MOOT COURT SOCIETY
(September- October 2016)

Demo Moot – Orientation Programme of MCS


A demo moot was organized by the existing MCS members from 2nd and 3rd year under the
guidance of Teacher Convener and Members. Freshers were introduced to the concept of mooting,
the MCS and the avenues for induction in the society. The demo moot started after the Orientation
Programme for Freshers at CLC completed, at 2.00 PM and extended till 5.00 PM with students
seeking clarification of doubts regarding the various aspects of mooting. Along with a demo which
was presented by 3rd year students as speakers and an alumnus as Judge, students were informed
about researching using online Database and books available. Memo Drafting skills and Court
Demeanour along with presentation of oral arguments was also explained in depth.

Common Induction Moot (CIM)


CIM was organized on Saturday, 24th September 2016
and saw a participation of 120 students. The event
started at 2.00 PM and extended up till 9.30 PM.

The problem was based on criminal law, with special


focus on procedural aspects and admissibility of the
evidences. The competition was judged by bench of two
judges comprising of esteemed CLC alumni.

Students were divided in groups of 17-18 students per court room with 7 courtrooms as such in all.
The competition saw cut throat competition, with 50 students making into the society. The criteria
of selection were improved, facilitating more students to participate.

Freshers’ Induction Moot


The fresh batch of students gets their second chance to enter the MCS through the Fresher’s
Induction Moot, which was held on October 1, 2016. Learning from
the CIM experience, a special request was made to organize the event
in morning and the same was accepted. The event began sharp at
11.00 AM and went up till 8.00 PM.

This moot was exclusively for the first year students. This year’s moot
problem was based on law of torts with special focus on Medical Negligence. The FIM was judged
by a two judge bench comprising of esteemed alumni of CLC.

Students were divided in groups of 15-16 students per court room with 4 courtrooms as such in all.
26 students were selected from 66 students. The same criteria of selection as of CIM were applied
here.
