CDM-625 IP Packet Processor

• The IP Packet Processor enables efficient IP
networking and transport over satellite by adding
routing capability with
– Ultra low overhead Streamline Encapsulation (SLE)
– Header compression
– 2nd Generation Payload compression
– Quality of Service
 DiffServ
 Rule Based
• Operational Modes
– Router Point to Point
– Router Hub
– Router Remote

 CDM-625 IP Packet Processor

• Sub-mux can be used with IP Packet Processor

• ACM can be used with IP Packet Processor
– QoS algorithm dynamically adapts to changes in data rate
• Redundancy
– 1:1 Redundancy is supported with a CRS-170A or CRS-180
IF switch and an off-the-shelf Ethernet switch.
– 1:N Redundancy shall be supported with the CRS-500 1:10
Switch (Expected availability Q4 2010)

Compatibility
• A CDM-625 equipped with the IP Packet Processor
will not be interoperable with a CDM-625 without the
IP Packet Processor for IP/Ethernet traffic
– Different encapsulation
 IP Packet Processor uses SLE
 Base modem operating as a layer 2 switch uses HDLC
• CDM-570-IP Compatibility
– A CDM-625 equipped with the IP Packet Processor shall be
interoperable with the CDM-570/L-IP and CDD-564/L in

not interoperable with CDM-570/L-IP and CDD-564/L

 Ordering
• Factory installed option in a new modem
– The AC version should have 175 W Power Supply
• Upgrading existing fielded units
– 3 different kits will be offered
 KT-0000174 to upgrade 65 W AC version of CDM-625. The kit
includes the IP Packet Processor, 175 W AC Power Supply,
fan, cables and other hardware.
 KT-0000175 to upgrade 65 W DC version of CDM-625. The kit
includes the IP Packet Processor, 125 W DC Power Supply,
fan, cables and other hardware.
 KT-0000176 to upgrade CDM-625 that has the 125 W DC or
175 W AC power supply. The kit includes the IP Packet
Processor, fan, cables and other hardware.
• All upgrades must be performed at an authorized
service center
