ADMINISTRATION

AND FACULTY
I like the words of Charles W. Cole on the subject of education. I take the
privilege of quoting him here in the hope that it will be meaningful to you as
you continue your education here or elsewhere, formally or in the school of
experience.

"Education is not something that is done for a student or to a student. It

is no laying on of hands, no putting on of robes 1 no pouring in of information.
Education is what the student does for himself in the way of developing his own
powers. Teachers can help; so can a curriculum and an atmosphere of devotion
to things of the mind. But ultimately the problem is utterly the student's. If
he would be an educated man 1 then he must give his best effort to the arduous,
the unpleasing, often discouraging task of disciplining his mind to the point where
it is an effective mechanism--knowing full well that the trained mind is the most
powerful instrument in the whole world, "

Sincerely

4r~ Sch,..oc;co:.--ls'(...A:.-4--r'~

K.B.F.L.

KBF L is located in Buffalo, Missouri on the Buffalo High School

campus. It is a non-commercial, educational station operated on an
assigned frequency of 91. 3 megacycles, Our station is on the air for
15 hours Monday through Friday and 14 hours on Saturday plus 5 hours
on Sunday. This is more hours a week than some commercial broad-
cast stations are allowed to be on the air. Our station is the first sta-
tion to be operated by high school students in the State of Missouri. We
have close to 40 students who are involved in putting this station on the
air. We can all feel that we 1 re in on the beginning of something very
worthwhile in vocational programs and one that no doubt will bring
much publicity to the students of the classes operating this 11 first. 11
This station was only possible because of much work by many inter-
ested people. And by the interest taken by the State Department of
Education, and especially Mr. Carl Barber who gave much needed as-
sistance in establishing what might b .e called a 11 pilot project 11 in
Electronics and Vocational Education.

The Future Teachers of America is an organization that works to provide

a better education for future students. To help fellow students to take pride
in their school work and help them prepare a better life for all.
Each year, the F. T. A. sponsors a College Day to help students get ac-
quainted with different colleges and trade schools. Representatives are in-
vited from different schools to visit and Gliscuss their accommodations, rules,
regulations and different activities.
The F. T. A. also sponsors Student Administration Day. On this day stu-
dents replace the teachers. They prepare lessons to present to the class and
give tests if desired. It is just like a normal day of school except students,
with the assistance of teachers, are in control of the classes.
