Spring  2018

Dear  Teacher,  Administrator,  or  Program  Staff  Personnel,

The  student  who  brings  this  letter  to  you  is  enrolled  in  the  course  EDUC  100A/B,
Educating  Students  with  Disabilities  in  Inclusive  Settings.   Please  consider  providing  an
opportunity  for  our  student  to  observe  and  interact  with  students  with  disabilities  in
your  classroom,  program,  or  agency.

EDUC  100  A/B  is  a  required  course  for  all  teacher  candidates.  It  provides  the
candidate  with  an  introduction  to  students  with  a  wide  range  of  disabilities.   The
course  focuses  on  the  physical,  cognitive,  and  social  characteristics  of  students
with  disabilities.    A  major  part  of  our  program  is  the  linkage  between  coursework
and  the  fieldwork  component.

Your  willingness  to  provide  an  opportunity  for  our  students  to  visit  and  to  observe  in
your  program  is  critical  to  their  professional  development.   As  we  continue  our  work  in
training  pre-‐service  educators  to  meet  the  many  needs  of  students  with  disabilities,  it  is
important  for  them  to  have  early  and  continuous  field  experiences.

The  student  is  required  to  observe  and/or  interact  with  student(s)  who  have
an  IEP(s)  in  classroom  settings.  Some  students  will  also  elect  to  observe  in  a
recreational  and/or  therapeutic  setting.    All  information  is  confidential.

Each  student  is  required  to  document  the  dates  and  hours  of  observation.  At  the
completion  of  their  hours  the  student  will  send  you  an  email  verifying  the  dates,
hours,  and  disability  of  the  students  observed.

Your   participation   is   essential   to   our   program   and   your   cooperation   is   greatly
appreciated.  Should   you   have   any   questions   or   concerns   regarding   the  observations
to  be  completed  in  your  school  or  program,  please  contact  me,  or  the  student’s  EDUC
100B  instructor,  Dr.  Lourd  Bawardi  Shomar  (bawardishomar@csus.edu).

Cordially,

Dr.  Paula  M.  Gardner
