Results of Assessments

During the fitness unit, there were a couple of different assessments that were

used to test the students learning and understanding of the content that was taught in the

unit. The two primary assessments used were teacher observations and the skills tests.

Other assessments that were used was an exit slip and a quiz that was given out in the last

day of the unit. Informal checking for understanding was also something that was used

every day. Each of the assessments used were different from the others to help meet the

different learning styles of all the students that were in my classes.

The skills tests really showed me a lot about the students’ knowledge and ability.

The skills tests were not actually testing them on their ability to do the fitness activities.

The skills test was the baseline for the students so we could track their physical growth as

students. During the skills test I also tracked the students’ knowledge about each of the

fitness activities that they were performing.

The other two written assessments were the exit slip and the quiz. I think the exit

slip taught me a lot as a teacher because it was an open-ended question. It let me see what

the students actually knew and what I need to focus on when I teach this unit again. It

was also interesting to see how the students answered it because I did not really focus that

much on the topic during the unit. At first, I gave them the exit slip just to see what they

know but it ended up teaching me a lot more than I expected. The quiz is the other

written assessments that I used but I would change the quiz up a lot. I would make the

quiz a little more difficult because all the students did very, very well on it so I did not

learn that much from it because I think it was too easy for them. Because of that I did not

use the quizzes evidence.
