Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent, the 40-day period (not including
Sundays) of fasting and repentance leading up to Easter, the Christian
holiday that commemorates and celebrates the resurrection of Jesus
Christ. Sometimes observances include participants receiving an ash
cross marked on their foreheads.

Up until the 7th century, Lent began on the Sunday (Quadragesima

Sunday) six weeks prior to Easter, but the four extra days were eventual-
ly added to parallel the 40 days of fasting in the wilderness by Jesus
Christ.
Ash Wednesday begins February 14th. Worship is at 5:30pm here at Peace.
Our youth group will be serving soup starting on February 21st at 5pm.
This is a fundraiser for the youth. Lenten services will be at 5:30pm.
NOTE:: February council will meet February 21st instead of the 14th
at 6:30pm.
Sunday School will be going to Barrett Care Center and Rolling Hills
Residence on March 25th and there is no Sunday School on April 1st.
Thanks. Joyce

Secretary’s report reviewed and an addendum will be acknowledged from a written comment dated December 11 th, 2017 from
Treasurer Sandy Kashmark. It states “Regarding November Minutes: Notation to provide a paper trail so that treasurer can
accurately code transaction. Please NOTE: Joyce and Heather are remarkably diligent about providing me with receipts
and notation for proper coding. In time, all debit charges are properly coded. The challenge with Council reporting comes
in when I send out the reports PRIOR to going through the receipts (which happened again this month).” S.K.

with the December council minutes.

Chairman, Jerry Morical {East} and Jason Martin {West} on December 13 th. Discussions related to the pending 2018 Pastoral contract

Contract renewal for Pastor Sarah: negotiations pending. Consensus from the council is to proceed with renewal with an under-
standing that our mission and vision complements, or is along the same path as Pastor Sarah’s, and with a goal to encourage an
increased pastoral presence with our youth. This may be realized with adjusted scheduling on Wednesdays. The council also
desires that our Mutual Ministry Team continues working on support and liaison efforts for our Pastor.

with the roof repair {$13,451} makes up for the monthly deficit. Reports will be explained at our annual meeting in January.
