Class project assignment – Train value calculation

Main task: Find the best train value available for each load case with the given gears that use
the maximum power output of the DC motor.

Sub tasks:

1. Understand the motor output

Find the motor load torque that maximizes power output of the given DC motor.
(Keep in mind that the torque requirement must be met for each load case, meaning the
maximum power value that can be reached may be reduced for some cases.)

2. Understand the load cases

Calculate the force and corresponding torque (a function of spool radius) for each load
case. Assume one or more spool radii.

3. Calculate possible train values and choose relevant values for each load case.

4. Calculate the theoretical time to lift each load case.

Please submit a short report and include the spread sheets for the solution, the equations you
used and a description of your approach. State team number, team member names, and date
on the first page.

Please upload your results as PDF and put your group number in the file name. One report per
group is sufficient.
