Psalm 19

Introduction
about 1000 years before the birth of Christ David announced
“the heavens declare the glory of God; and the Firmament shows his handiwork”.

If an honest interpretation is taken from the evidence that becomes available to us year after
year, we discover the power and Majesty of gods design and this universe shows us his amazing
power.
the universe is vast; it is estimated to be over 20 billion light years across the largest point and
would take us 20 billion years to travel it if we traveled at a speed of light around 186,000 miles
per second.

this demonstrates not only our own futility when compared to the rest of gods creation but also
gods great wisdom, the way the planets orbit the sun and remain constant in spite of the
mathematical complexity that is involved just to keep everything the way it is right now, as it
has been since man started to first explore it in the time of Galileo and not end in disaster or
complete chaos.
-----------READ ENTIRE CHAPTER---------

--Vs 1. David begins by looking upward, he looks at the heavens and immediately sees the
design of our creator. This prompts his observations as we see here in vs 1.
“the “heavens” declare his glory”, that is the visible sky that we can see, “and the “firmament”
declares his handiwork, referring to the great expanse of it all,
the ESV translates it “the sky above” and it means everything above us beyond even what we
are able to see.

--Vs 2. Speaks of consistency “Day unto Day” there is instability around us witness the resent
storms, but one thing that never changes is the sun and its constant presence day after day, the
moon and the stars are visible every night, and it says “Night unto Night reveals Knowledge”

--Question: What do you think that is referring to? --

--Vs 3. It points out that there is no barrier between languages for something as plain as the sun
moon and stars, no matter where you live “the heavens continue to declare the glory of God”

--Vs 4-6. there “Line” has gone out thru all the earth, this references a line of measure, or a
“path” and the sun and moon are on a line or path that is so exact year after year we can
calculate were they will be in 20,000 years from now, showing at least that science believes in
the exactness of the visible and doesn't spend much time on where they themselves will be in
20,000 years, but they are set in there paths, the sun and moon and we get our calendar months
from them.
We see gods intelligence before us every day and every night with all of his creations
and we should be Humbled by it all and truly awed by the scope of his plans and in all of this
amazing design.
---(Romans 1:20)---
Verses 7-11. once we observe creation around us and realize that there has to be a Creator for all
of it to have come into being, we should be drawn to seek him out and try to understand him
and his will for all of us in this creation.
Which is very easy.. he gave us a large book composed of many smaller books written by men
from every walk of life, and inspired directly by god with everything we need to know to be
saved, and about the history and lineage of our savior from the very beginning thru his death
and the spread of the gospel to the entire earth

Vs 7. “The Law of the lord is perfect, converting the soul.” The word LAW translates from the
Hebrew word Torah which can mean to give instruction or to teach or to instruct, in this
instance it means the instruction from the lord, is “Perfect” = “Without Error or Contradiction”,
“Converting” the soul, a complete U-turn or Change from within our hearts, tied to repentance.
---(Acts 3:19)---
The testimony of the lord, the word testimony means to repeat or do again this gives a sense of
repetition or permanence, “Is Sure” unfailing and enduring and will stand for all time,

---(Hebrews 6:18) god cannot lie, (2 Timothy 2:19) “the solid foundation of the lord stands”---

Making wise the simple (Psalm 14:1) the atheist will spend his life proving the pointless and it
is a lesson to us today to always seek the things that are worthy of our time and our thoughts.
---(Proverbs 1:22)---
the plan that god have given us for living our lives... DOES WORK, many will not admit to
themselves that gods way is the only way, the only way to happy life and the only way to get to
heaven and eternal life with him. We see today our society living for themselves saying that god
is a myth and ignoring the way he wants them to live and all the while they are living terrible
lives of sin and they know that it is a hard life but they cannot connect the fact that there lives
and there hardships can be taken away by god and that he is able to save them.

Vs 8a. The statutes of the Lord , the word statutes means to “uphold or confirm, to be
established.”
Gods word is sure and will never change, it has been proven and is established as our guide
here on earth

Are “RIGHT”, Upright, righteous, Just, his word is truth. (John 17:17)

Rejoicing the heart, keeping gods word and obeying him should give us joy. (Philippians 4:4)

Vs 8b. the commandment of the Lord, is a command or a direct thing to do or not to do, By
god.

“Pure”, Holy or above the common, something out of the ordinary or more valuable.

“Enlightening the EYES” when we obey gods word we will observe there wisdom over time,
(Psalm 119:104) “Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false
way.”
Vs 9a. The fear of the Lord, the word Fear means to revere or to respect, (Ecclesiastes 12:13)

Is clean, Morally pure and righteous, it is meant to cleanse us, often used to describe holiness or
worship in Israelite ceremonies, the only way we can come to harm by gods words is when we
disobey or ignore them completely.

Enduring forever, Gods is everlasting, he will not change, how he treats those who obey him
will not change, it is written for us to obey and the final outcome is also written there as well
and it is eternal life, if we are clean also, we will one day see him in heaven.

Vs 9b. The Judgment of the Lord, Judgment – the deciding of a case, or the consequences of
someones actions being judged. (John 12:48, Revelation 20:12)

True and Righteous, Firm.. faithful, and just. unchangeable and good, God demand only our
Best. (Romans 8:28)

Altogether, Completely or totally, a whole or total of everything,

More to be desired than anything else in this world, gods creation is beyond anything that man
can design or construct, (Matthew 16:26)

there is only true Value in the Kingdom of heaven. ( Matthew 13:44-46)

We have to heed the whole word of god and not take what suits our own ideas and desires but
obey it in entirety. ( 2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Finally we see in Verses 12-14 A turning again to considering gods Majesty of design
Almost like Psalm 8:4 “What is man that you are mindful of him,” he sees the greatness of god
and his great mercy in giving us a choice to obey him or not.

Cleanse me of my secret faults, He desires to understand all of his errors and for god to forgive
them. (James 1:5) We have all sinned (1 John 1:9-10) and no one is perfect.

Keep back your servant from Presumptuous sin, David knows that he cannot go without sinning
and wishes to always please god (Romans 6:1-2) shall we continue in sin, the answer is NO!

(Hebrews 6:4-8, 10:26-31 and 1 John 3:4-9) Warn us that as long as we continue to live in sin,
we cannot be forgiven. This Presumptuous sin is what led god to turn his back on Israel and
Judah and allowing them to be overcome and taken into captivity.

May my words and thoughts be acceptable to you!, (James 4:10) “humble yourselves”

---Conclusion---
It is all about our attitude! A humble heart that fears God in all reverence and strives to do his
will and all of his will, can one day stand before Him ready to face the judgment.
