EVIDENCE OF COLLABORATION
COMPARISON AND REFLECTION
Similarities- We had also attended a Video conference with students of Walburg
College, Zwijndrecht of Netherland on 24th Jan,2018. We have learnt a lot from this
video conference. It was indeed a good interactive session .The initiatives taken by
the schools in Netherlands and the schools in India both include an active
participation in switching off the lights and fans when not necessary. There is a
keen effort from both the sides of India and Netherlands to save energy as much as
possible.
Differences-Considering the vast difference in the climate of India and Netherlands
the way people in Netherlands conserve energy is much different than ours. For
example-we usually make sure to control our carbon footprint whereas people there
look after their water foot print. In our school we save energy by turning off air
conditioners and fans, on the other hand the students in Netherlands save energy by
turning heaters off when not in use.
INDIA
Pawar Public School,Chandivali
In our school,PPSC,we went around conducting surveys and collecting statistics on
the amount of energy being generated and wasted on a daily basis and how we can
reduce the usage of it.We also held interviews with students and gathered useful
information on what our school already does to save energy, for example-Our school
has installed solar panels on the roof of the school. We also hold a programme called
the ‘Batti Bandh’ meaning ‘lights off ’ in English, in which we switch off all the
lights, fans and air conditioners and go without electricity for an hour.
SMT.Sulochanadevi Singhania
In Smt. Sulochanadevi Singhania school, the pupils have collected statistics as
well. They have also planned and performed activities to spread awareness about the
importance of saving energy at school and at a personal level. They have also done a
video conference with schools from the Netherlands.
NETHERLANDS
Walburg College
The pupils in this school have tried to spread awareness about the importance of
saving energy by illustrating posters and small post its which were then tuck to the
walls of their school mostly right above the switch boards. They have changed the
power management to reduce the electricity generation and have used a system
which automatically turns off all electronics at a set time
CONCLUSION
The EUMIND project-SAVING ENERGY AT SCHOOL-has helped students from
India and Netherlands to actively reduce the consumption of energy at school and
personal levels as well as spread awareness about it. The project has also helped us
know the differences and similarities between the energy conservation systems in
Indian and Dutch schools .To add, this project has helped us expand our knowledge
about energy conservation and ways that can be implemented to do so.
