Brutal story of Innocent Faces

Seven years old Zainab got raped and murdered in Qasur, this news has shaken the whole
nation. The miserable story of Zainab has been circulating as a hard hitting story on all the news
channels. Everyone has been condemning this incident from last few days. People raised their
voice and protested against law enforcement in Qasur. After havoc on mainstream and social
media, Chief Justice of Lahore High court suspended DPO Qasur Zulfiqar Hameed.

A savage rape and murder of seven years old little girl Zainab in Qasur is not the only story of
child abuse. So far eleven cases of child sex abuse have reported in Pakistan. According to a
report of Sahil, a non-governmental NGO, total 1,764 cases of child abuse were reported
throughout the country in the first six months of 2017. In the previous years, total number of
reported cases was 4,139. This shocking results have left the question mark on the performance
of law enforcement agencies of Pakistan. The report of Sahil shows that, 62 out of 100 percent
cases were reported from Punjab, 27 per from Sindh, 76 per from Balochistan, 42 per from KPK
and Azad Kashmir while 58 per from FATA.

A physical mal-treatment or sexual molestation of a child is known as child abuse. Child abuse
or maltreatment is a very serious problem not only in Pakistan in fact in the whole globe. Child
maltreatment can be divided in different forms; emotional, sexual, physical or neglect.

Generally, it is considerd that child protection is the only responsibility of professionals who
work for social services, psychology, health department and justice systems. Infact, social
scientists, economists, political scientists, sociologists and humanists are equally responsible for
understanding the concepts and designing strategies in children protection. There are various
aspects of child abuse. For instance, a child is devoided of basic necessities like food, shelter,
clothing, appropriate environment for physical and mental health, love, care and support from
parents. Similarly, sometimes parents are not able to protect their children physically and
mentally. This leads to mental illness and anxiety. Hence, this is also included in negligence or
child abuse. Sometimes child abuse is emotional like some parents are unable to understand
their children personality. They are not able to know about their childrens' desires. Such
parents have more focused on achieving their own goals over children whims and whises.
Useually, they treat them with harsh and aggressive tone for acheiving better results. In the
same manner, Abuse can be physical. For example, a child suffers from any non-accidental
physical injuries like hitting, beating, burning by any stranger outside is good to be quoted as
physical abuse. There is another abuse known as sexual abuse. It happens when any adult uses
his authority to involve a child in sexual activities is sexual abuse. It includes physical, verbal and
emotional like kissing and hugging to a child in sexual manner. Moreover, keeping a sexual
relationships with the person who is minor, rape, sending nasty SMS, MMS or emails to child,
showing obscene films, magazines or photographs are the glaring examples of sexul abuse.

Now the question arises that why child abuse happens and how it promotes in our society?
Some factors that are responsible for child abuse are the isolation when someone has no family
members or extended family, friends, and any type of back support. Alcohol and drugs
addiction also affect the human nature and lead to child abuse. Lack of parenting skills when
parents do not know how they can help their children in positive manners, depression because
of economical issues, health problems and worries of life may also lead child maltreatment.
Unrealistic expectations, some people cannot understand the difference between a child and
adult ones’ development process. Self-esteem or low confidence and poor childhood
experiences can also become the reason of child abuse. (i am writing the pragraph regarding

To prevent this abusive behavior in our society, parents need to play a vital role. They shoud
educate and trained their children in a positive enviornment. Parents need to educate their
children that if some one touches their private body parts, they must tell to their parents.
Parents should pay attention when an unkown person showing extra attention towards their
child. They have the knowledge about the friends gathering of their children. Parents should
believe on their children, ask reason from their children, if they refuse to meet someone and
consider their reason seriously. Parents should also be very careful about their child's concern
school, hostel or daycare institution that it did not give any information about your child to any
other except you without your permission officially.

Now, the question arises that why child abuse is happened and how it has been promoting in
our society. There are certain factors which are responsible for child abuse. Firstly,
unawareness of children about abusive behavior is the major factor of child abuse. Usually
children have no knowlege about the wrong practice, if some one is abused physically and
mentally. Secondly, lack of parenting training to their children has been adding fuel to fire in
this regard. Parents are busy in tackling economic and social issues and forgets to train their
children in positive manner. For instance, a child who is not well trained by his parents at his
young age loses confidence. If someone is doing wrong with him, he prefers to keep queit
rather than speak against the wrongdoings. Thirdly, negative role of media is also reponsible to
promote child abuse. For example, there are different media channels who propagate bawdy
and nudity by showing different programs in the morning shows. When people watch such
programs, their sexual desires raises and they try to abuse children sexually. Fourthly, the nude
dance in Stage dramas in different provinces of pakistan has been destroying the social fabric of
society. This has been also arising the negative feeling among people and compel people to do
wrong with the minors. Fifthly, Uncontrollable social media is another reason in sexual abuse of
children. People has easily access to the porn websites. They watch and share videos with their
friends. Similarly, whatsapp and viber have the same kind of groups which damage the whole
society. Sixthly, Alcohol and drugs addiction affect the human nature and lead to child abuse.
These alcholic peolpe loses senses and become cause of wrong doings.
