II. COURSE DESCRIPTIVE TITLE: Introduction to Environmental Engineering
III. COURSE PREREQUISITE: None
IV. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a 3 – unit course that deals with the basic and scientific fundamentals of environmental engineering.
It includes the following: (a) basic ecological principles, (b) pollution environments, (c) water, air and solid
waste treatment processes, disposal and management, (d) government legislation, rules and regulations
related to environment and waste management, and (e) environmental management system.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the course, the students must be able to :
1) Have a clear perspective of the different environmental problems and issues which are considered
threat to humanity and its environment today and in the future.
2) Know the existing laws, rules and regulation of the government on environmental issues.
3) Know how domestic activities affect and may destroy ecosystems and human himself.
4) Characterize the different kinds of wastes and their sources.
5) Understand and apply the management and control of these different types of wastes.
6) Have a clear comprehension of the different treatment methods as well as the preventive measures in
solving environmental problems in general.
7) Understand the importance of waste management and its relevance to the engineering profession.
8) Apply acquired principles in the management and treatment of practical pollution problems as they are
encountered in their daily lives.
