The staff spent the last
month planning programs
for the coming months.
The Mentoring Program
began January 22 with a
short (non-mandatory)
training session for the
mentors. At the first meeting
with the school children on
January 29, there were 14
adults and 16 children. This
program pairs beginning
readers with mentors who
encourage the children to
read out loud The Sunshine
Transit picked the students
up at the school, thereby
cutting off almost 20
minutes in their ride to the
library. Thank you Transit!
This program will run until
March 5th. The library itself
will be closed on Presidents’
Day, February 19th, but the
Mentor Program will still
take place. If you are
interested in being a mentor
or would like to attend as a
student, please contact the
library at 861-7645.
Talkeetna Library’s Winter
Reading Program is “Warm
Up with Reading.” There
will be different levels for
younger readers, young
adults and adults. Younger
participants will be filling out
snow globes charts; older
participants read and review
books they have read.

drawings for each level, with
a grand prize sure to warm
your heart. This program
will start February 5th and
run until Friday, March 16th
with a Library Birthday Party
sponsored by the Friends.
Blind Date with a Book will
be our display for February.
Pick a book, read it, and
review it. The catch is that
the book is wrapped up so
you do not know the title!
PFD help is available at the
library. We can help with
filling out forms, applying
online, and printing off
forms you may need.
Tax forms are available at
the library, although we are
still awaiting the delivery of
the instruction booklets.
The library staff can help
with printing off the forms
and some of the tables you
may need at no charge. We
can also assist finding the
information you need online,
but are not qualified to give
you tax advice. An
announcement will be on
KTNA and the post office
bulletin board when the
instruction booklets arrive.
WINTER READING
PROGRAM
Talkeetna Library’s Winter

offer special activities and
crafts in the children's
section, so feel free to bring
in the kids for some hands-
on fun and a chance to
warm up on those cold
afternoons!
The program runs for 9
weeks, beginning January
15th. A combination Library
Birthday and Reading
Program Party will be held
at the Library on Saturday,
March 17 from 2-5 p.m.
LIBRARY CLOSURE
The library will be closed on
Monday, Feb. 19th, for
Presidents’ Day. It will
reopen at its usual time on
Tues. It will be opened for
the Read to Success
Mentorship Program
participants, however, on
that Monday. Book drop is
always available. Please,
no DVDs or audiotapes in
the book drop.

Permanent Fund Dividend
applications are available at
the Talkeetna Library as of
January 2nd.
Need help filling out the
online application? Let us
help you. It's easy and very
convenient. Call to set up
an "appointment." so you
can have our undivided
attention. Appointments
may be made for Tues. or
Wed. morning before
opening hours.
Appointments may also be
made for other times but is
dependent on staffing.
You'll need an email
address, which we can help
you set up.

BREAKFAST BOOK CLUB
The Breakfast Book Club
meets Tuesday, Feb. 13th,
at 9:30 am, at the library.
The featured book is This
Old House by Jo Ann Wold.
Copies are available at the
library. Please bring a
finger food to share. We
will supply tea and coffee.
The book for March is Her
Royal Spyness by Rhys
Bowen.
STORYTIME
Storytime meets every
Thursday at 11:15 at the
library. Join us for books,
crafts, and a snack.
Storytime is open to
children of all ages. As
always, parental
participation is always
appreciated.

Feb 8: Cookie decorating and
Friendship Bracelets for
Valentine’s Day

TEEN BOOK 2 FILM CLUB
The Teen Book 2 Film (for
teens in the grades of 7-12}
meets the fourth Saturday of
the month at 6pm. Books are
available the month before the
event, so come on in and get
the latest one. This program is
sponsored by the Friends of
the Library. We would also
like to thank The Flying
Squirrel for providing discount
pizzas and the Food Pantry for
helping with the snacks.
