EDUCATION
M.S. Information Security, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, GA (Aug '09 - Dec '10)
Current GPA 3.37/4.0

B.E. Computer Science and Engineering, Bangalore Institute of Technology, Bangalore, India
Percentage 67.23% (Sep '03 - Jun '07)

ACADEMIC PROJECTS
• Implementation of PE analysis and feature extraction in PE Miner: PE Miner is a framework
that uses structural information in portable executables to detect zero-day malware. Implemented
the analysis of the structure of PE files and the extraction of its features. Technologies: Python
(Mar '10 – May '10)

• GT FTP Monitor: Used the ptrace system library to implement a monitor for FTP processes in
Linux to enforce Role Based Access Control and allows only particular groups of users to access
to particular files. Technologies: C (Mar '10 – May '10)

• Implementation of a case-based password-hardening scheme: Developed an authentication

scheme that took into account, not only the password provided by the user but also the case in
which he enters it. The system “learns” from the user’s input initially, and then decides to allow or
disallow the user in the subsequent logins. Technologies: Java (Feb ’10)

• Buzz-a-ride: Designed, implemented and deployed an adhoc carpooling system on the iPhone
and soon will be on Android platforms. It allows users to avail this service by registering with the
system as a driver or a passenger. The user posts requests either to offer or to ask for a ride and
a routing algorithm will efficiently map the overlapping routes and determines the best match
between the users. Transactions occur through an integrated micropayment component.
Technologies: PHP, Titanium SDK, Apache
(Jan ’10 – May '10)

• Location based event notification with collaborative filtering on mobile devices: Designed
and implemented a system that provides event notifications on the user’s phone, along with
information on other relevant events based on the preferences of similar users. Technologies:
Android SDK, JSON, Apache, PHP (Jan ’10 – May '10)

• A provable security analysis of an encryption scheme that supported range queries on a

database: Researched an encryption scheme and proved it to be insecure under the IND-CPA
definition of security. Suggested modifications that would render the scheme secure under the
model. (Aug ’09 – Dec ’09)

• Wireless Road Traffic Viewer: Designed, implemented and tested a navigation tool that
displayed information on a user’s cellular device that calculated the shortest path, along with
alternatives, between a given source and destination. It also displayed live streaming video of the
street traffic onto the user’s cell phone from any given point on the map. Technologies:
Java/J2EE, J2ME, Apache (Jan ’07 – Jun ’07)

ACHIEVEMENTS
• Won first place in the SIP and Web 2.0 Converged Applications category (sponsored by AT&T) at
the Georgia Tech Convergence Innovation Competition 2010.
• In the process of applying for a software patent on a route-matching algorithm used in one of our
projects.

COMPUTER SKILLS
Languages: C/C++, Java/J2EE, PHP, HTML/CSS, Javascript
Operating Systems: Windows, UNIX, Android
