3. TURBINE CONTROL DESCRIPTION

3.1. SPEED CONTROL
The speed control module serves for governing of the turbine speed in the entire range of speed
control 0-3600 rpm, i.e. during startup, synchronizing, disengagement, speed tests, and transition
states after load rejection. Turbine speed is controlled by opening of IPCV. The HPCV remain closed
until turbine is synchronized.
The module allows:
- Setting the speed set point value
a) Automatically - tracking the real value
b) Manually - entering the required value
c) Automatically - by trend to the warming or synchronizing speed
d) Automatically - tracking external value (synchronizing automat)
e) Automatically - tracking synchronization speed value
- Overspeed test
a) Test of overspeed protection function
b) Test of overspeed protection system WOODWARD ProTech GII
- Recalling the maximum speed
- Evaluation of the overrun state
Speed control is entered in the unsynchronized condition after turbine engage (solenoids of the
stop valves servo drive are powered) when the speed set point is released switching from the actual
speed tracking mode to the manual entry mode and the “SPEED CONTROL” signal light is lit. The
mode of speed set point can be changed by operator or is changing automatically in dependence on
actual mode of operation.
SETTING THE SET POINT SPEED VALUE
a) Automatically – tracking actual speed value.
The set point illuminative button “M/A” for the set up speed value displays “AUT” and
the set point value is in the mode which follows the actual speed value.
This mode is active if the turbine is not engaged (stop valves are not opened).
b) Manually – by entering the required speed value.
The set point illuminative button “M/A” for set up of the speed value displays “MAN”
and the set point value is in the mode of manual entering. The range of entering set points
is limited on 3750 rpm in standard operating condition, only during testing of the overspeed
protection system ProTech GII or the overspeed protective function in TCS the range of
entering set points is automatically stretched up to 3975 rpm.
This mode is active if the turbine is engaged (stop valves are opened), not
synchronized and the automatic mode for speed set point is not chosen.

c) Automatically – by trend up to the testing, warming or synchronizing speed.

- Starting up to testing speed
If the hot reheat steam temperature is higher than limit in Start-up diagram
(Tp111640-S, part of document “CFE-P0M27039-V002-DM-0004“), the temperature of inner
HP part and top outer HP part is higher than 180 °C, the condenser pressure does not exceed
0.5 bar(a) and the entered speed set point is lower than the first testing speed (400 rpm) then
the set point value can be switched into the automatic starting up mode by pressing the set
point illuminative button “M/A” (“AUT” is lit) and this will cause an automatic increase of speed

with a trend (600 rpm ) up to the moment of reaching the testing speed. After reaching the
testing speed the signal light “TESTING SPEED” is lit and the entered speed value set point is
switched back to the manual entry mode and the set point illuminative button “M/A” is lit
“MAN”.
Automatic starting up to the testing speed can be stopped at any time by switching the
speed set point value to the manual entry mode by pressing the,
set point illuminative button “M/A” that will be lit “MAN”. The speed set point value
also switches automatically into the mode of manual entry if the value of the generated speed
set point is higher by more than 200 rpm then the actual turbine speed.
This mode is active if the turbine is engaged (stop valves are opened), not
synchronized, the automatic mode for speed set point is chosen by button or if there is request
from turbostep and conditions above mentioned and in Start-up diagram are fulfilled.
- Starting up first warming speed
If the hot reheat steam temperature is higher than limit in Start-up diagram
(Tp111640-S, part of document “CFE-P0M27039-V002-DM-0004“), the temperature of inner
HP part and top outer HP part is higher than 180 °C, the condenser pressure does not exceed
0.5 bar(a) and the entered speed set point is lower than the first warming speed (1500 rpm)
then the set point value can be switched into the automatic starting up mode by pressing the
set point illuminative button “M/A” (“AUTO” is lit) and this will cause an automatic increase of
2
speed with a trend (600 rpm ) up to the moment of reaching the first warming speed. After
reaching the testing speed the signal light “WARMING SPEED I” is lit and the entered speed
value set point is switched back to the manual entry mode and the set point illuminative button
“M/A” is lit “MAN”.
Automatic starting up to the warming speed can be stopped at any time by switching
the speed set point value to the manual entry mode by pressing the set point illuminative
button “M/A” that will be lit “MAN”. The speed set point value also switches automatically into
the mode of manual entry if the value of the generated speed set point is higher by more than
200 rpm then the actual turbine speed.
This mode is active if the turbine is engaged (stop valves are opened), not
synchronized, the automatic mode for speed set point is chosen by button or if there is request
from turbostep and conditions above mentioned and in Start-up diagram are fulfilled.
- Starting up to second warming speed
If the temperature of the live steam before the turbine is above T min (see Start-up
diagram, Tp111640-S, part of document “CFE-P0M27039-V002-DM-0004“), the condenser
pressure does not exceed 0.2 bar(a), the warming time delay is completed and the entered
speed set point is lower than the warming speed (2800 rpm) then the set point value can be
switched into the automatic starting up mode by pressing the set point illuminative button
“M/A” (“AUTO” is lit) and this will cause an automatic increase of speed with a trend (600
2
rpm ) up to the moment of reaching the second warming speed. After reaching the warming
speed the signal light “WARMING SPEED II” is lit and the entered speed value set point is
switched back to the manual entry mode and the set point illuminative button “M/A” is lit
“MAN”.
This mode is active if the turbine is engaged (stop valves are opened), not
synchronized, the automatic mode for speed set point is chosen by button (turbostep waiting
on eccentricity check) and conditions above mentioned and in Start-up diagram are fulfilled.
- Warming time delay (both warming speeds)

9/52
Empalme I
Control system functions philosophy
Pr6008060

At the beginning of the startup process (during rolling with the turning gear), the
needed time delay at the warming speed is generated according to the calculated mean
integral temperature of the turbine rotor. During warming at the warming speed the signals
light “WARMING TIME DELAY (WARM SPEED) I” or “WARMING TIME DELAY (WARM
SPEED) II” is lit and the analogue value of the time delay is displayed simultaneously (t1 and
t2 in the start-up diagram). The speed set point value is in the mode of manual entry during
the time of the warming delay, the set point illuminative button “M/A” is lit “MAN”.
After the time delay elapses, the signal light “WARMING TIME DELAY
(WARM.SPEED)” disappears.
This mode is activated automatically if the warming speed is reached during the
startup period (Turbine is engaged and not synchronized).
- Starting up to the synchronizing speed
If turbine speed is higher than the second warming speed (2800 rpm) and lower than
the synchronizing speed (3600 rpm), the condenser pressure does not exceed 0.2 bar(a), the
warming time delay is completed, the IP inner casing temperature is higher than 150 °C and
other conditions given by the starting diagram are met then the speed set point value can be
switched into the automatic starting up mode by pressing the set point illuminative button
“M/A” and this causes an automatic increase of speed; the set point illuminative button “M/A”
will lit “AUTO”.
After reaching the synchronizing speed, the signal light “SYNCHRO SPEED” is lit and
the speed set point value will switch into the mode of manual entry, the set point illuminative
button “M/A” will lit “MAN”.
Automatic starting up to the warming or synchronizing speed can be stopped at any
time by switching the speed set point value into the manual entry mode by pressing the set
point illuminative button “M/A” that will lit “MAN”. The speed set point value also switch into the
manual mode automatically if the value of the generated speed set point is higher by more
than 200 rpm then the actual speed of the turbine.
This mode is active if the turbine is engaged, not synchronized, the automatic mode
for speed set point is chosen and conditions in Start-up diagram are fulfilled.
Important!
Under the condition that the above-stated conditions are not fulfilled the further increase of
speed is possible only by using the manual mode of entering the required speed value.
d) Automatically – by externally entered speed set point value (synchronization).
If the synchronizing speed is reached, HP steam temperature is higher than 540 °C
or the difference between the HP steam temperature and the HP case temperature is
90÷160 °C for hot start, 90÷250 °C for warm start or 90÷305 °C for cold start, difference
between the IP steam temperature and the IP case temperature is lower than 140 °C for hot
start, lower than 240 °C for warm start or lower than 295 °C for cold start, it is possible to
select the mode of external entry of set point by pressing the set point illuminative button
“M/A” (enabling of signals +;- from the synchronization set). In this mode the “M/A” is lit
“AUT” and the signal light “SYNCHRONIZATION ENABLED” is lit.
The transition back to the mode of manual entry is performed by repeated pressing
the set point illuminative button “M/A” that will lit “MAN”.
This mode is active if the turbine is engaged, not synchronized, the automatic mode
for speed set point is chosen and above mentioned conditions are fulfilled.
Important!
Under the condition that the above-stated conditions are not fulfilled the synchronization
sequence is not enabled!
e) Automatically – by tracking the synchronizing speed value.
The speed set point value switches into this mode after the synchronizing of the
turbine generator. After the signal “synchronized” get in, the set point value is automatically
10/52
Empalme I
Control system functions philosophy
Pr6008060

switched to the monitoring of the synchronizing speed value, the set point illuminative button
“M/A” will lit “AUT”.
This mode is active if the turbine is engaged and synchronized.
OVERSPEED FUNCTIONAL TESTS
These functions are testing by two independent devices which are protecting turbine against not
allowed overspeed. First device is a part of the speed measurement of the turbine control system. This
device is set to trip the turbine on 3960 rpm. The "TEST TCS" verifies its functioning.
The second device is an over-speed protective system WOODWARD ProTech GII. This system
is set to trip the turbine on 3970 rpm. The "TEST OPS" verifies its functioning.
The manufacturer recommends performing both of the following described tests before
synchronizing the TG. The recommended testing period is in the document “CFE -P0M27039-V002-LT-
0016-TRIPS & ALARMS SETTINGS”.
a) Test TCS
By pressing the “TEST O.P.S.(CS)button the protective function of the TCS and its
module of measurement and evaluation of speed is released. After activation the “TEST
O.P.S.(CS)” button will be lit and the speed set point range will be stretched from 3750 rpm to
3975 rpm. Now it is possible to increase manually the entered speed set point value. After the
intervention of the overspeed protective function of the TCS (turbine trip), the speed set point
value will automatically switch into the mode of monitoring the actual speed (the set point
illuminative button “M/A” will lit “AUT”), the preselection of the test will be cancelled
automatically. The test can also be cancelled untimely by repeated pressing the “TEST
O.P.S.(CS)” button.
By acknowledging the protections and subsequent turbine “engagement” it is possible
to catch the running out turbine at speed (engagement in the zone of critical speed is not
allowed) and at once increase turbine speed up to the required speed value.
This mode should be manually activated if the turbine is engaged (stop valves are
opened), not synchronized and the speed set point is in manual mode.
b) Test OPS
By pressing the “TEST OPS” button the protective function of the overspeed protection
system is released. After activation of the ProTech GII testing mode the “TEST OPS” button will
be lit and the speed set point range will be stretched from 3750 rpm to 3975 rpm and the level
of overspeed trip in the TCS will be increased to 3980 rpm. Now it is possible to increase
manually the entered speed set point value. After the intervention of the OPS WOODWARD
ProTech (turbine trip) the speed set point value will automatically switch into a mode of
monitoring the actual speed (the set point illuminative button “M/A” will lit “AUTO”); the
preselection of the test will be cancelled automatically and the level of overspeed in the TCS will
be decreased back to 3960 rpm. The test can also be cancelled by repeated pressing the
“TEST O.P.S.(P.GII)” button.
After resetting of all channels of the OPS WOODWARD ProTech GII and
acknowledging the protections and subsequent turbine “engagement” it is possible to catch the
running out turbine at speed (engagement in the zone of critical speed is not allowed) and once
increase turbine speed up to the required speed value.
This mode should be manually activated if the turbine is engaged (stop valves are
opened), not synchronized and the speed set point is in manual mode.
RECALLING THE MAXIMUM SPEED
By pressing the “RESET” button the maximum speed reached since the last time the button was
pressed will display on the digital display for three seconds (e.g. the speed reached by the turbine
during an overrun). After the three seconds automatic resetting of the maximum speed memory takes
place and the actual speed is again show. Dots will be lit behind each numeral character or digits will
blink when the maximum speed from the device memory is displayed for recognizing the mode of
recalling the maximum speed.
11/52
Empalme I
Control system functions philosophy
Pr6008060

We recommend performing this operation after every test of overspeed protection, before every
startup, after termination of island operation and after every overrun mode evaluation. (see below the
definition of the overrun state)
This function can be activated only manually.
EVALUATION OF OVERRUN STATE
Overrun is an operation condition when the turbine speed exceeds permitted value 3780 rpm or
the trend of the speed rise exceeds the value 180 rpm/s. Overrun could occur either under the
unsynchronized or synchronized operation of turbine. If an overrun occur then control valves are closed
immediately as a priority and remains closed all the time of overrun. The signal „OVERSPEED“ is lit.
This mode is activated automatically whenever the overrun conditions are recognized.

3.2. LIVE STEAM (HP STEAM) PRESSURE CONTROL

The pressure control module serves for live steam pressure control before the turbine at the
required value by the turbine HPCV position changing.
The module allows:
- Setting up the required value of pressure
a) Manually - entering required value.
b) Automatically - tracking real value.
c) Automatically - sliding pressure.
c)d) Automatically – entering required value from DCS
- - Setting up the required value of pressure trend
a) Manually - entering required pressure trend value.
Control of the live steam pressure before the turbine can be activated in the synchronized state
from the electric power control mode or from the mode of manual control of control valves, if the
measurement of the live steam pressure is without failure, by pressing the illuminative button “PRESS
HP” or automatically by pressure drop under the minimum limit. The “PRESS HP” button will be lit and
the system will switch over to the control mode of the live steam pressure before the turbine; the signal
light “PRESS HP CONTROL” is lit.
The pressure control mode can be switch off manually by cancelling the preselection or
automatically if the control error is out of acceptable limits, by pressure sensor fault, in case of
evacuation of HP part (see chapter EVACUATION OF HP PART), in case of control valve emergency
decreasing or in case of some limiting control activation.
The pressure set point value will automatically switch from the mode of real value tracking into
the automatical entry mode if the pressure control mode is activated.
SETTING THE SET POINT OF THE PRESSURE VALUE
a) Manually – by entering the required pressure value.
The illuminative button “M/A” is lit “MAN” and the set point of pressure value is in the
mode of manual entry.
This mode is active if the turbine is synchronized, the pressure control mode is active
and the automatic mode for the pressure set point is not chosen (sliding pressure mode is not
active).
b) Automatically – by tracking the actual pressure.
The signal light “AUT” is lit and the required pressure value is in the mode of tracking
the real value to assure bumpless transition to pressure control mode.
This mode is active if the pressure control mode is not active.
c) Automatically – sliding pressure.
Pressing the set point illuminative button “M/A” is lit “AUT” the sliding pressure mode is
preselected. If the HP steam is higher than minimum limit 89 bar(g) than the control valve
opening will rise in function of rising HP steam pressure until control valve full open. The HP
steam pressure is free developing. If the HP steam pressure is lower than minimum limit than
the control valve opening will decrease to reach the minimum value of HP pressure steam.
Sliding pressure mode can be disconnected at any time pressing again the set point illuminative
button “M/A” which will be lit “MAN”.
This mode should be activated from manual mode if the turbine is synchronized and the
pressure control mode is active.
The required value of the steam pressure before the turbine is automatically switched to
automatic mode from the actual pressure tracking mode in consecutive to live steam pressure
control mode activation.
13/52
Empalme I

Pr6008060

d) Automatically – by entering the required value of the HP pressure from DCS.

The mode could be activated, if is the HP pressure control:
- the HP pressure > min and the HP pressure control mode is “AUT”.
Activation of external HP pressure control will lit “EX. MODE”.

SETTING THE SET POINT OF THE PRESSURE TREND

a) Manually – by entering the required value of the pressure trend.
This mode is active all the time.
3.3. IP STEAM PRESSURE CONTROL
a) Manually – by entering the required pressure value.
If the IP steam is higher than minimum limit (calculated as per pressure behind HP
control valves) than the control valve opening will rise in function of rising IP steam pressure
until control valve full open. The IP steam pressure is free developing. If the IP steam pressure
is lower than minimum limit than the control valve opening will decrease to reach the minimum
value of IP pressure steam. Sliding pressure mode can be disconnected at any time pressing
again the set point illuminative button “M/A” which will be lit “MAN”.
This mode should be activated from manual mode if the turbine is synchronized and the
pressure control mode is active.
The required value of the steam pressure before the turbine is automatically switched to
automatic mode from the actual pressure tracking mode in consecutive to steam pressure control mode
activation.
3.4. ELECTRIC POWER CONTROL
The module for control of the electrical power serves for control of the electric power at the set
point by using a change of the turbine control valves opening.
The module allows:
- Setting the set point value of the initial load / target load
a) Automatically -generating the value of the initial load.
b) Manually -entering the required value of the initial load.
c) Automatically -by trend to the value of the initial load.
d) Manually -entering the required value of the target load (not recommend)
e) Automatically -tracking real value.
- Setting the set point value of the load trend
a) Automatically -generating the value of the load trend.
14/52
Empalme I
Control system functions philosophy
Pr6008060

b) Manually -entering the required value of the load trend.

c) Automatically -reading fixed value of the load trend.
- Minimal sustained load evaluation
The control of the electric load is entered in the synchronized condition from the speed
control mode at the moment of synchronization or from the live steam pressure control mode or
from the manual control mode of the control valves by pressing the illuminative button “EL.
LOAD”. Always in case that the load measurement is without failure. The “EL. LOAD” button will
be lit and the system switch into the control of the electric load; the signal light “EL. LOAD
CONTROL” will be lit.
The electric load control mode can be switch off manually by cancelling the preselection
or automatically if the control error is out of acceptable limits.
The set point value of the electric load will automatically switch from the mode of real
value tracking into the manual entry mode if the el. load control mode is activated.
SET POINT VALUE OF THE INITIAL LOAD / TARGET LOAD
SET POINT VALUE OF THE INITIAL LOAD
a) Automatically – by generating the value of the initial load.
The recommended value of the initial load (according to the starting diagram) is
automatically generated in the non-synchronized condition on the level of turning speed on the
basis of the calculated IP rotor temperature. The set point illuminative button “M/A” of the initial
load/target load will lit “AUT” and the set point is in the mode of the initial load value generation.
This mode is active if the turbine is In non-synchronized condition.
b) Manually – by entering the required value of the initial load.
Above the level of the turning speed is possible, in the non-synchronized condition,
manually adjust the value of the initial load. The set point illuminative button “M/A” of the initial
load/target load will lit “PWR CONTROL-MAN” and the set point value is in the manual entry
mode of the initial load value.
This mode is active if the turbine is not synchronized and the turbine speed is higher
than 65 rpm.

3.8. THERMAL STRESS CONTROL

Thermal stress evaluation is designed for continuously measurement, evaluation and recording
of thermal stress at critical part of the turbine rotor. It enables maximum utilization of operating flexibility
under the given thermal conditions, avoiding of excessive demands on the life of turbine. It provides
fast, safe and economic run-up of turbine.
Thermal stress evaluation which uses as an input temperature of outer surface of inner case of
turbine. This signal is automatically verified. By means of Fourier differential equations of warm
conductivity is modelling temperature distribution inside the turbine rotor.
The value of mechanical thermal stress is according with the difference between surface and
middle integral temperature of turbine rotor. These both values represent main outputs from the module
of thermal stress evaluation.
Thermal stress monitoring module generates allowed and maximum limits of the thermal stress.
The value of these limits depends on the middle integral temperature.
Overstepping of allowed thermal stress limits has information for operator about illicit
decreasing of residual turbine life and is decreasing of CV opening by actuation of limiting control.
Overstepping of maximum thermal stress limits initiates a closure of the stop valves by means
of turbine protection.

4. GLAND STEAM CONTROL DESCRIPTION

Circuit of gland steam system controls the steam pressure. It connects the front and rear turbine
glands, and insures the steam extraction from the HP glands and the steam feeding of the LP vacuum
glands. The pressure in this circuit is 1.835 bar(a) or 1.02 bar(a) – depends on vent steam temperature
10MAM20CT001. Pressure is measured by measurement 10MAW15CP001.
Two control valves achieve the pressure control:
Control valve 10LBG70A090 -Y01 delivers steam into the circuit during start-up of the TG and during
low load operation from auxiliary steam.
Control valve 10MAW20AA090 -Y01 relieves excess steam, when the quantity of steam extracted
from the HP glands is higher than the quantity of steam fed into the LP vacuum glands. Steam extracted
from the circuit is passed into the Flash tank (during start-up procedure) or into the LP part (during normal
operation).
Required parameters of auxiliary steam for feeding of TG glands is described by curve below.

- Temperature of sealing gland stem before throttling 10LBG70CT002

- Temperature outer case HP top inside surface 10MAA01CT001
- 1., 2., 3. Temperature curve – set point for temperature of auxiliary steam
- 4. Protection closing of valve 10LBG70A090 (-5°C from curve 1-2-3)
Opening of control valve 10LBG70A090 -Y01 is protected against low parameters of steam. In front
of this valve there are temperature (10LBG70CT002) and pressure (10LBG70CP001) measurements (out of
DSPW supply).
Temperature of steam which is fed into LP TG glands is 150 °C. This temperature is achieved by
desuperheater 10MAW10AC001. Spray water injection is controlled by means of control valve
10LCE20AA090 -Y01 on base of temperature measurement 10MAW15CT001.

Intervention of ensured variable is signalized as well as the 1st incoming event (1st cause of
trip). The signal light “TRIP PROTECTIONS - TPS” is also lit.
ACTIVATION OF PROTECTION
The degree of activation create conditions for the action of protection systems in the course
of control process.
- permanent activation
is used for the most part of ensured variables (overspeed, speed measurement failure,
push buttons)
- activation No. 1
is used for lubrication oil, trip oil, thrust bearing wear, differential rotor expansion, thrust
and radial bearing temperature (trip by means of this protection may occurs if the speed is > 0
rpm), activation will be made manually or automatically by turbine speed higher than 0 rpm,
deactivation is carried out manually by button „ACTIVATION I“ at standstill of machine.
- activation No. 2
is used for control oil, vacuum, thermal stress, electric protection, machinery protection,
fire protection, rotor vibration (trip may occurs if the speed is > 100 rpm), activation will be made
manually or automatically if the turbine speed is higher than 100 rpm, deactivation is carried out
manually by button „ACTIVATION II“ only if turbine speed is lower than 100 rpm).
- activation No. 3
activation will be only automatically in case of synchronized state and if the steam inlet
temperature is higher than L1 limit, deactivation is carried out automatically after phased off state.
The signal light „ACTIVATION III“ will be lit.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF PROTECTION INTERVENTION
Pressing the button „PROTEC.ACK.“ take into consideration (acknowledge) all incoming
signals which resulted in turbine trip. After return of ensured variables to normal operating
condition, signalization of particular interventions disappears and turbine may be operated.
TRIP PROCEDURE DESCRIPTION
There are three basic trip procedures:
1) Instantaneous trip
This trip is deployed by activation of any protections mentioned in “CFE-P0M27039-V002-LT-
0016_0_Trips & Alarms settings”. Instantaneous trip cause immediate close of the main stop valves at
STG inlet (HP, IP, LP), send information about trip to generator electrical protection and DCS. STG will
run down to 0 rpm. STG must be re-engaged during run-down and return to nominal speed by manual
speed setting and synchronize by activation of synchronization automat or the turning gear must be
activated to prevent still standing of the STG.
2) Sequential trip
This trip is activated manually by an operator or by a DCS signal “STOP FROM DCS!”. This
procedure will activate (switch to automatic mode) all functional groups which are necessary for safe
STG trip. The procedure of sequential trip is described in chapter 3.9 of this document in part “shut-
down sequence”. The sequence can be any time aborted by operator.
3) Manual trip
This trip can be activated by button on operator screen which activates STG protection and
cause instantaneous trip from procedure 1. STG function will be affected same way as in procedure 1.
Second way of manual trip activation are HW push-buttons located in control room (two buttons)
and directly on TPC cabined (cabinet is located in machine hall in front of STG). Pushing of any of the
push-buttons will cause immediate disconnection of the “protection circuit”, de-energizing of the tripping
solenoids and closing of the STG inlet valves (HP, IP, LP) and in the same time is this information also

processed by TPS (turbine protection system), so the protection are deployed same way as in
procedure 1. Afterward the STG function will be affected same way as in the procedure 1.
PROTECH RESET
Operator takes reset of OPS WOODWARD ProTech by pushing of button „RESET“ in
ProTech GII frame. It is automatic sequence of resetting individual channels (channel by channel),
after intervention or failure.
ENGAGEMENT
Turbine “engagement” means the activation of electromagnets of trip oil and stop valves
opening. It is carried out by button „ENGAGE!“. Intervention of protection cannot be active to make
engagement. Successful engagement unlock IPCV to operation (speed control mode is activated).
Important!
Is not recommended to engage if the critical speed is reached or if service mode is active!
DIAGNOSTIC TESTS
Following technological diagnostic tests are available:
- Protection System Channel Test
Throw this diagnostic tests is ensured the possibility to test the functionality of each
protection system channel. Test start is done by pressing the “ON/FF” button. Energizing of
relevant solenoid evokes loss of trip oil pressure on the 2oo3 hydraulic voting unit. When the drop
of trip oil is evaluated the diagnostic solenoid is de-energized and the trip oil pressure will be
restored. Loss of one channel trip oil pressure has no influence on steam turbine operation. If two
test will start simultaneously the turbine trip will occur.
Important!
Test of two channels in the same time causes the turbine trip!
- Stop Valve Mobility Test (10% stroke)
Throw this diagnostic test is ensured the possibility to test the mobility of each stop valve.
Test start is done by pressing the correspondent “ON/FF” button. Energizing of solenoid evokes
slow closing of the appropriate stop valve by means of slow drainage of control oil. When the open
position of the stop valve is loss the diagnostic solenoid is de-energized and the stop valve will
open again. This small closing has no influence on steam turbine operation.
- Stop Valves/Flap Mobility Test (100% stroke)
Throw this diagnostic test is ensured the possibility to test the mobility of each stop valve.
Test start is done by pressing the correspondent “ON/FF” button. Energizing of solenoid evokes
quick closing of all stop valves and flaps by fast drainage of control oil. When the close position of
the stop valves and flap is reached the control valves and flap is closed, than the diagnostic
solenoid is de-energized and the stop valve will open again. After that the control valves are
opened (as per set point from controller). This test could be carried out when electrical load is
between 65 MW and 140 MW.

9. VENT STEAM CONDENSER

The vent steam sections of the TG glands are in the outer-facing sections. The pressure in the
vent steam circuit is slightly under atmospheric pressure (approximately 0.98 bar(a)). This means that
steam and some amount of air are extracted from the last gland section. This design insures that no
steam escapes into the atmosphere. The vacuum pressure in this system is provided by the vent steam
condenser (VSC) 10MAM10AC001. Steam that enters the VSC is condensed, and the non-
condensable gas (air) is blown out by a motor driven fan 10MAM50AN001 or 1MAM60AN001
(2x100%).
Condensate from VSC is routed to Flash tank through steam trap 10MAM30AT001.
There is an emergency overflow of VSC which protects TG unit against water in case of VSC
failure.
In case of VSC failure the bypass of vent steam is activated (10MAM25BR110).
Functional group Vent Steam Condenser ensures control of all VSC elements to lead away
a vent steam from glands during all modes of operation.
Functional group Vent Steam Condenser includes:
- Open Loop Valves Control
- Motors Control
The subroutine of functional group can be switch on manually by operator if all elements of the

11. DRAINAGES DESCRIPTION

During cold start-up of TG unit it is necessary to preheat cold steel parts of turbine and its
accessories. Because of steam condensation enormous quantity of condensate in steam system
appears. This condensate in steam system has a potential to cause serious damage of turbine,
equipment and steam valves. That is why the condensate is being removed to Flash Tank via drain
headers.
Individual drain lines (mostly DN25) are connected with HP and LP drain headers. Condensate
from these draining headers flows into the Flash Tank where condensate evaporates.
All drains are equipped with steam traps (except nozzle adaptor) which ensure automatic
draining of the system. The steam traps are open automatically if condensate needs to be removed and
close if there is only steam present.
First startup and startup after long-term shut-down (planned repair, overhaul):
In each drain there is a bypass line of steam trap with pneumatically actuated globe
valves which is closed during normal operation of TG and opened during cold start-up of TG. All
bypass lines cannot be opened at once. That is why actuated valves are grouped into a few
functional groups. Valves in each group will be opened at once during automatic start-up
procedure.
Cold start:
For the sake of safe condensate trapping during a cold start, it is necessary to open the
shut-off valve in the condenser trap by-pass. Open the control valve in the condensate trap to
cca 10% (in order to prevent excessive loss of steam).
Handling of the shut-off valves in the condenser trap by-pass is performed according to
their classification into one of the mass-controlled drainage groups.
During subsequent normal operation, draining is performed via the condensate trap.
Warm start:
During a warm and hot start, draining is realized via the condensate trap.
Functional group Drainages ensure control of all elements of draining during start-up
procedure.

Functional group Drainages includes:

12. WARMING DESCRIPTION

Purpose of preheating lines is to minimize the stress of steel parts which is caused by
temperature changes. All conditions for start-up of TG are described in detail in separate document
(Start-up diagram, “CFE-P0M27039-V002-DM-0004“).
Pipeline between boiler and turbine will be preheated by heat of condensation at the first stage
of preheating. Allowable ramp of Valves chamber preheating is 4°C/min for HP valves and 7°C/min for
IP valves.
Pipeline 10MAA41BR010 and 10MAA42BR010 is used for preheating of HP stop valve
