Planning agendas/meetings: In my internship I would collect everyone’s schedules and plan
times that we could all meet up to discuss certain issues and events.
Updating files/analyzing data/compiling statistics/computing numerical data/writing reports:
During my internship my main job was to update files that held information about parts that
the company sold. While doing this I would have to compile statistics of the part and compute
how much they should cost. After this I would input this information into an excel file and
analyze it for mistakes.
Editing/prioritizing work: Along with compiling statistics, many times I would be given excel
sheets and different documents that I would need to edit. On a daily basis I would be given
from 5-10 documents and I would need to prioritize them.
Adapting new procedures: During all of my jobs at one point or another I have had to adopt
new procedures. Some have been as simple as how to clean a coffee machine and some have
been harder like how to price different parts.
Screening telephone calls: At all of my jobs I have had to take phone calls and learn how to
transfer them to people as well as take messages.
Listening to others/defining a problem: Being a barista involves customer service and in many
situations I have had to listen to customers complaints and fix the problem ( a coffee they
didn’t like)

Job/Internship: Financial Representative Internship at Northwest Mutual

Rationale:
I am qualified for this internship because many off the job skills listed on the above list
that I highlighted align with the job skills that this internship requires. One of the main skills
required is “a history of personal success”. I think I fit that skill perfectly because in all of my
jobs I have been a great employee and have helped the company be better.
This internship is one that demands a lot of technical skills and ability to analyze data
and interpret it and that is one of my strongest skills. At my internship before, that was my
largest task and something that I did on the daily. This background in data could help me be a
better candidate for this position. Another requirement is that the candidate is self motivated.
Through all of my jobs and internships I have had to be in charge of my own work and get the
job done without someone watching me. This has better prepared me for this internship.

Research:
Northwest Mutual is ranked top 10 for internship programs in the business field.
Northwest Mutual also holds a large number of assets and has many opportunities for me to
practice career skills for my future career in finance. This internship requires for 15-20 hours
weekly at the Northwest Mutual location as well as a few hours here and there traveling to
meet different people and business executives who hold accounts with Northwest Mutual.
This company and internship aligns with my personal goals because it focuses on
teaching me skills for my job and working with a busy college student, something that is very
important to me given that I am in college and in a sorority. My goal job is to be a financial
advisor and this program basically sets me up with all the skills and knowledge I need to
transition smoothly from college to a job.
