planning and production What genres/formats have you chosen The genre of my music video is Indie. I have and why? chosen the indie genre for my whole course because making and indie music video is easier to make because indie music videos are not about huge productions so it will be an easier thing to make. Indie music can relate to everyone as well and can be enjoyed by all age groups. Because of my goal on this unit I thought it would be the best option to make an indie music video. The low production allows me to focus on the natural visuals and a story and from what I have found out from my research that is what people would want to see. How much work did you complete outside Outside of lessons I didn’t complete a lot of of the lessons? work because I did need help and needed someone there to keep me on track. I think I work better in class because at home I have too many distractions and at college I have more supplies and I have help if I do need it. What issues did you encounter whilst Whilst planning I had an idea where I would planning and how did you overcome need to be in college to film and have one them? of the actors to come into college for me even though she doesn’t come here. It was cutting close to the deadline and I noticed it was very unrealistic that I would be able to do this idea and have a production by the deadline. To overcome this I came up with a much more realistic idea and only had to film in my town with one actor. How did you find the filming and editing I really enjoyed the filming and editing. I was process? only able to film and edit half of my production because the actor’s schedule was a bit busy but I was able to get quite a lot filmed in one day. I got all the right shots. To improve my filming I think I need to get across that he is homeless a bit better. I should add some shots of him begging for change because that would be clear that he is homeless. I think once I get my whole music video finished it will be a lot clearer of what I am trying to get across. The editing went better than I expected. I like the way I edited the production but I want to add a few more visuals to make it more interesting. I think that maybe some overlays and some better lighting. When I go film the rest of it I will need some good lighting because it will be at night. I have now finished filming my music video. This time around I made sure I had a lot more shots than I needed just in case I have messed up in my script. I was going to so many places to check if the lighting was good enough and sometimes I made sure it was a dark area because that’s what I wanted for that shot. I didn’t have to worry about sound or anything because I was taking out all the sound from all the clips and having them run over the music. I think I should have spent more time on the shots I was taking because some of them aren’t that great and some aren’t focused too well. I think it was because the deadline is coming close and I wanted to get it all ready to edit for the next day. Do you believe you met the requirements I have mixed opinions on if I met the target of your target audience? How audience or not. I believe that my storyline and the link to the song is good because there isn’t anything explicit so the younger and older years can enjoy it. The only problem I have with it is that there isn’t anything specific that appeals to the age group but I did go off of the fact that everyone would prefer a narrative. What was the feedback you received from peers – do they believe you met the requirements for your target audience?
You need responses from
1. Peers (10-18) 2. Adam / Sarah or Chris (30-40) 3. James (50-60)
FI sent out a survey to get some feedback on
my music video. The first question was a star rating and I was able to get a 3 and three quarters out of 5. 75% said I met the target audience while the rest said I didn’t. The reason that they said I didn’t meet the needs of my target audience was because it appealed to the younger age groups than it did to the older age groups. They did like the editing and the cinematography which I was pleased about but then on the last question I asked what I could improve and they said to add some colour correction and more effects to make it pop. I asked if there anything inappropriate about the music video and someone did say there was drugs but there was no drugs in the music video and I made sure not to add anything like that as that wouldn’t appeal to everyone. The rest said it was appropriate though. Were you able to show your production to We had a viewing of my production and I the intended target audience (peers and uploaded it to YouTube because that is the teachers aside) best platform to post a music video so everyone can see it. What did they have to say about your production? How do you feel your product compares to On a production level I don’t think my music existing professional products that reach all video reaches the quality that they are at. targeted audiences? That is because they have better quality camera’s most of the time. I think that I need to look into what they have done in their productions and watch carefully at what they have added. I feel like it was hard with the song and narrative I chose to make it appeal to everyone because there isn’t anything specific that would appeal to everyone. I need to look back at my research and think if I can implement anything from that into my music video.
With my finished production I still feel it
needs to more stuff added to it like some nice effects and transitions. I need to learn how to do these sort of things and will look up videos for my final major project. My shots are a bit unprofessional and I need to take my time on these shots making sure it is the best I can get and focused in all shots unless it is done on purpose. The deadline was coming short so I was rushing my work so next time I will have to leave a lot of time for filming and plan better. What area are you looking to improve on Next time I will defiantly need to improve my in your next production? planning because it made making my production way harder. I will make sure my planning is all done and have dates set for when I’m filming also tell the actors in advance when I will be needing them to film so that can free up that day to help me. The planning would have affected my filming in a good way because I would be more prepared and then the music video would turn out better. My filming could be a bit better so next time I will spend time thinking of different shots and then it’ll look more professional. One of the problems I had with my production was I feel I didn’t get across that the character in the production was supposed to be homeless so next time I will have to make sure all the shots I’m doing gets my point across and has the narrative make sense.
