These tools enhance the productivity of design teams creating and managing very large, complex product designs -- and help downstream users produce accurate lifecycle

Pro/ENGINEER Advanced Mechanica Option also contains a robust library of tools that allow engineers to rapidly build simulation models. These tools include: • Weld connections,
including spot, end, and perimeter • Advanced spring and mass idealizations • Rigid connections • Advanced shells with properties such as laminate lay-ups • Engineering loads
and constraints such as bearing loads and cyclic symmetry constraints • Rigid and weighted links for use with NASTRAN • Isotropic, orthotropic, and anisotropic materials support.
In addition, Advanced Mechanica Option provides engineers the flexibility of selecting other solvers via its FEM mode. In FEM mode, analysts can output, solve, and post-process
models in either NASTRAN or ANSYS. Also, because Advanced Mechanica Option uses a single simulation model and database, analysts can switch between using the
Mechanica-based solver and FEM mode solvers with no need to recreate modeling entities (properties, loads, etc.).
Hierarchical Meshing in FEM Mode: Why shouldn’t analysts have the same flexibility in constructing system level analysis models using concurrent and top-down design
methodologies that CAD designers apply on a daily basis? With Pro/ENGINEER Advanced Mechanica Option, they do. Hierarchical meshing lets analysts define the analysis model
at lower levels of the assembly structure (including properties, the finite element mesh, data recovery points, etc.). These definitions are then rolled up into the higher-level
assemblies. This way, analysts can divide the workload for the creation of large analysis models and make more extensive re-use of analysis data.

About Animation
Use the Application>Animation command to invoke the Design Animation option. With Design Animation, you can coordinate the components of an animation sequence and play
back an animation. When you select this command, a timeline window appears below the graphics window, and a toolbar appears below the Pro/ENGINEER toolbar. You can run,
create, and manage your animation using the menu commands, the toolbar buttons, or the timeline window.
You can use Design Animation to:
· visualize your assembly's operation. If you have the concept, but have not defined the mechanics, you can drag bodies to different positions and take snapshots to create an
animation.
· create an assembly or disassembly sequence animation of your model
· create a maintenance sequence, a short animation of steps to take to instruct a user in how to repair or build a product
For an introduction and overview of the Design Animation module, and for typical steps to take to create an animation, see the Design Animation Concepts Guide online document.

With Pro/ENGINEER Interactive Surface Design, designers can start conceptually by developing geometry from scratch, a sketch, scan sets or other reference data, gradually
developing the concept into the production model. User’s can also incorporate the Pro/ENGINEER Interactive Surface Design “Style” feature with other Pro/ENGINEER features to
create a model that combines the power of parametrically driven features with freeform surfacing. This allows many design alternatives to be considered while design, engineering
and manufacturing information will be updated as changes occur regardless of their complexity.
Instead of a sequential modeling environment, Pro/ENGINEER Interactive Surface Design enables a unique parallel modeling environment, where designers and engineers work
with a unique four-view modeling window that supports the direct creation, manipulation, and control of curves, surfaces, and connections. The flexibility of parallel modeling also
allows the user to establish a parent-child relationship between curves and surface elements if desired. This enables designers and engineers to build free form geometry at any
point in the design, and to model curves and surfaces with as many or as few constraints as desired. By maintaining the focus on value added design, not data transfer and
interpretation, Pro/Engineer Interactive Surface Design helps users quickly define and maintain design intent throughout the entire product development process.
The STEP Format: STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data) is an international standard, defined in publications produced by the U.S. Product Data Association
(US PRO) IGES/PDES Organization. The complete set of specifications for STEP is referred to as ISO 10303.
The STEP format is organized as a series of documents (in STEP terminology, referred to as parts), with each part published separately. Application Protocols (APs), which
reference generic parts of ISO 10303, are produced to meet specific data exchange requirements for a particular application. AP202 has reached the status of an International
Standard (IS) version. Other APs, including AP202DIS (Draft International Standard) and AP214CD (Committee Draft), are at various draft stages of development.

· Designers, not analysis specialists, use Plastic Advisor Option while designing an injection molded plastic part to gain insight into manufacturability and create a more
manufacturable part.
· Plastic Advisor Option is both simple and fast enough to evaluate every design change, not just every design, for injection molding manufacturability.
· Plastic Advisor Option saves money by reducing late-cycle design changes and mold reengineering costs.
Plastic Advisor allows users to simulate the mold filling of injection molded parts at the early stages of part design. This extension is available as a license that can float across the
network, but is locked to a Pro/ENGINEER session for it's duration.
The details provided below are for reference only and are culled from PTC's product pages, various presentations (past and present) and personal knowledge. There is no guarantee of accuracy or that

Pro/CASTING Pro/CASTING provides tools to design die assemblies and components and prepare castings for manufacturing.
Pro/CASTING together provides tools to do the following:
· Analyze if a design part is moldable, and detect and fix problematic zones
· Apply a shrinkage that corresponds to design part material, geometry, and molding conditions
· Make conceptual design of one or a multi-cavity mold
· Design core and cavity inserts, sand cores, sliders, lifters, and other components that define a shape of molded part
· Populate a mold assembly with standard components such us mold base, ejector pins, sprue bushings, screws, fittings, and other components creating corresponding clearance
holes
· Create runners and waterlines
· Check interference of components during mold opening
Pro/CMM CMM programmers can also use the Computer-Aided Verification Option to create inspection programs from Pro/ENGINEER design models. Probe paths for the operation are
generated by specifying geometry and tolerance information directly from the Pro/ENGINEER solid part or drawing. The probe path developed can be replayed and automatically
checked for collisions with tooling and the model. The inspection program is output to a file and passed to the CMM through the DMIS (dimensional measurement inspection
standard) 3.0 language. Any CMM controller that is DMIS 3.0 compliant can use the output directly. Most other controllers can be supported through translators.
About Pro/CMM
Pro/CMM is an optional module of Pro/ENGINEER, which provides the tool to generate inspection programs for Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). CMMs will use these
programs to probe manufactured parts and provide tolerance deviation analyses for dimensions and geometric tolerances. Pro/CMM supports probing using fixed, as well as
manually and automatically indexed, probes. Using Pro/CMM, you can create fully associative, and parametrically defined, measuring sequences relative to Pro/ENGINEER
models. You can also define steps that instruct the CMM to construct geometric entities and reference coordinate systems relative to measured data, and then to perform
dimensional and geometric tolerance analyses on the entities, with respect to reference coordinate systems. Pro/CMM provides dynamic display of the probe assembly along the
path of the probe tip, and allows changing the probe, the active tip, and tip orientation at different points along the path to enable interference checking.
Pro/COMPOSITE
Pro/DIAGRAM Pro/DIAGRAM captures logical connection information and represents it graphically as wires, cables, components and pins. You can use Pro/Diagram to output component lists and
wire lists, either as schematic reports or as formatted ASCII text files.
Pro/DIEFACE Pro/DIEFACE is an optional Pro/ENGINEER module that provides die designers with functionality for defining complex components used in the manufacture of deep-drawn
products, such as automotive body panels. To use Pro/DIEFACE, you must also have a license for the Pro/SURFACE module.
Pro/DIEFACE allows you to create parametric die surfaces that can be easily changed to optimize the process of forming panels. In addition, full associativity with other
Pro/ENGINEER modules also allows Pro/DIEFACE users to rapidly propagate design changes throughout the design and manufacturing process.
Pro/ECAD With a Pro/ECAD license, you can exchange information between Pro/ENGINEER and systems for electrical computer aided design (ECAD).

About the Mold Layout Application
The Mold Layout application provides a dynamic environment for designing and assembling single or multi-cavity tooling in an assembly. Mold Layout also provides efficient tools
for fast and robust design of single or multi-cavity molds. You can easily populate your assembly with cavity subassemblies, a mold base assembly, standard components, and an
injection molding machine. You can also create some mold-specific features.
The Mold Layout application is mold functionality that is accessible from Assembly mode. You create or open a regular assembly (.asm) file to use this application.
You can switch from working on a multi-cavity mold assembly to working on an individual cavity. To do this, use a regular assembly structure where the multi-cavity mold assembly
model is a top level assembly and each cavity model is a subassembly. These cavity subassemblies are represented by Mold or Cast assemblies
You can make changes in one cavity assembly model appear in all cavity assembly models in the multi-cavity mold assembly.
The cavity population tool allows flexible patterning of the cavities according to rectangular, circular, and user defined pattern rules. You can add, remove, move, or reorient each
cavity pattern member individually, or even replace any cavity model with a family table instance.
Other functions specific to Mold Layout are as follows:
· Selecting and placing mold bases with the Mold Base Selection dialog box
· Selecting and placing Injection Molding Machine models
· Creating runners at the assembly level
· Creating waterlines at the assembly level
· Creating ejector pin holes at the assembly level
· Using the standard component Catalog to add, redefine, delete, trim, and cut components

Pro/NC-CHECK NC Check is a dynamic simulation of material removal on the computer screen. It allows you to view a step-by-step simulation of material removal as the tool is cutting the
workpiece.
Optional module Pro/NC-CHECK™ allows you to display a step-by-step simulation of material removal as the tool is cutting the workpiece. This dynamic simulation process is
called NC Check.
NC Check is implemented for all types of NC sequences. If a tool model has been used, it will be replaced by the default tool of appropriate type, as defined by the tool parameter
values. If a sketched tool is used, the tool display will be based on the sketch (revolved for Trajectory milling, extruded for Trajectory turning).
Note: The sketched tool’s section cannot contain splines or self-intersecting entities.
The material is removed according to the actual tool shape and motion, that is, all scallops left by the tool passes will be displayed.
Note: NC Check is not implemented for Side Mill tools.
Pro/NC GPOST Pro/ENGINEER NC GPOST is a software that provide NC post-processing solutions for all Pro/ENGINEER CAM Options. The user can create and update post-processors for any
type of CNC machine, used by the NC Machining Option to create specific NC code (G&M codes) files. The product is developed by Austin NC and sold and supported by PTC in
the Pro/ENGINEER marketplace. Manufacturing engineers and NC part programmers can easily create and modify their post-processors to produce “edit free” Machine Control
Data (MCD) output from the NC Machining and the NC Advanced Machining Option.
NC GPOST lowers NC post-processor development and maintenance costs by improving NC machine productivity while ensuring that NC post-processing produces quality
products. Post-processing is a key production tool and manufacturing companies need to control them – and avoid outsourcing their development and maintenance.
Pro/NC-GPOST is a post-processor generation system designed for end users having no software programming expertise. It can accommodate various flame contouring, laser
contouring, wire edm, punch press, lathe and mill machine types that have up to five axes of continuous path control.
About NC Post-Processing
Pro/NC generates cutter location (CL) data files in an ASCII format that need to be post-processed to create Machine Control Data (MCD) files before any machining operation
occurs.
Each Pro/NC module includes a standard set of NC post-processors that can be executed directly or modified using an optional module. Additional post-processors are available for
download on PTC.COM technical support web site (GPOST Central Page).

on their status in the step
Pro/PROGRAM About Pro/PROGRAM: Each model in Pro/ENGINEER has a listing of major design steps and parameters. This model design listing can be edited to work as a program. By
running the program, you change the model according to new design specifications.
Pro/SCAN-TOOLS Scantools provides functions for importing and filtering scan data and for creating and manipulating smooth curves and surfaces.
Scantools was originally developed to aid the automotive industry in the creation of CAD surfaces from point data collected by digitizing a physical prototype or a model.
The conventional process begins by generating a clay model based on an artist’s conceptual renderings and sketches. After the clay surfaces are “perfected” they are then digitized
using either a contact or no-contact method to collect thousands of points. The points are imported into Scantools and smooth curves and surfaces are created using automated
fitting functionality to obtain high quality results in an efficient manner.
Today Scantools is used in various industries, ranging in applications from sculpted surfaces of an automotive body panel or mag wheel to engineered surfaces of an aircraft or fan
blade.
Scantools is unique in that it offers dynamic feedback while manipulating curves and surfaces to measure quantitative criteria such as deviation and qualitative criteria such as 3-D
curvature plots, shaded images (for surfaces), and stylistic highlights (for surfaces). In addition, because the result from beginning to end is a Pro/ENGINEER part file (.prt), it offers
a seamless and associative link to all Pro/ENGINEER applications.
In addition to low density data typically collected from CMMs, Scantools accepts high density "point cloud" scan data in various formats ibl, .pts, .igs, .vda.
Note: All imported scan data, whether in point or curve format, will appear as curves. These scan curves are created as splines passing through the scanned points. The shape may
or may not be an accurate representation depending on the amount of noise in the data.
2. Use information/analysis tools. Numerous tools are available to analyze surfaces such as Gaussian and sectional curvature, slope, surface normals, reflection curves, and
draft checking. The surface models can easily be converted into solid geometry for mass property and assembly evaluations.
3. Use top-down design. An unlimited number of Pro/ENGINEER parts and assemblies can be created referencing a single surface model. When this surface model is
changed, all related parts are modified accordingly.
Pro/VERIFY Pro/VERIFY is an optional Pro/ENGINEER module that you can use to classify and quantify flaws generated in manufactured models when they are compared to design
specifications.
Additional Features
-Optional adapters for JT, Unigraphics, CADDS 5, SolidWorks, CATIA, I-DEAS and Microstation
