Dayton Man Found Guilty in Homicide of Middletown Woman
State v. Brandon Carr, 2016‐CR‐0745/2
DAYTON, OH (02/6/2018) – Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. announced today that BRANDON
CHARLES CARR, 36, of Dayton, has been found guilty as charged for the kidnapping and
shooting death of Brittany Russell, whose deceased body was found on February 10, 2016.
On Wednesday, February 10, 2016 the deceased body of 29 year old Brittany Russell, of
Middletown, was found inside her car in an apartment parking lot on Free Pike in Dayton. She
had been fatally shot. Her 6‐month‐old infant daughter, who was alive, was also inside the
vehicle, which was running.
On April 11, 2017, the Montgomery County Grand Jury indicted the defendant on:
One count Aggravated Murder
Three counts Murder
Two counts Kidnapping
Two counts Felonious Assault
Two counts Tampering With Evidence
One count Having Weapons While Under Disability (prior drug conviction)
One count of Possession of Heroin
One count Endangering Children
Today, after a week‐long trial, the jury returned a verdict of guilty as charged on all counts,
except for the counts of Having Weapons While Under Disability, which will be heard at a bench
trial. The defendant will be sentenced on February 21, 2018 at 9:45 a.m.
A co‐defendant, Curtis Burdette, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, kidnapping, and
tampering with evidence in connection with his actions in the incident. He will be sentenced at
a later date.
