Having captured Hanflugh and retrieved the Jewel of Lineages, the Company made up their minds at first to secure

the two before something untoward came to pass again. They returned to Cair Andros, and an overjoyed Rendalthe
secured their old lodgings down in that somewhat habitable dungeon cell, asking them to stand watch on Hanflugh.

During the night, Hanflugh revealed to them the truth of Rendalthe's identity, the reason why he could so easily
escape death at his hands and make his way in and out of Cair Andros as he pleased. He knew, and threatened the
Corporal that he would reveal, that Rendalthe was actually Caredrar Ruivanon, a descendant of the Ruivanon family
which had supported Castamir the Usurper, Lord of Ships, tyrant of Gondor when he came to the throne in T.A 1437
after the Kin-Strife, wresting control of it from Eldacar, who would return later to oust him and reclaim his kingship in
1447. Consequently, the adherents of the Usurper were summarily persecuted and thrown out of the north of Gondor,
at which they fled south to settle in Pelargir and even beyond, mingling with Southerlings until few remained of their
old regal blood. Corporal Rendalthe was among those few, as was Lord Emhedor Dyarcouhn. The former, who had
secretly ventured north again, had not been as subtle as Dyarcouhn, alas, and had hence never made it beyond the
rank of Corporal owing to suspicions about his descent. Dyarcouhn, who had been craftier, had made it into the
Council of Lords.

Seeing that the Companions were filled with wrath and wished to attack Rendalthe in a direct confrontation, Hanflugh
warned that it would avail little as possession of the Jewel alone would not help him much until a second step to his
plans had been accomplished, which indeed was why, he divined, they were being sent to find the old Ruivanon
mansion.
