Absorbers
Absorption materials are the most basic and widely used acoustical materials available.
Absorbers reduce reverberation and noise by absorbing sound.
Absorbers are used in any reverberant space from corridors to expansive arenas.
There are many types of absorbers available and are typically porous, open cell acoustical materials
manufactured out of foam or fiberglass.
Sound absorption efficiency is rated by a NRC number, or Noise Reduction Coefficient rating. The higher
the NRC rating, the more efficient the product is at absorbing noise energy.
Types of Absorbers
Acoustic Foams – are sound absorbers used in a wide variety of applications ranging
from Recording and Broadcast Studios to Commercial and Industrial Facilities. These
products can be applied directly to walls, hung as baffles or used as freestanding
absorbers.
Fabric Wrapped Panels - are a great solution for sound absorption and noise control
for many different types of rooms. The panels are Class A fire rated, and there are
different types depending on your requirements. They can even have custom artwork
on the face. They are used on many different types of rooms; restaurants, studios, sound
recording, broadcast, auditoriums, conference rooms, churches and many more.
Baffles and Banners – are designed to solve acoustical problems economically in any
large cubic volume space such as arenas, gymnasiums, theaters, restaurants, and
auditoriums.
White Paintable Panel – are used to reduce echo and reverberation. These acoustical
panels are used to create unique designs and patterns. The glass fiber core is faced
with a paintable covering. This allows you to match or complement existing wall
colors by applying a light coat of flat or matte spray paint.
Noise Barriers
Noise barrier materials are used to block noise from transmitting from one area to another.
These acoustical materials are typically made of flexible mass-loaded vinyl or other engineered
materials.
Sound barrier materials are used to reduce the transmission of airborne sound.
Soundproof barriers use composite layers of vinyl, foam or fiberglass to block, dampen and deflect
sound energy and vibration.
They are often flexible and equipped with a peel-and-stick adhesive that makes them incredibly
easy to install around pipes, on top of drywall, and inside nontraditional spaces like boat cabins and
vehicle trunks.
All Noise Barriers are rated by a STC number, or Sound Transmission Classification. The higher
the STC rating, the more efficient the product is at blocking noise path.
Acoustical Door Seals - are an economical and effective solution to unwanted noise
escaping through closed office or exterior doors. These systems, designed
specifically for reducing sound transmission, consist of neoprene seals that
inconspicuously mount to your existing door frame to block any sound escaping
from the cracks along the perimeter and a floor saddle with automatic door bottom
that seals the door to the floor when closed.
Acoustical Ceiling Barrier - solves two problems in one as it both absorbs and
blocks unwanted sound. They may be in the form of vinyl sound barriers, ceiling
tiles with a laminated sound barrier, a ceiling tile lag laid above your ceiling tile
and grid, or even a new ceiling below your existing ceiling, using isolation clips
or isolation hangers.
Sound Diffuser
Sound diffusers are designed to scatter or disperse sound waves, thereby reducing
standing waves and echoes to improve sound clarity.
Diffusers (or Diffusors) are typically used in critical listening environments like
recording studios, control rooms, music production and live music rooms.
Unlike sound absorbers that trap or eliminate the sound, sound diffusers maintain the
"live" ambience, while at the same time reducing standing waves and slap echo.
Diffusers may be manufactured from molded plastic or E-Glass and may be wrapped or
covered in various fabrics.
Sound diffusers are often used in combination with other materials such as sound
absorbers, bass traps, ceiling clouds or other provisions to achieve the desired results for
the application.
Quadra Pyramid Diffuser - This diffuser generates a uniform polar response over a
broad frequency range using a pre-rotated pyramidal pattern to create 16 angles of
reflection.
Composite Materials
Composite materials are products that combine both Noise Barrier & Sound Absorber materials.
These products when engineered together typically prove the greatest levels of noise reduction.
Acoustical composite materials have both a NRC and STC rating. The higher the NRC and STC
rating, the more efficient the material is at reducing noise levels.
