I have chosen the company Butwal Power Company (BPC) which stands today with 50 years of

experience in the hydropower sector and has placed itself as one of the leading company in
Nepal. BPC is engaged in development, operation and maintenance of hydro-power plants,
engineering and design consultancy of hydropower and infrastructure projects, manufacturing
and repair of hydro-mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment for power plants through its
subsidiary companies.
In order to become the industry leader and achieve operational excellence, BPC has embraced
the following Strategic Goals and business models:
Continuous focus on a strong financial performance in terms of reasonable return on investment
through maximizing the use of financial capabilities
Expand the businesses mainly through the development and acquisition of power generation
facilities
Develop and strengthen workforce competency
Efficient and optimum use of environmental resources
Exercise the highest standards of ethics and conduct in our personal and business
relations
While analyzing the latest annual report of BPC, the business model of the company is working
effectively. The Company made significant progress in the FY 2072/73 and the net profit has
increased by NPR 96.1 million, which is20% higher than the previous year. Two projects that is
30 MW Nyadi Hydropower Project and 37.6 MW Kabeli Hydroelectricity Project have reached
at the advance stage to start the construction works. It also expands the business by owning and
operating 12 MW Jhimruk Power Plant and 9.4 MW Andhikhola Power Plant. Both plants
operated satisfactorily. Not only in financial position, the optimization of human resources base
of the Company has been taken as the continue process.

BPC is also committed for the good corporate governance. They keep the trust of stakeholders by
being ethical, honest and transparent in the continuing pursuit of vision, mission and values. BPC
is also certified with ISO 9001:2008 (Quality); ISO 14001:2004 (Environment) and ISO
18001:2007 (Occupational Health, Safety and Security management system, OHSAS)
management systems. OHSAS system created awareness and assisted in managing occupational
health, safety and security issues throughout the organization. This shows that BPC is effectively
working on their business model.
Yes, they will be successful to increase the profit and revenue in current scenario such as
growing use of IT, change in society and culture, political and economic conditions. The overall
business environment and investment climate in hydropower sector is expected to improve in the
coming years. The government has made an ambitious plan of implementing 10,000 MW in 10
years. In order to realize this plan, the government through all its concerned ministries and
departments are streamlining the acts, regulations and guidelines to a favorable environment for
the hydropower development. BPC has been supplying reliable electricity to its retail customers
in Palpa, Syangja, Pyuthan and Arghakhanchi districts as well as the national grid which
provides them an opportunity to cover market. This steps followed by the company will surely
make them successful to increase the profit and revenue.
