C- Collaboration & O- Organization

 How to get organized


o This video explains the importance of being an organized student and models various methods of
getting organized for school.
 Binder Samples
o This folder houses multiple videos of AVID students and teachers showing examples of their binder
organization. One example also shows the basics of how to set up One Note in order to use it as an e-
binder.
o A template for taking Cornell Notes is provided. The students may take the notes electronically or print
out the paper and take notes by hand.

o The students discuss their thoughts on organization.
 What methods of organization do they currently follow?
 Why is it important to be organized?
 Should school provide you with time to get organized? Explain.
 Do the same methods of organization work for everyone equally? Explain.
 Assignment 3 – Physical Binder vs E-Binder Project Submission
o Students will work with a partner to complete this project. They will choose their partner by signing up
on a live word document.
o The task is to complete a project which highlights the pros and cons of both physical and e-binders.
o The students will choose which presentation tool they will use to publish their final product, Power
Point, Infographic, Video, Prezi, etc.

R- Reading

 How to Mark the Text


o This video models the different steps to follow when Marking the Text.
o A template for taking Cornell Notes is provided. The students may take the notes electronically or print
out the paper and take notes by hand.
 Marking the Text Samples
o This folder houses multiple student samples of Marking the Text.
o These samples will serve as reference.

o The students will discuss their thoughts on Marking the Text.
 What reading strategies have they used in the past?
 What are their thoughts on Marking the Text?
 How can Marking the Text help them be successful?
 What additional steps could be included in order to improve this strategy?
 Assignment 4 – Mark the Text Submission
o Students will be provided with a PDF of an article.
o The students have the following options for completing the assignment:
 Download AVID Weekly Article.pdf, mark the text, save the document, and upload it for
submission.
 Download AVID Weekly Article.pdf, print out the article, mark the text, scan the paper/take a
picture, and upload it for submission.

C- Conclusion
 Are you ready for the 8th grade AVID elective?
o This page will review what the students should be able to do after completing this course.
 [Conclusion] WICOR Reflection Discussion
o The students will reflect on WICOR by writing a brief reflection for each learning module.
o The students will engage in a concluding discussion in which they discuss what areas of growth they
have in common, what areas of refinement they share, what they hope to learn, etc.
 Assignment 5 – AVID 101 Submission
o The students will create a presentation that will help a new student understand what WICOR is and
some of the important strategies necessary in order to be successful in class.
o The students will choose which presentation tool they will use to publish their final product, Power
Point, Infographic, Video, Prezi, etc.
