1. PRE-FEASIBILITY STUDY OF THE CIVIL WORKS OF THE VOLCÁN
MICROCENTRAL

ABSTRACT

The hydraulic works are essential for the development of peoples.

Harnessing the power of water and turn it into electrical energy is one of the oldest,
safe and economical forms used today. Therefore, this project has set targets to
identify the feasibility of implementing a hydroelectric plant in the area called "El
Volcán", is located in the Pintag zone, Province of Pichincha, in order to obtain own
energy for use in developing the sector. For this purpose, a study of hydrology as
watersheds, gauging, sheds was made, and a study of the topography, geology and
other factors of the sector. It was concluded that conditions are suitable for carrying
out the civil works on the implementation of the hydroelectric plant where it was
determined that the most appropriate turbine is the Michell-Banki turbine, with which
you get 19.72Kw energy, which is enough to implement a system of water pumping
for irrigation and lighting in the resort called "El Volcán".

2. PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS OF WARM ASPHALT MIXTURES

ABSTRACT

The main purpose of the research was to modify the asphalt using crude palm oil
(ACP), to produce warm asphalt mixes and establish its performance in laboratory
and compare them with hot mix asphalt. The mixture used corresponds to the named
dense graduation mixtures, which aggregate maximum nominal size of 1/2".
Laboratory work began with the characterization of the materials to be used (asphalt,
aggregates), followed of characterization tests for the asphalt which was modified
with different experimental percentages of Crude palm oil, then it continues the
rotational viscosity tests in the asphalt and the modified one with ACP. Based on the
results obtained above, potential modifiers for the reduction of the production
temperatures of asphaltic mixtures were selected, for the implementation of the
Marshall Method in the hot mix asphalt (HMA) and in the warm mix asphalt (WMA)
and evaluate its stability and Marshall Flow behavior. Based on the WMA behavior
analysis, the optimal percentage of ACP and optimum content of asphalt to produce
warm mixtures were determined. From the analysis of the results it was established
that the used ACP reduces the asphalt viscosity and therefore the mixing and
compaction temperatures. Performance of the asphalt mixtures with modified asphalt
is similar to the conventional mixtures, establishing the feasibility of its use
application.

3. SEISMIC REINFORCEMENT OF STRUCTURES WITH GLASS FIBER

ABSTRACT

An option for structural reinforcement is the use of fiber reinforced polymers (FRP)
since they do not change the geometry of the structure, they do not increase weight
and their installation is clean and fast. For these reasons their use has been widely
extended in recent years. In Ecuador, the carbon reinforced polymers (CFRP) has
been sold for some years, and recently the glass fiber reinforced polymers (GFRP)
can also be found. This last material is precisely the material employed in this
research. In this Thesis is presented the behavior of concrete cylinder with and
without SikaWrap Hex 100G, glass fiber reinforced and with conventional glass fiber,
is presented. The stress – strain curves for these three cases are presented, and the
main experimental (ACI 440) curve parameters, are also compared.

STANDARD FOR A CONCRETE PRODUCTION PLANT

ABSTRACT

One of the main and basic building materials is concrete. Manual processing has
now been in the past to makeway for large technologies such as the development by
means of plants Pre-mixed. Using pre-mixed concrete both the constructor and client
tend to accelerate the processes and construction time complying with the required
design specifications. Each element that is part of the concrete mix are part of a
process that will be completed to obtain the final product, checking that it meets the
requirements and above all that meets the needs and expectations of the customer.
But we must bear in mind that such conditions mentioned above can be met until
even exceeded only if the concrete producer knows the elements necessary to obtain
a quality product, that each process is under a controlled system of quality
assurancehe.
