semesters.

 Academic Probation: For any semester in which the student's CAP falls below
2.00.

 Academic Dismissal: CAP remains below 2.00 for the 2nd consecutive
semester.

 Appeal for readmission: A dismissed student may submit an appeal if there are extenuating
circumstances, to SCALE within two calendar weeks of the last day of the release of each
semester's examination results.

Grade Free Scheme
(also known as S/U Option)

 Aims to provide a supportive and enabling environment for NUS undergraduates


to make a successful transition into the academic and social culture of university
life.

 Serves to facilitate a transformation in students' mindsets towards grades and


learning in the university setting and enable students to leverage opportunities
for a holistic education.

 Encourages students to pursue their intellectual interests, without undue concern


that exploring a new subject area may adversely affect their CAP.

S/U Option Declaration


The 3-day S/U declaration exercise will take place immediately with the release
of each semester’s examination results and will usually end at 6PM on the last day.
Once the exercise is over, the decision will be considered final.

Leave of Absence (LOA)

● Apply for LOA via Student Information System (https://myisis.nus.edu.sg).
● To avoid payment of fees for the semester, apply by 14th August 2016.

Registration for modules


● A student is expected to register for modules if he/she is not on LOA.
● Students with no modules registered may have their candidature
terminated if they do not notify University of intention to take LOA.

● Use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another


author and the representation of them as one's own original work.

● Plagiarism by students, professors, or researchers is considered


academic dishonesty or academic fraud, and offenders are subject
to academic censure, up to and including expulsion.

Tuition and Other Fees

● Tuition fee (Intake of August 2016)


 Based on the total Modular Credits (MCs) of the modules registered.
 $315 per MC (Example: $1,260 for 4MCs module)
 $1,260 (SCs and SPRs not eligible for Subsidy and International
Students)
 $567 (SCs eligible for Subsidy – After 55% Subsidy)
 $1,008 (SPRs eligible for Subsidy – After 20% Subsidy)

● Other fees (payable per regular semester except for Special Term)
 Student Service Fee of $48.90
 Administrative Fee of $250

MOE Tuition Fee Subsidy
Amount of Subsidy:
●Singapore Citizens (SC): 55%
 SCs aged 40 and above: Pay 60% lower than the standard subsidized
fees payable by other SCs.
●Singapore Permanent Residents (SPR): 20%
*Subsidy does not cover Student Service Fee and Administrative Fee.

Eligibility criteria:
●Had not previously received a government subsidy/sponsorship for a completed first
degree (local or overseas);
●At least 21 years old in the year of course commencement; and
●Had 2 years of full-time work experience OR have fully discharged their NS liability
OR are currently employed on a full-time basis
●Made a one-time declaration on above. (Severe penalties for false declaration)

A student who is ineligible now may become eligible after change of status.

Eligible students must submit the Subsidy declaration form and


employment form to SCALE by 12th August 2016. 32
Fee Payment
● Plan your finances and pay your fees promptly to avoid late fee penalty
of $25.

● Students with fees outstanding after fee payment due date will experience the
following consequences:
 Not able to enroll for modules
 Not able to view final results or receive transcript (official/unofficial)
 Not able to receive student status letters
 Not able to receive conferment letter or degree scroll (for graduating students)

Note: Students with outstanding fees may also be terminated from their candidature of
study.

● Singapore Citizens aged 25 and above may use Skills Future Credit
($500) to offset tuition fee.

Deadline to pay fees for Semester 1 of AY2016/2017 is


30th September 2016

NUS Financial Aid

● NUS Financial Aid available for Singaporeans only. Financial Aid Package that is
offered may comprise a combination of the Tuition Fee Loan, NUS Study Loan
(tuition fee portion only) and MOE Bursary.

● Application for Financial Aid for Semester 1 of AY2016/17 is now open and will
close on 31st July 2016.

● To apply, please submit an online application at


https://myaces.nus.edu.sg/webroapsbs/jsp/login.jsp using your NUSNET ID and
NUSNET Password under “(2) Application for Financial Aid for Existing
Undergraduate Students”.

● Results of your application will be sent to your NUS email account from mid-
August 2016 onwards.

 Start with “E” followed by a series of numbers, e.g. E0012345

● NUSNET Password (This is not the same password which you have used to logon
for Registration (Part One)). Use this password & NUSNET User ID to access
online systems in the NUS intranet). Note: You should change your password 3
working days after completion of Registration (Part One).

● PIN (6 digits) – To use with your Student Card to access Labs, to borrow books
from Library etc. Tap your Student Card on the card reader and enter your PIN.
