ANGELA HENDRICKS

I am writing this letter to officially apply for a position as a junior high/middle school math teacher. It
would be an honor to be considered for the assignment, and I am familiar with the responsibilities of this
position, and I possess the right qualities and skills for the job. I am eager to take on this new challenge
and hope that you will consider me as a candidate for this key role.

To the position I bring sixteen years of successful teaching experience: two years at West JH in
Richardson, TX, followed by two years teaching in Florida, and upon returning to Richardson, ten years
teaching at Richardson North JH followed by two years in Colorado. At West JH I was hired to teach 8th
grade on-level Math and to coach girls’ athletics. My primary responsibility for my math team was
planning daily math lessons, as well as preparing tutorials. In this role I learned how data should drive
planning, and I have implemented and honed my analysis skills as I have continued to teach math.

After my two years at West JH, I accepted a position teaching at Webb Middle School in Hillsborough
County, Florida. While in Florida, I worked at two Title I schools, working with all levels of students. My
classes included students below grade level, on grade level, and also classes with advanced students.
Additionally, I worked with students in afterschool camps and in extramural sports.

My husband and I transitioned back to Texas the next year to begin our family. Returning to RISD, I
took a position at North JH where I had the opportunity to teach math in 7th & 8th grade and coach girls’
athletics. While planning with collaborative colleagues to create engaging lessons and vary instructional
methods to meet the needs of our students, we included all elements of Differentiated Instruction and
Best Practices in our daily lessons. I received recognition for the ways I had taken the curriculum
provided and adapted the delivery methods in order to meet the needs of our particular population. In
addition, I served as a model for classroom management across our campus, and received recognition for
the innovative ways I challenged all of my students. Nearly 50% of our students were either At Risk or
ELL, and my goal was to find diverse ways to reach these populations and lead them to success.

Within the building I functioned in different leadership positions including serving as an Instructional
Specialist/Coach for seven years. The responsibilities of that position included: mentoring and guiding
both new and experienced teachers, creating tutoring plans and lessons, assisting with school-wide testing,
and organizing a wealth of logistical plans for the school. In those seven years I was also a part of the
Instructional Leadership Team where I constructed and co-lead school site based Professional
Development days.

For the two years I taught in Colorado, I was able to adapt my teaching style quickly from a paper based
delivery to a one-on-one device driven instructional practice. I integrated district curriculum with Smart
Notebook lessons and the student platform, Schoology. While serving in a leadership role in Jefferson
County, I had the privilege of engaging in Adaptive School training and bringing the most appropriate and
effective strategies for school wide systemic implementation.

Based on my years of experience and my fortune of being able to attend reputable professional trainings
my skill level has developed to the point where I know I can be successful in any junior high/middle
school classroom. I have worked with students and teachers of diverse cultural backgrounds and
educational experience, and am extremely organized, driven, and professional. I am a motivated self-
starter and will work diligently to see each of my students succeed. Thank you for considering me for this
position.
Respectfully,
Angela Hendricks
