Inspection Summary:
Inspection visit was made at APCO Site-1 for witnessing internal FBE coating of Pipe spools and Fittings of various
sizes.
Carried out stage wise inspection of Pipe spools and fittings only in the day shift.
Total number of Pipe spools inspected were 48 no’s & fittings were 3 no’s, among which all were accepted and
IRN 40 was issued.

Inspection Details
Abrasive material test certificates along with FBE powder and primer certificates were reviewed
and found acceptable.
Climate conditions were checked, and the surface temperature of the substrate was found to be
3C0 above the dew point temperature.
Blotter test was performed to make sure that there is no sign of oil & moisture.
Abrasive blast visual inspection was performed as per SSPC-SP 5 or NACE 1 or SA3 and was found
acceptable.
Surface profile measurement were checked with the help of a profile gauge and the profile range
was within the acceptable range. i.e. 50 µm to 100µm.
Surface dust level was checked and was found acceptable.
Surface chloride residues level was checked and deemed acceptable.
Mixing of the primer was monitored as per the data sheet prior to the application.
Viscosity of the primer was also checked by the help of viscosity cup number 4 and was found to
be with in the manufacturer’s recommended range.
Primer application was monitored. DFT was visually checked in such a way that the surface profile
peaks were faintly exposed.
Pre-heat temperature was randomly checked and was as per manufacturers recommendations.
Application of FBE powered was randomly checked.
Final visual inspection of the spools was done, and the surface was found to be uniform in color
and gloss.
Adhesion X-cut was performed to check the cohesive strength of the applied FBE coating.
Dry film thickness (DFT) of the final coating was checked and was found to be in the acceptable
range i.e. (15mils-25 mils).
Holiday test was performed on the spools to ensure that the spools were free from holiday. The
voltage of the detector was 2.2KV.
Repairs which were smaller in size (≤ 233 cm2) were marked and repaired as per manufacturers
repair material, moreover they were again holiday tested to ensure that there is no holiday
present.
Stenciling on the spools was checked and was found to be acceptable.
DSC Analysis documentation was reviewed and were found to be in the acceptable range of -2C0
to +3 C0.
Bend test was witnessed, and the documents were reviewed.
Internal FBE coating of Pipe spools and fittings was done. Results found satisfactory and
accepted.
IRN- 040 for 61 spools & 25 fittings was issued, for further details please refer to the IRN & Tally
sheet.
